Barrer and White Orthodontists Celebrate their 50th Anniversary!

Inspired by his father, Dr. Harry Barrer, who incorporated Barrer & White in 1952, Dr. James Barrer followed in the footsteps of his dad and chose to continue the family legacy of serving the community through orthodontics.

Dr. Harry was joined by Dr. Warne White, Dr. Doug’s father, in 1969, and the two sons have partnered in that same optimal West Reading location chosen by Dr. Harry so many years ago.

Why orthodontics? Dr. Barrer says, “It’s so satisfying to see the smiles on happy patients at the conclusion of their treatment,” adding that orthodontics can play an important role in people’s appearance. He explains that a healthy and properly functioning occlusion positively affects the self-worth felt by both children and adults.

Dr. Barrer believes the success and longevity experienced by Barrer & White is because patients at the practice are treated like family, with every effort made by the staff to make orthodontics a pleasant and rewarding experience. In turn, patients reward Dr. Barrer and Dr. White by referring friends and family to the practice.

When asked for his best advice for other businesses looking to succeed, Dr. Barrer confirms the belief that businesses should do good work for a reasonable fee and treat people the way they would want to be treated.

Why West Reading? “It’s a great place to raise a family. Good schools, good medical and dental care, and just overall a safe, friendly place to live,” Dr. Barrer said.

If you could choose another Avenues business where you could work for a day, what would you choose and why? “Any of the restaurants with a bar. Always thought it would be fun to be a bartender and get to share stories with all the patrons at the bar.”
