NHPBS Connections - March 2023

CREATING COMMUNITY

It’s certainly a very exciting time to be the director of development at New Hampshire PBS. Beth Evans joined the station in July 2022 and in a matter of months she’s had the opportunity to experience the breadth and impact of the station’s activities.

SMALL and MISS SCARLET AND THE DUKE, March brings with it a treasure trove of entertainment, including the music of John Denver, Billy Joel, The Carpenters, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan and Elvis Presley.

From the co-production of political debates with NH Public Radio, BritWit Club and NHPBS INSIDER SERIES events, to the taping of the new season of GRANITE STATE CHALLENGE and the launch of The Willem Lange Endowment Fund, it has been an opportunity to connect with viewers and see firsthand the deep connection between NHPBS and the community.

“It’s been wonderful to meet so many members at our events, they’re so appreciative of what we do. Whether it’s a favorite show or a news program, NHPBS is like a good friend stopping by to keep you company,” says Evans.

But there is no time to slow down for this veteran fundraising professional as March Pledge is a critically important time for the station.

“The needs of our community are our main focus and pledge drives allow our community to support the station,” says Evans. “Member support is vital in our local programming, to support the shows our viewers love, including WINDOWS TO THE WILD WITH WILLEM LANGE, GRANITE STATE CHALLENGE, OUR HOMETOWN, THE STATE WE’RE IN, and SENIORITY AUTHORITY.”

Member support is also vital to fund the PBS shows the station brings to its five channels, adds Evans. Along with favorites such as ALL CREATURES GREAT AND

And while March will also bring programs for adults, covering topics such as financial empowerment, health and wellbeing and the station engages in educational services for children year-round with an extensive array of online offerings and community engagement.

“The educational component is as important as the entertainment,” says Evans, who got to experience the combination of both aspects firsthand at a taping of GRANITE STATE CHALLENGE. “I was in the control booth and was able to see how the show was produced, all the moving parts and the students were so impressive.”

Evans says she’s looking forward to more opportunities to meet with viewers around the state and enjoys the opportunity to hear more about what people value in their public TV station.

“Among the benefits of membership, viewers really value the ability to watch their favorite programs on their own time with the PBS streaming app Passport,” adds Evans. “They have access to thousands of NHPBS and PBS programs from the PBS NEWSHOUR to MASTERPIECE dramas at their fingertips.”

“When you think about all the choices that viewers have nowadays, PBS has always been a trusted brand with deep roots in the community. If you’re not a member, we invite you to become one and join the thousands who keep NHPBS strong. We could not do it without our members and viewers like you.”
