Bringing Service to Life What’s Happening in the Lair? FREEDOM FEST Nacogdoches LOVES festivals; it seems like we are having a different festival every time we turn around. In July, Key Club volunteered at the Freedom Fest in downtown Nacogdoches in Festival Plaza on none other than the Fourth of July. We helped out at the bounce park and obstacle courses that were available for the festival-goers. Afterword, we stuck around for the fireworks show. Obviously, we had a wonderful time. I mean, how could we not have? On a side note, GOD BLESS AMERICA!
NEW SPONSOR It brings me great sadness to report that our marvelously wonderful class sponsor, Mrs. White, has accepted a new job in the Nacogdoches Independent School District that is not at the high school; as a result, she will no longer be serving as our sponsor. Mrs. White has brought so much
to our club and dedicated so much time, patience, and love to Key Club that it is hard to imagine next year without her in the picture. Luckily, she has ensured us that she will still be around whenever we need her and teach our new sponsor all the tricks of the trade. Key Club is a huge time commitment so we were ecstatic when Mrs. Ferrell, an English teacher at NHS, agree to be our sponsor. Mrs. Ferrell has a charismatic personality and a true desire to make the world a better place; we are all so excited to work with her! This transition for our club is bittersweet, but we could not be more ready to take on the challenge.

Are you the sharpest crayon in the box? I never was, am always to be. No one ever saw me, nor never will. And yet I am the confidence of all. What am I?

NEW CLASS ROOM Some new arrangements come with a new sponsor. Unfortunately, we will not be able to keep our previous classroom; however, we were fortunate enough to get a classroom of our own…hopefully.
UPCOMING EVENTS! Highway Cleanup Appleby Sand Rd August 3, 8 AM
Fish Camp Nacogdoches High School August 16, 8 AM – 3 PM
First Meeting of School Year Freshman Commons September 9, 7 PM
We have already moved out of our old classroom and into our new one. We have already even made a giant calendar on a whiteboard; one of the many things we lacked in our old classroom. Organization and pre-planning are some of the things we plan to accomplish and maintain this year.
UPCOMING As depressing as it is, school starts in less than a month; therefore, Key Club is kicking it back up to full gear. On August 3, the lovely officers and fearless members will be braving the Texas heat to clean up our adopted highway. We will be picking up trash along a two mile stretch of highway by the high school that we adopted last year. We would LOVE if you guys could come on out and help! The more people we have the better! We will also continue to have our weekly officer board meetings on Thursday throughout the month of August. At Fish Camp, or Freshmen Orientation, on August 16, we will be having a booth with all the information anyone could ever want about join Key Club while encouraging all the little fishies to join! School begins on August 26; however we will not have our first meeting until September 9, 2013. Lastly, our
2
annual Back-to-School Slip & Slide Social will be on September 23. Cannot wait to see you guys soon!
COLOR YOUR COMMUNITY Well, it is that time of year that we start brainstorming and solidifying our theme for the school year. This year, we have decided that our theme will be “Color Your Community with Service”. We believe that it is important, both for the community and for an individual’s character, to serve one’s community. A simple act of kindness can change someone’s whole day, and maybe even life. We are so excited about our upcoming year and cannot wait to see what the future holds! Treasure this last month of freedom, and as always, COLOR YOUR COMMUNITY WITH SERVICE.
