Who Are We Jones Publishing and Enterprises (JP&E) is a company that publishes an online magazine, books and tools for spiritual and holistic growth, music/poetry content, live broadcasts and web documentaries. JP&E also specializes in editing and editorial services. The owner, Nia Jovan Andrews, is the overseer of all manuscript editing projects. We focus primarily on urban-fiction, memoirs and spiritual novel manuscript submissions exclusively for editing. Our strength is in copyediting (structural), line editing (consistencies), content editing (facts) and proofreading. We see a manuscript all the way through until it is ready for print. We coach authors in their writing process, advise on intellectual properties and set-up a focus group of readers to critique the manuscript prior to the final-copy being sent to the publisher or to print. We also provide various editorial services, Intellectual Property consulting and registration assistance with copyrights and trademarks (see pp. 4 – 6). As a company, it is our mission to expose the greatness of everyday people. Our vision is to begin to peel back the layers in order to expose the greatness that is on the inside of all of us, but most importantly within our youth and young adults. The focus in 2014 is on personal development and claiming ownership of the issues we individually bring to relationships that cause friction and division; applying journalism techniques in Chicago's youth development in Reading/English criteria through the implementation of Common Core; finally, engaging with overlooked communities to strategize on small business ideas. As a service provider in publishing this mission will assist us in what is highly importantly, which is garnering the partnerships and relationships of authors, businesses and corporations that are community builders and rebuilders who are interested in reaching people and transforming lives.

What We Do Editing Services (editorial services pg. 5) is our primary focus that affords us the ability to do community work and make our tools like the magazine free to young adults for guidance along with many other activities we provide and host. We take our time analyzing each manuscript that come to us to draw-up a timeline and an agreement. Every manuscript that we take in will go through a copyediting, line editing, content editing (for non-fiction) and proofreading process. The copy editing process focuses on the structure of the manuscript. We scrutinize the flow of the story through the copy editing process. Sometimes, the writer will hand in a manuscript where the story is chronological, like in 1999 this occurred, in 2003 this happened and in 2010 and so on, but sometimes, depending on the story it can be more effective to mix it up and go back and forth, but the copy editing process will play around with the structure of the story in order to find how it is best delivered. The line editing process focuses on the consistencies, line by line. For example, if you are in one spot you’re an adult then suddenly you are a child again without it being intentional the line editing process will catch those type of discrepancies. The content editing process is strictly for non-fiction it is fact checking to assure that all the information that’s attributed or referenced is accurate. Also, that all quotes are accurate, named individuals title are correct, dates are accurate and anything that deal with other content or people are accurate. Proofreading process is spelling, grammar and punctuation, even if its urban-fiction proofreading matters. It may not be proper grammar or spelling, but if your character speaks “urban” you do not want to find an isn’t where there should be an ain’t and vice versa for intellectual novels. Review process, we invite a group of selected reviewers who have signed confidentiality agreements to read and critique the manuscript over a 2-week period and we meet to go over their suggestions, not to change the content, but enhance the esthetics of the story and disclose if they would purchase it as a book. We have chosen a range of avid readers to critic the manuscripts. They are unpaid, but they respect their exclusive privilege of having a say so over a manuscript prior to it being submitted for publishing. They understand that our company depends on them and they see their importance in the involvement of our editing process. After the review process we meet with the writer to discuss what the reviewers shared and the writer decides if he/she wants to make the suggested changes and we work with them to completion if they decide to adhere to the reviewer’s suggestions.

What We Charge We do not break-out our services. Each step is a standard for every manuscript. We base our prices by the hour and every project requires a $500 deposit once the manuscript is accepted and the timeline and agreement is signed. (Our prices are based-off the Editorial Freelancers Association). Here’s our math formula for pricing a manuscript 100,000 word count (Keep in mind that there are three edits and a proofread) 10 pages/hr. (a manuscript page is a solid 250 words) $40/hour 100,000wds/250wds per page = 400 pages 400 pages / 10 pages per hour = 40 hours 40hrs / $40 = $1600 $1600 X 3 edits = $4800 (Extract $1600 if it is fiction) Proofread 100,000 word count 13 pages/hr. 400 pages / 13 pages/hr. = 31 31hrs X $30 = 930 Complete project is $5730.00 (Extract $1600 if it is fiction)

Intellectual Property Consulting & Registration (Copyrights & Trademarks) We will help you mitigate any risk by taking precautionary steps to protect your brand. We will help you decide if you have copyrightable material that is protectable according to Copyright Law of the United States of America Title 17 of the United States Code and explain what your copyrights protect according to your specific work. If you do and it falls under the category of literary works, we will help you register your works. We focus entirely on literary and musical works (see music publishing & copyrights for musical works) under our copyright servicing, which are works, other than audiovisual works, expressed in words, numbers, or other verbal or numerical symbols or indicia, regardless of the nature of the material objects, such as books, periodicals, manuscripts, phonorecords, film, tapes, disks or cards, in which they are embodied.

We are a publishing house that will publish your musical works and musical composition. We will register the copyrights with the U.S. Copyright Office and register your works with ASCAP. You will have songwriter/composer publishing rights, while we will be registered as the publisher. Why is it important to register your work?

1. It is important if you created the work that you have ownership over what you created. 2. You should be getting paid for your work. 3. The originator of the work should be documented so that no one can claim your work as their own. 4. Did we mention you should be getting paid for your work? According to the United States Copyright Office, a musical composition consist of music, including any accompanying words, and is normally registered as work of the performing arts. The author of a musical composition is generally the composer, and the lyricist, if any. A musical composition may be in the form of a phonorecord (for example, cassette tape, LP or CD). Sending a musical composition in the form of a phonorecord does not necessarily mean that there is a claim to the copyright in the sound recording. A sound recording results from the fixation of a series of musical, spoken, or other sounds. The author of a sound recording is the performer (s) whose performance is fixed, or the record producer who process the sounds and fixes them in the final recording, or both. Copyright in a sound recording is not the same as, or a substitute for, copyright in the underlying musical composition.

About the Publisher Nia Jovan Andrews, 30, is a Chicago native, who studied journalism magazine article writing at Columbia College Chicago. She's driven, motivated and inspired by the stories of everyday people. She applies her leadership skills and corporate knowledge from her years of experience in banking and association work to the development of the magazine. Her desire to create the publication started in 2006, while taking a desktop publishing class at Columbia, but her internship at Chicago Beauty-Pretty City, an online magazine, gave her more insight on the change that was taking place in media and pushed her further into wanting to publish her own magazine. She is currently enrolled at The John Marshall Law School, pursuing a master's degree in Intellectual Property – Copyrights & Trademarks, and honing in on her editing skills to help authors and selfpublishers on their journey into entrepreneurship in publishing. Above all of her professional endeavors her most challenging yet highly fulfilling and rewarding task is being a mother to Daniel Stephen Williams Jr., 10, who wants to follow in his mother’s footsteps and become a published author with his first book titled “All about Me.” Nia has had an affinity to write all of her life. She feels that her life’s purpose is to tell stories that will help people get through the vicissitudes of life. Once she discovered her purpose it ignited her passion and she realized that her works can go further than a cubicle and that passion pushed her to take a leap of faith. Her business began with the online magazine. Once she started her works in the magazine she began to realize more and more needs in her community and that made her want to take the magazine a step further and she began “One Purpose Publishing Company.” Back in 2011, she realized that her plans were bigger than her and it began to speak to legacy, so she embraced her mother’s maiden name for the company name which is where she got “Jones Publishing & Enterprises.” Once she established the foundation, she allowed the other services to be birth out of the needs of people who want to be published and the things they would need to know in order to get there, make money and protect their works and her innate desire to be an attorney caused her to further her knowledge in intellectual property that is why she is now pursuing a MS at The John Marshall Law School. Within the next two-years, Nia’s plan is to have her own memoir released and then begin to focus more on exposing greatness through people in various communities in One Purpose Magazine and become a highly recognized Chicago-based publishing company that offers guidance in publishing literary works and a publishing house for musical works.
