On Monday, 13 May, the U13 Football team competed in the regional qualification round of the Independent Schools Football Association competition, aiming for a place in the National Finals. This is the first time NHEHS has entered this event, and the team delivered outstanding performances throughout the day.

Entering the final group game, the team knew a win would place them at the top of the group and guarantee a spot in the semi-finals They faced the reigning National Champions, Surbiton After initially going down 1-0, Lana G scored a well-taken goal to level the match at 1-1 In the dying minutes, as the team pushed for a winner, Surbiton broke away and scored, making the final result a 2-1 defeat
The girls finished the group as runners-up, narrowly missing out on a spot in the semi-finals Despite the close finish, the team’s performance was impressive, and they look forward to returning next year

Sports Awards 2024celebrating success!
On Friday 3rd May we celebrated our annual NHEHS Sports Awards with a record attendance of over 160 students from Year 7 up to Year 13!
The event kicked off with short speeches by Mr Bennett, Director of Sport and Anna W, Games Captain Mr Bennett spoke about challenges in both sport and life in general, citing basketball legend Michael Jordan as a great example He also talked about measuring different levels of success – what is considered a success by one person is often not the same for everyone His message was echoed in a fun video of all the PE staff and coaches where they all tried to score a netball goal from the edge of the D, showing how success is not always guaranteed but it is fun to give new things a try, even if they are outside of our normal comfort zones! At her last Sports Awards Games Captain Anna then shared why she loves sport and how she has enjoyed sport at school
As our special guest, we were delighted to welcome Giselle Mather, England Rugby World Cup Winner in 1994 and current Director of Rugby for Trailfinders’ Women Giselle also spoke about success Her key message was how little everyday habits can help build the foundation for a successful outcome She likened it to having several pots which you ‘fill’ regularly with your time – for example, skills, resources, opportunities – and then you can pour back all of these into your ‘ you ’ bucket which will overflow with your consistent hard work Her analogy applies both in life and sport and will support you over setbacks and challenges There followed a great Q&A where we learned how Giselle took the disappointment of being left on the bench for the 1990 World Cup Final, approaching it as a learning experience, trying to soak up as much as she could from the best in the world from the sidelines, so that when her moment came, she was able to grasp it with full confidence and backing from the rest of her team
We then enjoyed a lovely barbeque before the awards were presented, for performances in the last two terms (2023-24) for the winter sports and for the summer term of 2023 for athletics, cricket and tennis The Team of the Year was awarded to the 2023 U13 Waterpolo team whose final took place in the summer of 2023 This year saw the introduction of a new ‘Intermediate’ category, meaning there were awards for three separate age groups – Juniors (Years 7-8), Intermediate (Years 9-10) and Senior (Years 11-13)
Thanks to all who donated prizes, there was a fantastic lucky prize draw for all who had been shortlisted for the awards And new for 2024, was the addition of the 360 photo/video booth which proved very popular!

Whilst I and some others were waiting for our events, a strong gust of wind lifted our tent and moved it several paces with us still under it which meant that we had to put sticks in the legs and secure them to the ground to stop it doing that again When it was time, my friend and I went over to hammer throw, when we realised that it would just be us, in inter girls, that would be doing it This meant that it would be a competition between us which made it more enjoyable as we would still be coming 1st and 2nd for hammer whatever we threw!
After the lunch break, the sun was shining, and our team started to warm up for whatever races we had next Whoever ran, the whole team was cheering them on from wherever they

Written by Giuliana R
On 14th June, the NHEHS U15 cricket team was selected to play in the GDST hardball qualifiers, against three teams: Putney High, Wimbledon High School and South Hampstead High
To start the tournament we played Wimbledon High School, which we started off bowling in We bowled 4 wickets and took 3 great catches, one from Giuliana, Hannah and Kitty This gave us a reasonable amount of runs to get in order to win, being around 75 runs In the end, we managed to win this game, due to a great batting performance from mainly Lana and Nishka Our next game was against Putney High School, where we batted first However, we unfortunately lost with only one over left Finally, to end the tournament we played South Hampstead High We started off bowling, and from this, South Hampstead gave an incredibly strong batting performance, having a run rate of 14 runs an over and scoring a total of 135 runs Despite this very high run rate, our team managed an amazing batting performance, with Giuliana getting 31 runs in 14 balls Overall, our team sadly lost, but however, we managed to score around 126 runs so we were incredibly close The U15 cricket team put in a great effort losing two games with a very small difference of runs, and got third out of the four teams
U13 Hardball cricket success!
Written by Lana G
It has been a very busy last half term for the U13A cricket team, playing in the Middlesex Schools Hardball Cup We started off the tournament with a win against Ealing Fields school The team won the toss and elected to bat first knowing the strong attack of the Ealing Fields players Despite this the team managed to put on a total of 148 after 20 overs and went into the second innings, knowing they had put on a good total for them to chase After a strong first few overs from the opening bowlers and a few crucial early wickets, the pressure was on for Ealing Fields, and eventually we managed to bowl them out for 40
Into the semi-finals, we were up against a strong Latymer Upper team We batted first again, and with a great start in the first 10 overs, going at over 10 an over, the team put on a total of 117. Knowing that Latymer had a very chasable target, our bowlers went in knowing a few early wickets would be vital if we were to win Keeping their runs low was the main goal, which we achieved and with the pressure back on them, we had momentum We eventually bowled them out for 40 as well
The final was against LEH NHEHS won the toss and chose to bat first, with a great 118 run partnership by Romilly and Nishka NHEHS scored 156-1 and then went on to have great success in bowing, getting LEH all out for 106, being crowned Middlesex champs!

Hottest day of the yearSports Day!
The sun was out in force on Wednesday 26th June for our annual NHEHS Sports Day at Perivale Track!
The track was a colourful display of red, yellow, green, and blue as students from Years 7-10 and Year 12 donned the House colours of Hepburn, Eliot, Nightingale and Sharman With a variety of track and field events for each year group, year group relays, and the fiercely contested staff vs Year 12 relays and tug-of-wars, there were ample opportunities to embrace the house spirit as athletes vied for the House Sports Cup! This year also saw some fun old-style PE games including circular skipping and three-legged races to mark our 150th anniversary!
Despite it being the hottest day of the year (so far), it was phenomenal to see 10 school records being broken across the year groups, and many other athletes got Personal Bests in their event(s)!
In Year 7, Alice W-B broke the 800m while over in the field Isla K smashed the long jump and Emma C the discus records
In Year 8, Cosima LD jumped amazingly to raise the Year 8 high jump record to 147m while Sofia B broke the 300m record on the track Sofia B also jumped an incredible 459m for a whole school record in the long jump
In Year 9 Lilly B threw wonderfully to beat the Year 9 javelin record.
In Year 10 Minna W took the hurdles record before claiming a whole school record in the high jump with an amazing 160m
In Year 12 Eadi S-J scooped the Year 12 record in the 800m
As ever, there was a very competitive tug of war between Year 12 and the staff, with the Sixth Formers taking an easy win (again!) However, it was a different story in the final event of the day with the 4 x 100m relay, with the staff team just defeating the Year 12's in the last 10 metres, with a great team effort!
The results for the Jessica Ennis-Hill Cup:
