LIFE IS A JOURNEY JOURNEY, JOU RNEY, AN EXPERIENCE, RNEY, A CHALLENGE... IN 2008, I DECIDED TO STUDY ABOARD AND PREPARED FOR ONLY THREE MONTHS, I LEFT MY COLLEGE AND FLIED TO ISU AT NEW YEAR EVE; ONE DAY BEFORE MY FIRST SEMESTER AT ISU, I MADE MY FIRST UNPREPARED PRESENTATION TO MY FUTURE ADVISER AND STRIVED FOR FINISHING MY DEGREE IN FOUR YEAR INSTAND OF FIVE.

THANKS FOR THE DECISION, I HAD MORE CHANCES TO TRAVEL WITH STUDIO AROU AROUND U.S. .S. AND MEET FRIENDS AROUND ND THE WORLD. I COULD EXPERIENCE MULTIPLE TRADITIONS AND CUL CULTURES OF COUNTRIES, OBSERVE VARIES FORMS AND SPIRITS CULTU OF URBANS RBANS, AND ENJOY DIFFERENT LANDSCAPES OF THE WORLD. ALL OF THESE JOURNEYS ARE PRECIOUS EXPERIENCES IN MY DESIGN CAREER AND LIFE. TRAVEL BECOME ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT ANT COMPONENTS OF MY LIFE.

LIFE IS A JOURNEY. EACH STEP IS A CHALLENGE, I WILL NEVER KNOW WHA WHAT T IN FRONT OF ME. HOWEVER, I BELIEVE IF I DARE TO TAKE AKE A STEP, THERE WILL BE HALF CHANCE TO SEE GREA GREAT LANDSCAPE. STUDY TUD IN UNIVERSITY NIVERSITY IS ONE OF MY BEST EXPERIENCE IN MY LIFE. IT IS TOO BRIGHT, PURE PU , AND FREE TO TAKE AKE NEXT STEP. BIKE TRAIL

The “Big Idea” of my design comes from Piet Mondrian’s painting “Broadway Boogie – Woogie”. The painting divided the canvas into a much larger number of squares, to represent the motion of the city. It is inspired by city gird of Manhattan. The painting clearly showed how the urban transportation system connects the city and represented the urban texture. So the “Big Idea” is to use the lower level of the bridge as a bike & pedestrian trial, and create liner space as an art gallery for art projects exhibitions. The bridge could become an “Art Corridor” to link downtown Cleveland and residential area on the west. LLUSTRATOR

C

0 5

The lower level will be divided as three trails. Mid trail will be pedestrian with exhibition space on both sides. Two bike trails will be planned on two sides. To change the lightness and cold conditions in the lower level bridge, a designed ceiling will be as one of the most important elements in the design. Inspired by Mondrian’s painting, several liner patterns will be decorated on the ceiling. The patterns will be composed by square color LEDs. The whole liner patterns can create the vivid feeling of the lower level space, and build great night vision of the trails. On the east pool and west catacombs, the lower levels are underground. Two holes will be designed one the upper lower to let the sunlight get into the lower level space. The holes could be designed as islands of the upper level.

The Swan Lake district contained three primary roads: East Taihu Av., Swan Lake Av, and Longxiang Road. One secondary road: Youxiang Road. And one tertiary road: South Longxiang Road. The exsiting circulation connect downtown Suzhou, Swan Lake district, and Taihu together. The most area of our site are farm lands. And the exsiting water area is 39.09 hectares. Include open water area, creek, aqueduct, and pool. Swan Lake is the largest lake in our site. Swan Lake used to be birds’ habitat, especially for swans’. However, the environment had almost be destroied by human activity. Include Swan Lake and Yuelai Creek, most of the riverbanks are artificial riverbank. Only Based on the Latest Zoning map, the biggest problem of our site is that commerical blocks are seperated by the river. The problem will effect the interaction of each commerical block.
