SUPEREXPO2016 – CHAIRMAN MESSAGE
A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF THE ORGANISING COMMITTEE, CHRIS NOLAN Dear industry colleague This will be the second SuperExpo hosted jointly by the Blind Manufacturers’ Association of Australia (BMAA) and the Specialised Textiles Association (STA) and, like the first, it promises to be a great success, given the extraordinary level of support that has been shown by industry suppliers. Visitors will be treated to a veritable showcase of new ideas, new products and innovation. The industry sectors represented are ranged across the full spectrum of ‘textile conversion’ and, while the main focus is of course on blinds and awnings, other related products will also be promoted. For example, this year we have a contingent from the Textile Distributors Association, the members of which will be exhibiting internal window coverings and soft furnishings. I have been asked often what do these different sectors have in common, and would they not be better off hosting individual, specialist shows? My answer has always been that there is considerable overlap between them. For example, the same fabric used in an awning is used in the manufacture of a marine canopy; and the owners of luxury boats are in the market for the same types of internal blinds as used in their residences. But, quite apart from this obvious supplier and fabricator overlap, there are issues facing all sectors that are common, such as certification, training, promotion of Australian manufacture and political lobbying, which are ultimately better dealt with collectively. The connection and networking that occurs at the combined SuperExpo is a baby step toward the greater cooperation needed to effectively address these issues on a national scale. In 2013, the SuperExpo took place with the consequences of the Global Financial Crisis still upon us like a giant hangover. Consumer sentiment was depressed, the political outlook uncertain and a high dollar was wreaking havoc with our manufacturing competiveness. It was heartening then to see our industry leaders investing heavily in their stands and promotional activity, at a time when their accountants were most probably preaching caution with expenditure. It was a sign of the confidence that they had in the future and of a determination to make sure they made the most of it. In 2016, some of the issues we face, such as political indecisiveness and uncertainty, are still the same. But once again the same industry leaders have stepped up to the plate, again determined to put the industry, and their contribution to it, in the best possible light. I commend the SuperExpo to you, and hope that for you, it generates the same buzz that it has in me! Finally, as chairman of the Convention Committee I would also like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank our sponsors on behalf of everyone involved. Without their continuous support and generosity, events such as this would not be possible. Christopher Nolan Organising Committee Chairman

SUPEREXPO2016 – PRESIDENT MESSAGES
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE BLIND MANUFACTURERS’ ASSOCIATION OF AUSTRALIA
I
t is with great pleasure that I welcome all exhibitors, visitors and Association members to our SuperExpo2016, our triennial exhibition for the window furnishings and specialised textiles industries. SuperExpo2016 has been organised jointly by the Blind Manufacturers’ Association of Australia and the Specialised Textiles Association. After the success of the inaugural joint SuperExpo in 2013, we are delighted that many of our past exhibitors are attending again, and have significantly increased the size of their stands. We are also pleased with the number of new exhibitors who will be exhibiting at our show for the first time. In addition to the four halls at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre that were utilised at the 2013 SuperExpo, we have opened up Central Rooms B and C to cater for the increased size of the show. The exhibition will provide a congenial atmosphere and opportunity for exhibitors to showcase their products and services over the three days of the show. Apart from the exhibition itself, SuperExpo2016 presents an excellent platform for networking, exchange of knowledge and information between individuals and companies, which can lead to business opportunities and strategic partnerships between exhibitors and visitors. In this challenging business environment, new companies are emerging and new markets are being developed, presenting plenty of opportunities. The program includes a Welcome Cocktail Party, Golf Day, Wednesday night’s Awards Dinner and Friday Night’s Gala Ball. There will also be several business presentations conducted over the three days. Thank you to our SuperExpo 2016 organising committee and the project manager Brett Greene for their hard work in putting together the show. I trust you will enjoy SuperExpo2016 and that it will be a great success for all. Joe Turner President Blind Manufacturers’ Association of Australia

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE SPECIALISED TEXTILES ASSOCIATION
A
s president of the Specialised Textiles Association (STA) I’d like to extend a warm but huge welcome to all exhibitors, delegates and visitors to the exciting event that is SuperExpo 2016. This event, of course, for the second time brings together two wonderful associations in the Specialised Textiles Association and the Blind Manufacturers’ Association of Australia to proudly put our industry on trade display. Over the past 18 months, a dedicated organising executive committee, comprising Chris Nolan (chairman), Joe Turner and Lyn Potesil (BMAA), Ana Drougas and I (STA), have worked tirelessly with event coordinator Brett Greene to make this event a monumental success. The aim has been to create an event with an environment of potential business growth, information sharing and learning for people and companies in many aspects of the industry. Along with an absolutely huge and brilliantly laid out three-day trade show in the Gold Coast Exhibition and Convention Centre, many other programs and events have been scheduled during this jam-packed SuperExpo week on the Gold Coast – events such as the Welcome Reception and Golf Day, neither of which will be outdone by two outstanding five-star evenings in the STA Awards for Excellence and the BMAA Gala Dinner. These two events are always exceptional nights of celebration and are truly not to be missed. As this event grows in size and stature, and the inspiration and information goes to new and exciting levels, it’s great to have representation in 2016 from the Marine Fabricators and also the Textile Distributors Association (TDA). I’m sure both of these groups will add their own brand of extreme value to an expo that already promises to be an absolutely unmissable event. On a personal note, it’s been fabulous working in conjunction with two proud associations to bring together SuperExpo2016. I would love to think that the relationship between these two great organisations will only grow over time. I hope you all have a wonderful week on the Gold Coast and enjoy every aspect of what can only be described as a terrific celebration of our industry in Australia. SUNWAY: HELPING FABRICATORS ACHIEVE GREATER LOYALTY FROM RETAILERS Hunter Douglas recently introduced an exciting new solution for window covering fabricators seeking to provide their retailers with a complete merchandising and marketing support package that is stylish, user friendly and conveys quality. Vera Meharg, marketing manager for the Hunter Douglas Components Division, says Sunway was specifically introduced to provide window covering fabricators with tools to empower their retailers by inspiring and educating customers in the showroom as well as in their homes, to drive both engagement and retail sales. She adds that along with traditional fabric window coverings, such as roller blinds, “Sunway also helps fabricators with
introducing cellular shades into their retailers’ product mix by providing a range of selling tools designed to support the sales process.” The Sunway program provides support throughout the supply chain across three key areas: inspiration, interaction and selection. “With Sunway, we really wanted the core focus to be on the consumer and having them engage with the swatching and the collateral to create more meaning and value around the products,” says Meharg. SuperExpo 2016 will provide the perfect platform for Hunter Douglas to showcase Sunway and the benefits of the program for both the fabricator and their retailers. Visit the Hunter Douglas stand to find out more information.

ROLLEASE ACMEDA
W
ith consumer behaviour shifting towards more sustainable living and creating smart homes, a priority for Rollease Acmeda is to deliver more options in outdoor shading and home automation. You will clearly see that the new developments from Rollease Acmeda – launching at SuperExpo2016 – aim to not only provide functional benefits for the end user, but also allow for more efficient manufacturing. The Veue Drop Awnings range is one of these developments. The comprehensive suite, along with the existing Zipscreen, offers five different outdoor shading systems to suit a variety of applications, while retaining a consistent aesthetic. Veue comprises straight, wire guide and channel guide drop awnings, as well as a pivot arm option. Veue components are compatible with and provide an upgrade to the popular side-retention system, Zipscreen. The Veue suite offers a number of standout features for manufacturers, including the benefit of configuring multiple systems while holding less inventory. The same components for the square head-box can be applied across the whole range and they can be adapted to create a fully or partially enclosed box, a full or partial fascia, as well as still having the option for having a completely open-bracketed solution. Additionally, the end plates for the suite are a universal fit. They include pre-marked sections that can be easily ‘snapped off’ to accommodate crank gear controls or side channels. The aluminium die-cast end plates also offer an advantage on the aesthetic side. The entire head-box can be powder-coated, so a completely customised colour finish can be achieved. An improved, yet slimline, weight bar also offers greater rigidity in order to tolerate the wider spans while maintaining a premium look.
Veue Wire Guide and Zipscreen products are also compatible with Rollease Acmeda’s recently released patented locking device, Ultra-Lock. When Ultra-Lock is combined with the proprietary Automate FT (fabric tension) motor, outdoor shades can be automatically closed, locked and tensioned in one action. From a consumer standpoint, whether the shades are installed to enclose an outdoor entertaining space or utilised to externally cover windows for a reduction in energy usage, Veue Drop Awnings offer flexibility while delivering a contemporary and consistent aesthetic and advanced operating solutions. Rollease Acmeda has also been working hard to deliver some exciting additions and significant changes to the Automate motorisation program in the lead-up to SuperExpo2016. The strategy is to make motorisation more accessible to the mass market, not only to enhance the user experience, but also as a fundamental child-safe option. The latest additions to the Automate Wirefree series include the choice of two motors with internally-housed lithium-ion batteries. The new and improved 1.1 Nm motor (25mm) is suitable for use in the Rollease Acmeda 40mm aluminium tubes – in addition to the 35mm and 45mm tubes. Additionally, the brand new, 3 Nm motor (35mm) has three times the lifting capacity of the 1.1 Nm motor, making it more suitable for larger open plan applications when linking multiple blinds.
ARC Another major part of the next generation of Automate products is the new RF protocol – ARC (Automate Radio Communication). ARC is incorporated into the entire range of Automate motors and it assists in minimising energy consumption when the motor is not ‘active’. It’s a step towards a reduction in overall household energy usage, along with boasting an extended battery life for the wire-free motors. Programming with ARC compatible Automate products has been significantly streamlined, ensuring simple and efficient installation. ARC also features bi-directional communication between motors and controllers, enabling feedback on motor position and battery status. ARC is also at the core of a new Automate Wi-Fi device and smartphone app set to provide considerable flexibility for the installation and operation of motorised blinds. Installers will no longer require a traditional remote control to perform the initial set-up of motors – this can all be completed from any smartphone or tablet using the Automate app. Programming itself will also be straightforward with a set-up wizard included within the app, doing away with hardcopy programming instructions. Operating the blinds will be greatly improved, with the app offering options to control not only by selecting individual blinds or a group of blinds, but the choice to set up multiple timers, control via room selection and even establish scenarios for blind control based on user habits and activities.

WEINOR WINS WALSH BAY
W
alsh Bay in Sydney is the first major commercial project won by the Germany powerhouse awning and retractable roof system manufacturer. One hundred and sixty-five motorised ‘Cassita 2 LED’ folding arm awnings were sold and installed by Erebus Shading, which has had years of experience in installing large-scale commercial projects, as well as high-end residential projects. The project is nearing completion and we are pleased to say that everything from measuring to supplying and installing has gone off without a hitch.
Perfectly project managed and installed by Erebus Shading, Weinor awnings Australian agent, Blinds by Peter Meyer couldn’t be happier with the outcome. A lot of effort was put in by both Erebus and Blinds by Peter Meyer to secure the project, which ended up being the most competitive priced product, as well as the best quality and design. The awnings were all shipped in two 12-metre (40-foot) containers helping save on freight costs, which helped get this project over the line! Weinor won this prestigious project over tough competition from many
local and imported products due to the quality of its awnings, as well as their flexibility and strength! Unique points of difference like drop forged parts, Dyneema long life tape for quiet arm operation and the in-house custom-made LED lights all made for a package that won over a very discerning customer. With views over the Sydney Harbour Bridge and foreshore, this truly is one of the most prestigious locations to have our first major project installed. Somfy was the operating motor and control system of choice on this project with RTS motors and non RTS motors throughout the project, as well as LED light receivers and Eolis wind sensors all working together to complete the installation! RICKY RICHARDS
W
elcome to SuperExpo 2016! The past year has been busy for the Ricky Richards team and we are excited to be on the Gold Coast, participating in this great industry event. Let us take you on a journey to explore some of the great developments that we have been working on over the last 12 months and that we will be presenting to you during the SuperExpo. MELANOMA INSTITUTE PARTNERSHIP A well-documented and major initiative was the partnering of Ricky Richards with Melanoma Institute Australia. Due to tremendous support of the Partnering for Prevention program, we are proud to share that we are well and truly on target to meet our minimum donation commitment of $100,000 this financial year, in support of such a fabulous organisation. During SuperExpo we’ll be revealing phase two of our program, and we’ll also reveal our most recent tally update. The friendly representatives from the Institute will be visiting SuperExpo too, so please come by and say hello to them. This dedicated team of people want to meet and personally thank our customers for supporting Ricky Richards in an initiative that helps to promote awareness of melanoma across Australia. As always the Ricky team has been working hard with the release of several new products into markets
across all divisions of the business. With inspiration from R+T Europe 2015 and by working with our wonderful suppliers, the Window Furnishing Fabrics team are ready to unveil the new Outlook and Docril collections for the upcoming summer season. With the launch of new textures, colours and designs, these showstopping collections are a must-see at SuperExpo! Keep an eye out too for the versatile, printable awning fabrics that we will also have on display. G-FLOOR The launch of G-Floor, a new product for graphic flooring has been keeping the Ricky Richards Wide Format Print Media team busy! This unique product moves beyond traditional floor graphics and allows you to create stunning graphic flooring that will completely alter the environment of a store, museum, shopping centre or special event. G-Floor is changing the retail and special flooring market forever, providing the end customer with unlimited graphic and design options. In addition to G-Floor, be sure not to miss the Dreamscape collection of products! These printable commercial wall coverings will complete the look of any room and create stunning visual features for any decorating or advertising project. See G-Floor and Dreamscape on display at the Ricky Richards stand.
MONOTEC The Industrial Textiles division have been busy this year! The launch of Monotec 370 Series new colour, Candy, has been a great addition to this already vibrant commercial shadecloth collection for shade sails and structures. In addition to this, the team has a selection of new Sio-Line PVC fabrics for specialised requirements, including rapid speed doors, jumping mattresses, caravan and camping, and architectural structures. THE BEAUTY OF BRICOS MERMET CELEBRATES IN 2016 Born from innovation in France in 1951, Mermet has many reasons to celebrate in 2016. Not only is the brand celebrating its 65th birthday this year, but 2016 also marks Mermet’s 25th year in Australia, as well as 40 years in the global sunscreen textile market. Mermet in Australia is celebrating these milestones in true Mermet style: by adding new decorator fabrics to the celebrated Cachet Collection, introducing new colours to its existing textured Kenross and Scarborough fabric ranges, and by refreshing its superior quality Performance Sunscreens collection of solar control textiles. The improvements to Mermet’s Performance Sunscreens collection include: • a revamp of the E-Screen 2x2 fabric, which has more than doubled the size of this range to accommodate an exciting new colour palette • the launch of the new E-Screen Chrome metallised fabric, and • the introduction of a new GreenScreen swatch to showcase Mermet’s collection of 100 percent PVC-free polyester sunscreen fabrics, including GreenScreen Revive and Vela Met. Mermet is internationally renowned for creating innovative, functional, intelligent fabrics designed for solar protection, stylish visual aesthetics, energy savings and comfort. Some of the brand’s most impressive recent innovations in sunscreen fabrics include the invention of KoolBlack Technology and the introduction of GreenScreen Revive fabric. Mermet’s patented KoolBlack Technology provides cutting edge technologies to regulate heat in darkcoloured fabrics in order to provide superior protection against heat and light. KoolBlack Technology has enabled the energy efficiency of dark
sunscreen fabrics to reach levels comparable with light colours while retaining the inherent benefits of dark sunscreen fabrics, such as superior view-through and exceptional glare control. In fact, only dark solar shade fabrics with KoolBlack Technology can provide this unique combination of exceptional glare control, comfortable view-through and elegant streetside aesthetics while reducing heat. Mermet’s GreenScreen Revive fabric is arguably the most sustainable window covering fabric on the market in three-metre width, setting new standards for the industry. GreenScreen Revive fabric is woven with yarn made from 89 percent recycled plastic bottles to create a unique, highly sustainable, 100 percent recyclable window covering fabric that also carries the Cradle to Cradle Bronze certification.
As a pioneer and world leader in the global solar protection market for 40 years, it’s no surprise that Mermet has also developed some of the most technologically advanced solar screen fabrics in the industry, creating fabrics that are the ideal window furnishing solution for Australia’s harsh summers. Visit Bricos at stand G98 to view highlights from the Mermet collection and experience for yourself the latest technology and product innovations in solar protection. range includes a beautiful fabric collection of double cell and small and large single cell fabrics, featuring a refreshed colour palette designed to reflect current and emerging colour trends. The Arena Honeycomb fabric collection is complemented by an upgraded, sleek, new hardware system featuring a new, extended colour palette for superior colour coordination. Launching at SuperExpo2016 are two new, child-friendly Arena Honeycomb control systems – Momenta motorisation and Lift and Lock – both of which are designed to fit seamlessly with the sleek universal hardware that is characteristic of Arena Honeycomb Shades. These two new control systems are a fitting addition to the Arena Honeycomb Shades program, which already offered the child-friendly Cordless and EasyRise control systems, alongside its Classic Cord Lock. The cellular honeycomb shape of Arena Honeycomb Shades fabrics provides insulation through its air pockets, increasing their ability to keep the home warm in winter and cool in summer, creating a highly energyefficient window covering solution. The energy efficiency properties of Arena Honeycomb Shades make them an ideal window covering solution for energyconscious consumers. The added benefits delivered by features such as minimal light gaps, sound absorption
and superior thermal insulation, alongside the availability of several child-safe control systems, give Arena Honeycomb Shades a number of distinct advantages over alternative window covering solutions. Visit Turnils at Bricos on stand G98 to experience the impressive Arena Honeycomb Shades collection for yourself and meet the international product experts from Turnils North America, who are visiting Australia especially for SuperExpo2016. The Turnils display also features a range of other window covering solutions, including Faber Aluminium Venetians, Woodstock Venetians and the recently revamped Deco Plus Verticals. Also on display is the impressive collection of folding arm awnings by Turnils – including the recently launched FA22 Piccolo model – all of which are designed, engineered and manufactured in Sweden.
PVC slubs adversely affecting the fabric openness and view-through. This is just one of the reasons why the SunShadow Net Series and RR Series sunscreen fabrics are favourites in the Australian market. Bricos is excited to be previewing a number of potential new SunShadow fabrics at SuperExpo2016. Visit Bricos at stand G98 to meet the international team behind SunShadow and be among the first to see these new SunShadow fabrics.
SUNSHADOW PREVIEWS NEW FABRICS Exclusive to Bricos, SunShadow sunscreen fabrics offer excellent performance with a quality PVC-coated polyester yarn construction. SunShadow sunscreen fabrics boast a perfectly uniform, cylindrical coating of the yarn, ensuring a clean, crisp view with consistent openness. This is a distinct advantage over other polyester screen fabrics, which can appear fuzzy, with

BLIND MANUFACTURERS’ ASSOCIATION OF AUSTRALIA Why do we need our trade association and why should you be a member? Because there really is strength in numbers, says BMAA Membership Committee Chair Peter Meyer.
T
he BMAA is the voice of the window covering industry. It’s really as simple as this. We are a group of your peers who understand our industry totally and care enough about it to give up our valuable time to attempt to steer the industry through the seas of government rules and regulations for the benefit of all of us. Do I have your attention yet? Our industry has been very good to many of us. I know it has been good to me and my family. It has allowed us to work hard in an industry we love and has rewarded us well. In fact the harder we worked, the luckier we got. Have you heard this before? Without a strong industry, none of this is possible. None of us owns our industry. We all contribute to our industry continuance and we all benefit from our industry largesse. It has always been this way. Our industry has a life of its own and we are lucky enough to spend a small amount of time as temporary custodians of our industry. Spend the time wisely. So what do we at BMAA do? I am listing here just a few of the many major things that the BMAA concerns itself with for your consideration: • Child safety – an ongoing matter.
• Promote Australian manufacturers – while contentious, the BMAA does everything within its power to promote Australian manufacturers. We certainly need numbers to achieve this. • Code of Ethics – we provide a code of ethics for our members to work by. It’s a good guideline and something the public can trust. • Dispute resolution – the BMAA is able to supply dispute resolution in matters where a manufacturer has a problem with a client. • Energy Rating Scheme – this will be a major achievement for BMAA and will provide an invaluable tool for manufacturers to use as a sales aid. • Networking opportunity – BMAA membership provides a unique forum to come together with industry contemporaries. • Lobby government – an association to do this on our behalf. • Exclusive discounts and deals – business and lifestyle purchases. While I know we have our detractors, the real facts are these. The BMAA does a very good job for the industry and has the industry’s best interests at heart. The committee works without vested interest and listens to its members. Now not everybody agrees with this
summation because some people have egos that override logical thoughts, but the BMAA has an outstanding record of successful negotiations on behalf of its members. If you aren’t yet a member, discover the benefits for yourself now… WINCOVER, THE BMAA ENERGY RATING SCHEME – SEMINAR DURING SUPEREXPO 2016 Wincover, the BMAA Energy Rating Scheme is a rating system that compares the energy efficiency performance of different materials used to create shading layers, and includes internal and external window coverings. Designed for the Australian built environment, it has been scientifically developed in cooperation with the leading authorities in this field. The scheme uses a 10 star-rating system (10 stars for heating and 10 stars for cooling) to help guide consumers when selecting shading materials based on their energy performance. Come along and hear about Wincover at a free seminar to be held during SuperExpo2016. The seminar will be held on Friday 10 June 2016 at 11am at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre, Broadbeach (meeting room 10).

AUSTRALIAN MADE THERMALITE™ SHUTTERS Fed up with selling the same Chinese made shutters?
WOULD YOU LIKE TO OFFER A 3 WEEK DELIVERY RATHER THAN 8-12 WEEKS?
What makes Thermalite™ unique?

• 25 Year Warranty • In addition to saving on energy costs, Thermalite™ won’t crack, warp, peel or discolour • Thermalite™ comes with the longest and most comprehensive Warranty in the industry, one that’s even transferable to the next homeowner • Best painted finish in the industry • Water resistant, termite proof and fire retardant • Dents can be “warmed out” • Suitable for every room in the house including bathrooms & kitchens, where moisture can damage timber shutters • Ideal for both internal and external applications • Louvre’s will never lose tension
OPPORTUNITY TO SUCCESS Become a Thermalite Shutter Manufacturer “Cash Flow” is the single most important factor in every business. Having to wait 8-10 weeks for an imported order, then a further week or so to install. All the time with the hope that the order you receive is correct and not damaged. Planning cash flow 3-4 months out can be difficult. With your opposition selling exactly the same product to exactly the same clientele can make you “one of the crowd”. DECOR BLINDS AUSTRALIA
D
ecor Blinds Australia has been manufacturing shutters in Australian for over 30 years and, during this time, the company has seen a number of changes, in both products and customer expectations. In the 1980s all shutters were made in Australia using Western red cedar and the required look was always natural timber in either light or dark tones. Then, approximately 20 years ago, the trend changed to having a white painted ďŹ nish. The blinds were still manufactured in timber, but painted in shades of white. The painted ďŹ nish shutters allowed manufacturers to look at alternative materials other than Western red cedar, as cedar was becoming very expensive and very labour intensive.
At the same time the popularity of and demand for shutters increased and Decor Blinds Australia shifted its focus from Western red cedar to introduce and manufacture Thermalite shutters for the Australian market. Thermalite shutters were developed and made in the US and today it is still the largest selling shutter made in the US. Thermalite has also become the biggest selling Australian made shutter over the past 20 years. No other company can manufacture and deliver plantation shutters as quickly as Decor Blinds Australia, while at the same time supplying a quality product second to none. With manufacturers throughout Australia and New Zealand, and distributers and agents in every state and territory, Decor Blinds can offer a premium product in a very
fast turnaround time, thus providing its customers with a tremendous advantage over imported shutters, which can take up to 12 weeks to be delivered. The Australian made Thermalite shutters give the industry an opportunity to sell shutters for an extra eight weeks each year because of the continuous manufacturing time, thus improving the bottom line for everyone. The ability to install shutters in a timely period is a great selling point and supports continuous cash ow. Decor Blinds Australia has opportunities for manufacturers and agents who would like to sell Australian made shutters. It offers strong support and exclusive territories and provides all the marketing support to complete the package.

LIVING IN A CONNECTED WORLD
W
e live in an increasingly connected world. We connect with our businesses and families via mobile phones and social media, through accounting systems such as Xero and via the web itself – an unbelievable bank of information. We benefit from this connectivity daily, so why aren’t retailers connected to their wholesalers? With BUZ, they can be.
As the world gets smaller, so are the processes required to order a product to be custom-made with BUZ’s help. BUZ has recently released its BUZ 2 BUZ module, connecting retailers with their wholesalers/ manufacturers. It’s available to anyone using BUZ. There are no special licences required or extra charges.
30
42831_3 Buz ADV.indd 30
26/04/16 2:17 PM
WHAT IS BUZ 2 BUZ? It’s a ground-breaking system whereby retailers can connect to wholesalers/ manufacturers via BUZ, sharing the wholesaler’s or manufacturer’s product information and specifications, fabric ranges and pricing directly with the retailer. The retailer can then add on their percentage mark-up and use this information for ordering in the homes and businesses of their own customers. Retailers do not need to add in any information, pricing, fabrics or even an order form. Once the quote is accepted, they simply click ‘Send to Supplier’ and it goes directly to the wholesaler. Using BUZ 2 BUZ, retailers can be 100 percent sure they have the most up-to-date pricing, materials and inclusions the wholesaler/manufacturer has to offer. As BUZ passes information through to the retailer, this is always updated with any changes the wholesaler/manufacturer is making in real time. The price passed to the retailer is their cost price, and the markup is applied to get the retail price, making P&L reporting more accurate. Wholesalers/manufacturers benefit substantially using BUZ 2 BUZ. Orders placed via the ‘Send to Supplier’ function are processed more quickly with less transposition errors and therefore fewer mistakes. All orders in BUZ can produce an order form or cut sheet for the factory with your deductions on them. If orders are arriving via BUZ, you simply have to open them, select Print and you have what the factory/supplier needs. If you have a tablet, laptop or computer in the factory, you don’t even need to print a cut sheet. BUZ 2 BUZ is changing the way retailers and wholesalers/manufacturers come together. We are creating disruption in the industry. Disruption, as described by Forbes.com, is “literally uprooting and changing how we think, behave, do business, learn and go about our dayto-day”. We’re taking it to the next level. Be part of the shift to a more efficient, progressive way of doing business. BUZ Software’s many modules take you from the lead through to your account package seamlessly. As a SuperExpo special offer, sign up at the show (or before the end of June 2016) and receive three Standard Users for the price of two for the first six months.

TOSO AUSTRALIA
T
OSO is well-known in the Australian market for its premium Mytec roller blind system, but less well-known is the fact that TOSO was first established in Japan in 1949 as a manufacturer of curtain tracks. Since that time it has maintained its position as ‘number one’ in the Japanese market and never fails to provide constantly evolving designs, new functions and a wide selection of products. There has been a noticeable trend back towards curtains, where before roller blinds and shutters led the way. There are now more textile options for curtains and this is giving both the consumer and interior designers the opportunity to use their creative flair to use this as their preferred window furnishing solution. There also has been a noticeable trend towards the motorisation of curtain tracks, not just for high-end homes and hotels, but in everyday family homes too. Also, rather than just one motorised track being requested, as they become more affordable, they are now being installed in multiples, with the public becoming increasingly aware that motorisation can extend the lifespan of the curtain, as it can avoid damage caused by cords and manual operation. As a result of this, and knowing that the new TOSO system can fill a gap in the market, due to its ultra-quiet operation, along with smooth operation even when drawn by hand, TOSO has decided to launch the new TOSO Ti-8040 motorised curtain track at SuperExpo. The track has recently been issued its Regulatory Compliance Mark
The Touch Motion function enables the opening/ closing of the curtains without using any switch operations. If the curtain is drawn, it will begin to move in the direction pulled, and will stop at the place on the limit set up.
(RCM) for both motor and remote. This was previously known as the C-Tick, which all motorised systems require if they are to be sold in the Australian/NZ market. The super silent TOSO Ti-8040, with its highly durable belt drive transmission system, has a built-in FM remote control receiver, along with a Touch Motion function that enables the opening/closing of the curtains without using any switch operations. If the curtain is drawn, it will begin to move in the direction pulled, and will stop at the place on the limit set up. Along with its motor operation, it can also be drawn by hand. Due to its built-in electromagnetic clutch, it can still be operated by hand even when no power is available or when a user is unaware that it’s a motorised track, with no damage to the motor limits
or curtain heading – a big benefit in a hotel situation. Operating the curtain by hand is so light you’d think it was just a normal manual curtain track when opening or closing the curtain. This motorised track will also be the quietest available in the market, with the noise level under 40 decibels. This is compared to most motorised curtain tracks, which are between 44 and 50 decibels. It is able to do widths of 10 metres with a 40-kilogram carrying capacity. The decibels are worked on a logarithmic scale and a three-decibel difference is a doubling of the amount of sound energy. In layman’s terms it’s about ‘one notch’ on a volume control, and six to 10 decibels is generally said to be a subjective doubling of volume, so this is a considerable improvement on other systems currently in the market.

THE NOLAN GROUP: PUTTING THE PIECES TOGETHER FOR THE PERFECT FIT
T
he Nolan Group is a newly formed partnership between Nolan.UDA and Radins Australia. The partnership is based on significant synergies between these two established Australian companies with over 200 years of combined industry experience. Both companies are renowned for their technical knowledge and experience in the field of commercial and industrial textiles. Much like a puzzle, the combined entity of the Nolan Group brings the pieces together to provide enhanced service and a comprehensive product offering that is sourced from world leading manufacturers both within Australia and abroad. Some of the pieces, or product divisions, include the following… One of the growing sectors in the textile industry is blinds and awnings and this current trend for outdoor
living provides an exciting opportunity for growth. At present this market offers new and innovative solutions to allow consumers to get the most out of the outdoors. Our combined offering includes renowned brands such as Hunter Douglas, Mansel, Atlantic
and Elegance for internal window furnishings and Horizon and Vistaweave for outdoor blind mesh. In addition to this, the Nolan Group is a proud distributor of the industry renowned Ziptrak® track-guided blind system and the internationally prominent Sunbrella acrylic fabric for outdoor awnings. When fabric is used in tensioned structures, it forms the integral part of the support system. This provides the ability to exploit design freedom through the elegance and natural response of fabrics under tension. The Nolan Group is the proud Australian distributor of both the Polyfab commercial shadecloth collection and the Polyplan range of architectural fabrics. Both products provide a functional and stylish solution for outdoor structures. When it comes to marine fabrication, we understand and appreciate the demands placed on a textile in the marine industry. It’s a challenging task for a fabricator to ensure they select the appropriate fabrics that meet the required criteria for exposure to the elements, desired look and feel, canopy design and of course, budget. Enjoy quality, performance and style, all from one reliable supplier. The Nolan Group is proud to supply a range of high quality and iconic marine fabrics, fittings and accessories. These products have been proven countless times, making them the ideal option for the harsh Australian elements. We’re excited to be presenting the full puzzle at SuperExpo2016 and we’re confident that it will once again be a fantastic event. Make sure you pop by trade stand number L199 and meet the team.

THE SPECIALISED TEXTILES ASSOCIATION
S
eventy-five years in the making, the Specialised Textiles Association (as we are known today) has had a rich history, which has included a few name changes along the way. While in the process of changing our name to reflect our current member base, we drew from our past in order to shape our future. Change is inevitable. The industry of which we are a part, along with the many sectors we represent, has evolved over time, is adapting and moving to the next stage. We, as an Association, are no exception and have been doing the same thing for a long time now in order to maintain relevance. Over time, no matter what our name, our mission has remained unchanged: • provide a platform for members to enhance and strengthen opportunities for success. So, how do we deliver on our mission? We do this by: • promoting and continuing development of our industry • advancing to the highest efficiency methods of manufacture, distribution, utilisation and sales employed in the industry • promoting closer relations and cordial cooperation in all sectors of the industry • providing opportunities for education
for members, their employees and others interested in the industry • developing public relations, both within the industry and with the general public, so that the objectives and achievements of the industry and of the Association may be better understood and appreciated, and • communicating with a wider audience through the publication of an industry relevant magazine, newsletters, bulletins and leaflets. Several activities and programs have been put in place in order to ensure that the above objectives are met. Through the many programs in which we have invested, Business Accreditation is the platform that will enable us to define the standards required by both individuals and businesses operating in our industry. It is critical that the products and services our members make and provide to their customers meet required standards of quality, safety and reliability. Stage one of the Business Accreditation program was released in 2015 with stage two expected to roll out in early 2017. It is in stage two that we will be communicating with the consumer, promoting Accredited members and raising the profile of the industry.
Training and education will also form an important part of stage two of the Business Accreditation program. Our involvement in the training arena and close relationship with training institutions and skills councils has enabled us to ensure that apprenticeship/traineeship qualifications are relevant for the future and are advanced enough for the younger generation to join our industry. The Business Accreditation program, Annual Awards for Excellence, consumer reach and training enable us to progress to a stage where we are able to lay the foundations for a secure and long-term industry future. As an Association we are unique as we represent many industry sectors, rather than just one and yet we have been able to ensure that all areas of our industry have a voice – no matter how large or small. Joining an industry association provides opportunity for growth in the industry in which your business is involved. Who is representing your interests? Who speaks for the industry your business is a part of?

ntroducing Commercial Heavy 430 Architectural Shade Fabric designed in Australia and manufactured specifically for large-scale tension structures. This new, heavy-duty fabric from Gale Pacific was engineered using 100 percent round monofilament and exhibits exceptional strength and durability due to a unique weave pattern. It features industry-leading biaxial stability, which results in a greatly reduced need for re-tensioning once installed. Commercial Heavy 430 also features up to 94 percent UVR block, making it not only the strongest shade fabric on the market, but also one that offers some of the highest levels of UV protection.
STRENGTH With unparalleled biaxial strength Commercial Heavy 430 is in a class of its own. Engineered by Gale Pacific for maximum resistance to extreme weather conditions such as cyclone prone areas. DURABILITY Commercial Heavy 430 also features exceptional durability – after all, it was designed by Australians to withstand the harsh Australian climate. We’re so confident in the durability of this fabric that we honour it with a 15-year warranty against UV degradation. STABILITY Knitted with monofilament yarn across both the warp and weft, Commercial

HUNTER DOUGLAS: NEW CHILD SAFETY INNOVATIONS
T
he area of child-safe window coverings has been a major focus for the window coverings industry with stringent measures being put into place for corded internal window covering products. Hunter Douglas has placed a key emphasis on incorporating technology and innovative operating options to develop a range of child-safe window coverings that eliminate the need for cords and chains, as well as the risk associated with corded blinds. “Whisper Cellular Shades already have fantastic child safe operating options,” says Diana Altiparmakova, Hunter Douglas senior product manager. “Whisper CordLess, as its name suggests, features no cords and is simply operated by moving the rail to the desired position on the window with your hands. It’s a complete childsafe solution and the absence of any unsightly cords makes for a better aesthetic presence on the window.” Hunter Douglas has now taken Whisper Cellular Shades one step further with the introduction of SmartMotion, launching at SuperExpo 2016. “Motorising your blind has always
been one of the best ways to ensure your blind is child-safe, but the cost associated with this in regards to electricians, can make this option too prohibitive for many families,” says Altiparmakova. “Whisper SmartMotion is a battery operated solution, which provides all of the convenience of operating your shade or a group of shades simultaneously at the press of a button, but none of the costs associated with an electrician. It’s great for the installer as well, as there is no need to try and coordinate installation timing with an electrician.” “The SmartMotion system features quiet operation and is easy to maintain. It can be powered by the slim-line battery wand with standard AA Alkaline batteries, which homeowners can easily replace themselves or, as an alternative, can be powered via the DC power supply, which simply plugs into a standard power supply outlet.” Hunter Douglas will be showcasing its child safety innovations on its stand at this year’s SuperExpo. Visit the stand for more information.

RECYCLING BRINGS NEW LIFE TO FLEXIBLE CROP STORAGE A collaborative project will save our environment from tonnes of agricultural tarpaulins heading to landfill.
F
lexible tarpaulins are used across Australia for crop storage, animal shelters and greenhouses among many other applications – and have become a part of the contemporary agricultural landscape. Unfortunately, this heavy plastic has a limited lifespan and has been making an impact on landfill volumes. In conjunction with research institutions and domestic recycling facilities, Gale Pacific has developed a new route to fully recycle and reuse tarp materials for the same purpose, instead of sending to landfill. Used grain tarps are collected from sites along Australia’s east coast and sent to recycling facilities where they are transformed into pellets and sent to Gale Pacific’s unique extrusion coating plant in Melbourne to convert into ‘new generation’ Landmark Recycled grain tarpaulins. Since inventing high-density polyethylene storage and shading fabrics in the 1970s, Gale Pacific has established global consumer and
industrial markets with manufacturing plants in both China and Australia. The collaborative project supports manufacturing in Australia with the increase in demand for recycled grain tarps leading to improved job security for local manufacturing.
It is estimated that up to 1000 tonnes of waste grain tarps have been going to landfill each year – along Australia’s east coast alone. This initiative makes a positive difference in alleviating the pressures on landfill sites across Australia.

SILENT SHADE INNOVATIVE WINDOW FURNISHING HARDWARE DESIGN 3D printing is the future
W
hen we first discovered 3D printing, we instantly knew it was magical. 3D printing technology is the future: layer by layer, we can now build a prototype overnight. It has empowered us, freeing us from the constraints of traditional manufacturing. The speed at which we are now capable of developing new ideas with 3D printing technology is invaluable. We have a serious focus on innovation and the new technology enables us to design, create and test our ideas ourselves, without the need of dozens of engineers and technicians. Our very first design task was to create a universal child safety device. It had to incorporate the safety requirements outlined in the legislation,
but we also tasked ourselves with it being a one-piece part. It needed to have the capability to be face fitted without twisting the chain, reveal fitted without compromising the fabric, base fitted for floor mounted curtain cords and be aesthetically pleasing. Over 40 prototypes were printed and tested before the product was finalised. We affectionately call it the HERO. ‘Designed for safety, install a HERO’ is its motto and we are proud to release the HERO for sale at SuperExpo2016. The timing of SuperExpo2016 has enabled us to showcase our latest products, including the release of our external blind guide, hold down and cable tensioning system, the MDock. The system is designed to accompany
manufacturers’ existing products and is compatible with most drop awnings on the market. MDock provides manufacturers with various options due to its unique modular design, simplified cable management, easy guide adjustment, magnetic fabric tensioning that doesn’t require specialised motorisation to operate. The MDock, like our other products, was designed by us and prototyped with our 3D printing. We know how frustrating it can be to have an idea and not know what to do with it. This is why Silent Shade offers its services to businesses wanting to bring their ideas to fruition. Contact us at tony@silentshade.com.au or visit us at booth E58.

TELECO AUTOMATION
I
t’s no secret that Aussies love the outdoors. In fact, companies that offer outdoor roofing solutions – be they shade sails or awnings, or fixed, retractable or louvre roofs – succeed and thrive because those outdoorloving Aussies want to spend more time outside. Customers motorise and automate their shade coverings to get the best use out of their new outdoor living areas. Imagine how pleased and eager they will be when they find out that you, their solution provider, can incorporate not only the motorisation and automation of the shade device, but also a bespoke lighting solution to be controlled from the same remote control. Furthermore, for when the evenings get cooler, an outdoor heating solution can be also be incorporated on the same remote control. So too can water features, garden lighting, screen blinds and even a Bluetooth audio system.
Since 1996, Teleco Automation (Italy) has been supplying remote controlled solutions for both indoor and outdoor electric devices to some of the largest manufacturers and suppliers in Europe. Teleco Automation Oceania was established in 2015. Based on the Gold Coast, we stock and supply remote control, smart device and lighting solutions for umbrellas, retractable roofs, folding arm awnings, shade sails, patios and pergolas. The Teleco Inlumina range of 24-volt plug and play lighting solutions makes installation a simple and profitable exercise for anyone involved in this market. We are actively seeking retail partners for our marketing program – if this may be you, we’d love to meet you. Come say hi to Mark and the guys from Italy on Stand M241, or contact us after the show to enquire.

ZIPTRAK PTY LTD
A
s a Silver Sponsor, Ziptrak Pty Ltd will showcase a range of new product enhancements at its brand new stand during SuperExpo2016. Highlights include the new six-metre width, aluminium pelmet, Ziptrak Interior system and marketing support initiatives. A sense of invention and innovation has never been lost at Ziptrak Pty Ltd, proven by the release of many product enhancements over the past few years. Marc de Maaijer, general manager, explains the company’s team has been busy with continual research and development, responding to feedback from resellers and customers.
“As a family-owned and operated 100 percent Australian business, we have a proud 15-year history of developing the Ziptrak system into what people love today. Over this time, we’ve formed many great connections with local business owners around Australia. These relationships ensure Ziptrak leads the category by working diligently to bring a robust and highquality solution to market based upon customer feedback.” In February 2016, Ziptrak Pty Ltd unveiled its new six-metre wide blinds, which allow retailers to offer solutions for large openings, with the confidence of a strong and easy-to-operate
product, backed by the trusted name in the industry, Ziptrak. “The new Heavy Duty Bottom Bar is visually similar to the Standard Bottom Bar, but 50 percent stronger and is conveniently compatible with all existing components, including the Centre-Lock-Release system,” says de Maaijer. Ziptrak is also exhibiting its Ziptrak Interior system, a slim and subtle track-guided blind system for the interior window furnishing market. “The result is a remarkably unobtrusive form, with timeless simplicity, worthy of its presence within a home. The blind provides practically weightless finger-touch operation, can be left at any height, does not require cords or chains, and provides total block out. The Ziptrak Interior product is targeted for both commercial and residential use for a range of applications that require complete light control, minimalist design and premium insulation properties,” explains de Maaijer. “Although the competitive landscape has intensified, hundreds of retailers around the country exclusively trust Ziptrak. Our product enhancements not only make life easier for those utilising and installing our product, but provide our retailers and fabricators with a product that always has a competitive advantage in the market.”

Additionally, Ziptrak Pty Ltd is supporting resellers with new marketing initiatives such as its Find-a-Retailer search, allowing end customers to find their local Ziptrak retailer. Underpinned by investments in online and offline marketing, the system drives a high quantity and quality of leads directly to Ziptrak retailers. “Our team strives to provide exceptional support to Ziptrak resellers, and the tools they need to provide consumers with a product that is loved and valued. We invite exhibition visitors to speak with us about our new marketing support program, Ziptrak Interior system and exciting product enhancements,” concludes de Maaijer.
