They provide transitional housing for women looking to Once and for All. make positive changes for themselves and their families that will last a lifetime. Guided by their “Six Pillars” (employment, finances, emotional health & well-being, child development, partnerships and mentorships), the professional staff at Hannah’s Hope work with each mother and family to set goals, work to a plan and ultimately, establish a new life of independence. Data shows that women with children become homeless for several reasons. Studies indicate most homeless mothers suffer from trauma or other mental health issues that can be contained. To move from a position of homelessness to independence takes time and hard work. And ...true grit! Further, studies show that having the time to develop the life skills to combat recidivism is a big part of success. Simply, behaviors do not change overnight. Hannah’s Hope Ministries is a life-changing model that gives moms and children the time, the resources, and the strength to succeed!
About Hannah’s Hope Ministries
Located on Upland Avenue, Reading, PA we provide a beautiful setting for women who are looking to make changes for a lifetime. We o er each family a private suite, including their own bedrooms and a bath. Our large, open-concept gathering area has a living room and dining area, where families congregate for weeknight family dining, and opportunities for week-night programming for adults. This concept of living in community helps families build relationships and trust among one another, find friendships and share resources. Our professional sta , interact continually with our clients, guiding them through our comprehensive programming. We look at each family holistically and work personally with both moms and children. Each family is treated with respect and love, while expectations are high, we understand each family comes to us from di ering backgrounds, levels of education, and family dynamics. What We Do! Families are invited to enter our program for 12 – 18 months, allowing them the time needed to gain the skills and access the resources from both Hannah’s Hope and our many community partners to start their new journey to independent, confident living.
“Tools for Real Change” Guided by our “Six Pillars”:
Employment Every mother must seek employment or be working an educational tract to gain employment. Often both happen simultaneously.
Finances Every mother must be involved in literacy training, with the goal of creating a family budget.
Emotional Heath & Wellbeing All mothers will attend weekly meetings with her Case Manager and will be assigned (with sta assistance) to a professional counselor of the mom’s choosing. Will also be required to attend all programming directed at Life Skills, Stress Management, Bible Studies, and other Life Enriching opportunities. Child Development All children will have opportunity to be engages in children’s programming at HHM. We o er Pediatric Occupational Therapy (volunteers from Alvernia University), Student Assistant Programming, (former certified volunteer), interactive story time, camping experiences, bible story time and more Partnerships All residents will have access to partnerships made available through our relationships with Penn State Berks, Alvernia University, local hospitals, churches and more. Mentorships Many moms grow up in environments that do not represent positive, healthy role modeling. We connect our moms with Hope Partners that become both mentors and friends. These relationships reinforce the mission of HHM and build opportunities for moms to find friends for life!
How We Do It!
We work with a goal-oriented model for each mother and family. Starting with immediate, short term and long-term goals, each client has an individualized program that she and her case manager work through. Weekly one on one meetings help moms stay on their course. The goals are set by our moms, while sta will help guide them to meet these goals. This “one on one” approach is key to the success for every mother as she is gaining independence for her family. Every client agrees to the following protocol: Setting life changing goals and working a customized plan to succeed. Attend Weeknight programming, such as budgeting, life skills, parenting, bible study, nutrition, conflict resolution, other programs as o ered. Mothers must be employed or be in an approved educational program. Weekly meeting with a Case Manager is required. Each mom is required to be in therapy with the therapist of her choice.
