TOGETHER WE MOVE FORWARD
As the year is coming to an end, I reflect on all our accomplishments, the communities we serve and YOU — our family of members. It is your generosity and gifts that keep us moving forward together, creating television Granite Staters and our neighbors want and need to see. I think of our most recent collaboration with New Hampshire Public Radio and the New Hampshire Bulletin to air the candidate debates as an example of our dedication to ensure our viewers have a trusted local source for this important information.
Our communities and neighbors are what keep us moving forward, and it is important for us to offer relevant and engaging television. One way we do this is by celebrating the town of Nottingham on the latest episode of OUR HOMETOWN. Host Rebecca Rule explored this tucked-away community, located in Rockingham County and discovered some unique stories, including the town’s local gathering spot, a volunteer-run food pantry and four Revolutionary War generals. As I write this our production crew is out recording interviews with folks from Nashua — our next stop in the OUR HOMETOWN series.
Last fall, Binnie Media generously donated their state-of-the-art production set to NHPBS. This incredible set displays an unlimited combination of graphics backgrounds on twenty-seven monitors and will allow us to host, create and keep moving foward by sharing more local programs. We are particularly excited to see how our studio team will reconfigure the look of GRANITE STATE CHALLENGE to incorporate this new set.
Your continued support has also kept Willem Lange and the WINDOWS TO THE WILD crew on the trail for season 18! The new season will have us exploring wilderness trails that are accessible to everyone, sailing along the Maine coast on the schooner American Eagle and hiking with Mellissa Elam, who is conquering the 4,000 footers with her cat, Floki.
Passport members, we’ll be giving you a sneak peek at the new season of WINDOWS TO THE WILD this February and March!
Our educational team continues to celebrate storytelling with entries from budding young authors all over the United States with our 27th annual NHPBS KIDS WRITERS CONTEST. NH K-12 students cast their votes in our special MOCK ELECTION. Meanwhile, our new community and education engagement coordinator, Jasmine Torres Allen, is checking in with groups and local leaders to learn about their interests and find creative ways NHPBS can better serve community concerns.
Thanks to your generosity and commitment to our future, we were able to host in-person events to show off the capabilities of our new studio, and had a royally good time with our BritWit Club members at the Silver Fountain Inn. We continued to offer online NHPBS INSIDER SERIES events with ANTIQUES ROADSHOW executive producer Marsha Bemko and with SENIORITY AUTHORITY’S Cathleen Toomey who shared with us some of the best ways to enjoy a long, happy and healthy life. And you can watch all of these events online at nhpbs.org/events, along with other co-productions with The New Hampshire Institute for Civics Education and PBS Books and the Library of Congress.
Moving forward also means ensuring sustainability for our future, and we are grateful for your unwavering support and steadfast commitment to NHPBS. Your financial contribution will secure NHPBS’ ability to continue to provide quality public television experiences in the months ahead. Please consider an end-of-year gift at nhpbs.org/donate.
Together we are moving forward, keeping Granite Staters and our neighbors connected, engaged and entertained with important and creative programming. Thank you for your generous support.
