NEW YEAR, NEW YOU CASA BANQUET

Quote of the

Month “Do your little bit og good where you are. It’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.”

-Desmond Tutu

Recently, we did a project with Student Council to provide a healthy snack to all teachers on our school campus. This project was meant to support teachers in their efforts to make 2014 a healthier and more promising year. For this project we used all the basic healthy food groups to provide the teachers with filling and healthy snacks, such as grapes, oranges, popcorn, apple slices, and water. All the teachers loved the snacks and we received many thank you notes.

PAINTED N’S Key Club is responsible for selling the new painted N’s to freshman. So if you are a freshman or know a freshman who wants one please contact an officer or Mrs. Ferrell!

SYRUP FESTIVAL The Kiwanis club of Nacogdoches is known for making pancakes and the Syrup Festival here in downtown Nacogdoches is no exception. From 8 AM - 12:30 PM, Nacogdoches Key Club members assisted Kiwanis members in preparation. cooking, and serving, of the pancakes.

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Deep East Texas (DET) is an organization whose mission is to speak in court for Nacogdoches County child victims of abuse and neglect living in foster care. On January 25, 2014, CASA of DET held its 8th Annual “Justice is Served” Celebrity Waiter fundraiser. The banquet featured guest speaker along with both a live and silent auction. They accepted donations that will assist in raising funds needed for the upcoming fiscal year. We were asked to help with the banquet after having also assisted CASA with their 5K earlier in the year. Members busted tables and helped served food and drinks.

DCON The Texas-Oklahoma Key Club District Convention is sneaking up on us faster than anticipated. Every year, Key Clubbers from all over the Texas-Oklahoma district meet up in Dallas in order to learn more about what Key Club is all about, wrap up the year, train new club officers, elect new staff officers, and award clubs for all of their hard work over the past year.

This past year at DCON, we were honored to be recognized as ranked as the 8th club out of over 350 clubs in the Texas-Oklahoma district. We have been working very hard in order to hopefully maintain or improve our rank.

PANCAKE DINNER Our annual pancake dinner will be Tuesday, February 4, the night of the guys’ home basketball game against Jacksonville. Tickets will be $5 for all you can eat pancakes! This is our major fund raiser of the year so members will be required to sell at least 5 tickets, but we will be selling tickets at the door. You don’t want to miss out on this because, as always, we’re bringing in the professional pancake makers for this one: the Kiwanis! The Pancake Dinner is our major fundraiser every year and it is where we raise funds that will be used toward the price of District Convention (DCON) for members to attend and covering the cost the officer scrapbooks that will be judged at DCON.

UPCOMING February is going to be a busy month, especially considering

prom is February 15th. As always, there will be hour opportunities to help set up and decorate for prom on the Friday afternoon before and on Saturday morning! Another project that is prom related that we will be taking on in February will be Project Prom Dress. The mission of this locally tun project is to provide young ladies in need with a prom dress and all accessories needed for prom. Also, we will hold officer elections for the 20142015 school year at our meeting on Monday, February 17. Make sure to talk to Ferrell if you are interested in a position. Since baseball season is here, we have been asked to help run the baseball concession stand. Shifts will be two hours. Lastly, the Habitat for Humanity store is relocating on Saturday, February 8 from Power Street to South Street. This project has been opened up to the entire community, especially those with trucks who are willing to assist them in their relocation. Any help at any of these events is greatly appreciated.

SET SAIL Remember it is never too late to SET SAIL WITH SERVICE!

Are you the sharpest crayon in the box? When you need it, you throw it away. But when you don’t need it, you take it back. Know the answer? Get an hour! Contact an officer!
