SUPEREXPO2019 – CHAIRMAN MESSAGE
A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF THE ORGANISING COMMITTEE, CHRIS NOLAN Dear industry colleague On Christmas Day last year, my wife and I hosted some of my extended family for lunch. We planned to do so beneath the beautiful and ancient coral tree that shades a large portion of our backyard. To augment this shade, I was despatched to Bunnings Warehouse to procure a market umbrella. To my absolute astonishment, I was able to procure a 2.5-square metre, folding outdoor umbrella for 35 Australian dollars! As the managing director of a textile importing company of nearly 100 years’ history, I knew that our team has a good knowledge of the international supply chain. As a curiosity, I asked them what would be the landed cost, from our cheapest source of supply, of a quality, UV stabilised, polyester fabric of similar colour and weight used in that umbrella. The answer was $13.15 per lineal metre for a 2.03-metre wide fabric. Now do the calculation yourself! Without any allowance for wastage, the quantity of material required to make that umbrella is 6.25 square metres. The cost of that material to us would be $40.48, that is 16 percent higher than the completed, made up and packaged article procured from Bunnings, which of course would have had its retail margin added! How can a local producer of umbrellas possibly compete with this, if he can’t even procure the raw material competitively? This example is typical of what is being faced by Australian manufacturers, particularly textile convertors, every day. What do we do to combat it? We use innovation, quality of manufacture and warranty supported by a proven relationship, to supply a premium finished product, quickly and efficiently to niche market customers. This is what over 100 of the successful businesses exhibiting at SuperExpo2019 have done. So, if you want to learn how to do it, or get new ideas that you can apply to your business, then attendance is a must! The SuperExpo is by far the largest awning and blind trade exhibition in Australia. It only happens every three years, and this will be the third time that it is being hosted jointly by the Blind Manufacturers’ Association of Australia (BMAA) and the Specialised Textiles Association (STA). The industry sectors represented are ranged across the full spectrum of ‘textile conversion’ and, while the main focus is, of course, blinds and awnings, other related products will also be promoted. For example, we have this year a contingent from the Marine Fabricators Association, the members of which will be undertaking a training workshop in conjunction with the exhibition. At SuperExpo2019, the long awaited ‘WincovER’ energy rating scheme will be unveiled, which without doubt will be of crucial interest to consumers and specifiers alike, and provides an opportunity to further differentiate Australian manufacturers. This project, patiently formulated over many years, is an example of the added value Associations offer their members. In 2019, the industry faces some challenging issues, such as political indecisiveness and uncertainty, depressed consumer sentiment and imports wreaking havoc with competitiveness. It is heartening then to see our industry leaders investing heavily in their stands and promotional activity, determined to put the industry, and their contribution to it, in the best possible light. Come and be part of it! Christopher Nolan Organising Committee Chairman

elcome to SuperExpo2019, Australia’s largest trade exhibition for the window furnishings and specialised textiles industries. The 2019 show is the third time that the Blind Manufacturers’ Association of Australia has partnered with the Specialised Textiles Association to hold the event, and we have returned once again to the fabulous Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre. Our shows have built a loyal following, with over 7000 square metres of exhibition space being sold out within three months of its release. Over 100 national companies will be exhibiting at what we believe is a world-class expo. Our shows are held every three years and are much anticipated by the industry. This is the biggest opportunity for our industry to gather together and we expect thousands of visitors to attend. The three-day trade-only event will feature impressive displays that will showcase the latest industry products and services. Visitors to the show will be able to meet with numerous industry suppliers all under one roof. Our exhibitions are a great opportunity to meet with current and potential customers. Visitors will be able to see the latest products and technology, see equipment in action with live demonstrations, attend a number of interesting and informative seminars, forge new business opportunities and network with peers. In addition to the exhibition floor, our exciting social program commences with drinks and refreshments at the Welcome Reception on Tuesday evening, and continues until the Grand Finale – the BMAA Gala Dinner – on Friday evening, 14 June. There are other social activities scheduled during the week, such as a Golf Day and the Awards for Excellence Ceremonial Dinner. Our social program is a time for visitors and exhibitors to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. I would like to sincerely thank the SuperExpo2019 sponsors for their support. Thank you to the organising committee and the project manager Brett Greene for putting the show together. I trust that everyone will have an enjoyable and successful SuperExpo 2019.

ear delegates and attendees of SuperExpo2019 It’s hard to believe three years have past since our last SuperExpo – but here we are again on the Gold Coast and, in a digital world, moving faster than ever. This event continues to grow in popularity and now we are completely filling the exhibition space of the Gold Coast Convention Centre. Our friends and event partners at BMAA are facing similar challenges to our members at STA, particularly in regards to: • ageing workforces • skills shortages • difficulty in attracting bright, young school leavers • increasing numbers of lower priced, prefabricated imported products, and • governments generating increasing compliance matters for local industry, while almost turning a blind eye to DIY sectors. The need to stay on top of fabricator training programs, lifting the profile of our Australian industry and implementing better marketing strategies to promote our membership resources has never been greater. As such, it’s vital that our associations involved with supporting Australian industries must be also continually evolving, and working together as closely as possible. We are delighted to be joining forces with BMAA in hosting the biggest SuperExpo ever – and we would like to thank all suppliers and sponsors for their increased commitments in supporting both of our associations with this event. We wish all visitors a wonderful and successful exhibition and look forward to catching up at the various events on offer. Best wishes for a great 2019. James Kelman STA President

ROLLEASE INNOVATION
R
ollease Acmeda has grown into an international, market-leading powerhouse. Its dedication to refinement and innovative design, coupled with a successful strategy, has enabled the company to deliver broad product choices, enhanced technologies and an exceptional level of service to its ever-growing customer base. Shifting with the dynamic market, the brand has evolved, unceasingly bringing to the industry a host of proprietary designs and on-trend products. From its ever-popular externals and Zipscreen range, to its motorisation solutions and internal hardware, it has been an influential force in the industry. AUTOMATE Now, launching at SuperExpo2019, Rollease Acmeda will be releasing its revolutionary new generation of motorisation. The new Automate range will include a redesigned remote, solar panel and Pulse hub, alongside an innovative, new wire-free motor range. Automate is set to make big waves in the industry, especially with its refreshed brand identity and focus on smart home motorisation for shades. The launch of the new Automate products comes at a time when consumers are increasingly more concerned about the energy efficiency, climate control, privacy and smart home integration of their window furnishings. As opposed to being viewed as simply a decorative piece of a home’s interior, they now stand as a key component of a home’s ecosystem. The new motor itself will be the slimmest Rollease Acmeda has ever offered. Completely wire-free and liion powered, the slimline motor head will lead the future of the company’s motorisation range. Conveniently concealing the once visible antenna cable, the innovative motor head shares dimensions with a manual clutch, allowing the motor to be easily retrofittable in multiple applications, all without the need of an electrician. Paired with the new li-ion motor, Rollease Acmeda will be launching
a completely redesigned Automate Solar Panel. The new panel will have a minimal look and feel, coupled with better power conversion, better performance in low light environments and overall increased efficiency, in a slimmer and less obtrusive design. The second generation of the Pulse hub, the ‘Pulse 2’ will also make an appearance at the show and brings with it a whole new suite of integrations, including Apple Homekit. EXTERNALS Rollease Acmeda’s stand at SuperExpo will also feature its extremely popular Zipscreen range, along with the launch of its new Ultra-lock. The Ultra-lock has been eagerly anticipated, as this innovation will allow the lock to be integrated directly into the side channels, keeping the latch hidden, and the overall aesthetic of the shade to remain clean and modern. Displayed at the show, will also be the uniquely designed Feng folding arm awning – Rollease Acmeda’s new flagship awning. Featuring a beautifully designed, rounded aluminium enclosed cassette and the capacity to span an impressive 14 metres in width with a 3.5-metre projection, the awning is just as versatile as it is beautiful. Rollease Acmeda will also be launching its horizontal awning solution, which is new to the range.
The first of its kind for the company, Frame is a retractable roofing system, built to protect from sun and rain. Concealing the fabric within a slim cassette, the Frame system attaches to existing conservatories and pergolas to create an enclosed area and provides complete protection from the rain. The Frame can be mounted horizontally or vertically and can be pitched to sizes up to six by six metres. CHILD SAFETY Rollease Acmeda has been one of the biggest advocates of a movement towards a completely child-safe window furnishing industry. Rollease Acmeda will be showcasing its Easy spring series and Aero chain-free at the 2019 expo. These chainless systems realise the company’s increasingly popular child safety suite. The entire suite of child-safe solutions will be on display at SuperExpo2019. Rollease Acmeda will be ensuring the products are spotlighted throughout the course of the event, adding dedicated staff to help educate those who attend the expo on exactly how its products function and why it is a key player in the child-safe category, as much as it is in every other category in the industry. Be sure to visit Rollease Acmeda at stand H117 at SuperExpo2019 to learn more about everything it has to offer.

HUNTER DOUGLAS: A STORY OF INNOVATION Arena Honeycomb Shades
I
n an increasingly fast-moving industry, innovation can bloom, as demonstrated by Hunter Douglas – a renowned market leader and pioneer in the window covering industry. “Since our establishment in 1953, there has always been a unique Hunter Douglas Australia way of working – a singular culture designed to deliver excellence,” says Tony Politis, managing director for Hunter Douglas Australia. “Our business has made significant investments and innovated our operations with the goal to provide our customers with the best quality products, delivered efficiently with a simplified service experience.” In addition to finding new and better ways to operate, the Hunter Douglas range of products has always been the company’s crowning glory. A well-established Australian textile manufacturer for over 30 continuous years, the team is not content to be stagnant and actively pursues continued advancement to not only meet, but exceed customer needs. Hunter Douglas product manager for
Fabrics, Patricia Seoudi, explains, “The textiles division is built on a wealth of experience, having developed and sourced innovative fabrics produced from best quality raw
materials locally and worldwide, but each season we evolve and push our know-how to the next level to do better for our customers.” The Hunter Douglas fabric swatches have had a facelift with the entire fabric range now sitting under the Turnils Collage brand. “We’re excited to be able to now package our fabric ranges under the Turnils Collage banner – an exciting new concept that we will be launching at SuperExpo2019,” continues Seoudi. Among the innovations on display at the Hunter Douglas stand, there will be an exclusive preview of a brand new external awning system, which is unparalleled in the Australian market. Visitors to the stand will be among the first in Australia to view demonstrations and find out more information about the system launching later in the year. “We’re incredibly excited to be able to feature the new awning system on our stand and have dedicated a large part of our space to really showcase the awning in all its glory,” says Vera Meharg, marketing communications manager. To see the latest range of Hunter Douglas internal window coverings and external awnings, visit stand H 121.

LUXAFLEX TAKES ANOTHER LEAP FORWARD
T
his year will see the Luxaflex Window Fashions Team take another leap forward in providing world-class service for both its dealers, and its customers. The Luxaflex Window Fashions Team is rolling out an exclusive installation service for its dealers. Meaning that skilled installers employed directly by the Luxaflex Team, can actively install the bespoke window coverings
on behalf of dealers – rather than having the individual business owners manage the installation themselves. This is the latest in a long line of premium benefits the Luxaflex Alliance Program offers. Set-up has been streamlined to be exceptionally easy, as the Luxaflex Team provide the retail showroom environment customised to each space. The brand also provides comprehensive marketing and business development support on an ongoing basis. This enables both seasoned veterans and industry newcomers to set themselves apart, regardless of business size. “Our exclusive training programs give our dealers the power to become
the most knowledgeable window coverings professional in their local market. From classroom and conference settings, to interactive online learning, there is a program to suit each individual’s needs,” explains Vera Meharg, marketing communications manager. Another strength for the brand is the range of innovative and exclusive products, such as Luxaflex PowerView Motorisation. So much more than just a motorisation system, it provides a cost-effective automation system for homeowners to control their shades throughout the day with a simple press of a button on the stylish Pebble Controller, the tap of a mobile device or by scheduling personalised settings that will activate automatically. PowerView is exclusive to Luxaflex Window Fashions, and available for distribution through the Luxaflex Window Fashions alliance programs: Gallery and Showcase. “We will have a range of our products on display at SuperExpo using PowerView Motorisation to demonstrate all of the exciting features,” says Meharg. In addition to PowerView Motorisation, the Luxaflex stand will feature many of the patented and exclusive products that were invented by the Hunter Douglas worldwide group, and available exclusively through the Australian Window Furnishings blind-maker, and Luxaflex Window Fashions brand. “We invite everyone to come and experience PowerView and our stunning range first-hand at SuperExpo2019 and explore the opportunities that exists for your future,” concludes Meharg. LIGHT AND SHADE
L
ouvre roofs, folding arm awnings, fabric roofs, retractable roofs – they all do a great job of creating shade and keeping the sun and heat out, but when the sun goes down, it gets dark under there very quickly. Low voltage LED lighting is the perfect solution. Using low voltage integrated LED lighting from Teleco Automation allows the installer to offer a one-stop-shop service to the end user, while offering great cost savings in the form of electrical costs. Teleco Automation has been servicing the louvre and awning market in Europe since the mid-nineties. Being able to grow and develop with the market has enabled the design of some ingenious solutions. Integrating LED lighting solutions in the shade structure is almost the norm in Europe nowadays. The ‘noticeable trend of LED lighting integration’ as witnessed at the
R&T exhibition this year is a testament to the wide acceptance of this concept in Europe. The integrated lighting offer from Teleco is fully dimmable, plug and play technology, and being 24 volts means it is totally safe while offering great brightness. The LEDs are designed and manufactured specifically for the industry, and so have a lot of added benefits for the installers. The boutique range of downlights is anodised to 20 microns, and they each have in and out cables, meaning they can be connected in a daisy chain formation. IP67 (Weatherproof) LED strip is available in warm white, cool white and RGB (Colour), and is perfect for creating that European ambiance in an outdoor setting. Easy to hide products like TubeLite and TVStick make it super easy to
connect, control and dim all types of LED lighting. Utilising Teleco to control the lights, blinds and roof motors has the added benefit of allowing the end user to integrate more of their outdoor area electrics into the one system. One remote is all that is required to control all their garden lights, water feature pumps, heating and audio. Smartphone integration via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi is also available. Heating, while not a necessity in some parts of Australia, is beneficial for homeowners in cooler climate regions. Teleco heater controllers allow a homeowner to wirelessly control the temperature as well as the lighting, while providng café and restaurant owners with the ability to offer their clients a more comfortable dining experience and potentially save running cost money by dimming the heat output.

BLIND MANUFACTURERS’ ASSOCIATION OF AUSTRALIA
W
hat you maybe didn’t know about the BMAA. We are the voice needed to really make a difference. The BMAA is the voice of the window covering industry. It’s really as simple as this. We are a group of your peers who understand our industry totally and care enough about the industry to give up our valuable time to attempt to steer the industry through the seas of government rules and regulations for the benefit of all of us. Do I have your attention yet? Our industry has been very good to many of us. I know it has been good to me and my family. It has allowed us to work hard in an industry we love and has rewarded us well. In fact, the harder we worked, the luckier we got. Have you heard this before? Without a strong industry, none of this is possible. None of us owns our industry. We all contribute to our industry continuance and we all benefit from our industry largess. It has always been this way. Our industry has a life of its own and we are lucky enough to spend a small amount of time as temporary custodians of our industry. Spend the time wisely. So what do we at BMAA do? I am listing here a few of the major things that the BMAA concerns itself with for your consideration: • Child safety… an ongoing matter. • Promotion of Australian manufacturers. While contentious, the BMAA does everything within its power to promote Australian manufacturers. We certainly need numbers to achieve this.
•
Code of Ethics. We provide a code of ethics for our members to work by. It’s a good guideline and something the public can trust. • Dispute resolution. The BMAA is able to supply dispute resolution in matters where a manufacturer has a problem with a client. • Energy Rating Scheme. WincovER will become this committee’s major achievement. It is an enormous undertaking and the goalposts have moved many times along the way, but the end is in sight! This will be a major achievement for BMAA and will provide an invaluable tool for Australian manufacturers to use as a sales aid. • Networking opportunity. BMAA membership provides a unique forum to come together with industry contemporaries. • Lobbying. An association to lobby government on our behalf. • Industry training. Participate in the certified training scheme that is getting very positive results and reviews among our peers. • Website. BMAA has developed a new website that is aimed at providing lots of information for both the public and the industry. • Industry recognition. BMAA has developed an industry recognition scheme for its members, so that the public know that they are dealing with a reputable company. There are many other things, but these are just a few that I have listed. As you look around SuperExpo2019, you may wonder how it has been
achieved. I can tell you – by an incredible amount of work done by a small dedicated group and these people just keep giving. A particular thanks to Chris Nolan, chair of the SuperExpo Committee. Without Chris, it would not be possible. Our president Joe Turner provides wise counsel and a calm demeanour to guide us through the difficult times. The BMAA does a very good job for the industry and has the industry’s best interests at heart. Our association has a committed board of directors, who work without vested interest and listen to the members. BMAA has an outstanding record of successful negotiations on behalf of its members. If you aren’t yet a member, discover the benefits for yourself now… Visit www.bmaa.net.au for further details and an application form. WINCOVER, THE BMAA ENERGY RATING SCHEME – SEMINAR DURING SUPEREXPO 2019 WincovER, the BMAA Energy Rating Scheme is a rating system that compares the energy efficiency performance of different materials used to create shading layers, and includes internal and external window coverings. Designed for the Australian built environment, it has been scientifically developed in cooperation with the leading authorities in this field. Come along and hear about our WincovER at a free seminar to be held during SuperExpo. The seminar will be held on Thursday 13 June 2019 at 11am at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre, Broadbeach (meeting room 10).

DECOR BLINDS AUSTRALIA
D
ecor Blinds Australia has been manufacturing shutters in Australian for over 30 years and during this time has seen a number of changes, in both products and customer expectations In the 1980s all shutters were made in Australia using western red cedar and the required look was always natural timber in either light or dark tones. Then, approximately 20 years ago, the trend changed to having a white painted finish. The blinds were still manufactured in timber, but painted shades of white. The painted finish shutters allowed the manufacturers to look at alternative materials other than western red cedar, as cedar was becoming very expensive and very labour intensive.
At the same time, the popularity and demand for shutters increased and Decor Blinds Australia shifted its focus from western red cedar to Thermalite shutters, introducing them to the Australian market. Thermalite shutters were originally developed and made in the US and today they are still the largest selling shutter made in the US. Thermalite shutters have now also become the biggest selling Australian made shutter over the past 20 years. No other company can manufacture and deliver planation shutters as quickly as Decor Blinds Australia, while at the same time supplying a quality product second to none. With manufacturers throughout Australia and New Zealand, and distributers and agents in every state and territory, Decor Blinds
can offer a premium product in a very fast turnaround time, providing its customers with a tremendous advantage over imported shutters, which can take up to 12 weeks to be delivered. The continuous manufacturing time means the industry is able to sell the Australian made Thermalite shutters for an extra eight weeks each year, thus improving the bottom line for everyone. The ability to install shutters in a timely period is a great selling point and supports continual cash flow. Decor Blinds Australia has opportunities for manufacturers and agents who wish to sell Australian made shutters, while offering strong support and exclusive territories, and providing all the marketing support to complete the package.

From the playground to your house and all the way to the ocean, Ricky has it all. There are so many new and exciting things being released that you must stop by the stand to ensure that you don’t miss a thing.
SHADE AND TENSILE ARCHITECTURE (TA) Ricky shade fabrics can be used for shade sails and structures at various locations, including but not limited to car parks, playgrounds, theme parks, swimming pools, sporting areas, schools and council recreation areas. Did you know that a percentage of sales from all Ricky Richards Sun
Control fabrics is donated to Melanoma Institute Australia (MIA)? These funds support vital research and helps MIA reach its goal of zero deaths from melanoma. MARINE Ricky is excited to announce that it now offers a complete range of marine fabrics. Jetty – 100 percent solution dyed polyester, Jetty is waterproof, UV stabilised and ideal for outdoor umbrellas and all marine projects. Supported by a five-year warranty and available in 10 colours, ensuring there is an option right for everyone. Glacier – this is a clear PVC ideal for applications that require light transmission, weather protection and clear visibility. Docril Nautica – with all the same features as the Docril collection in the Sun Control division, Docril Nautica offers a waterproof solution dyed acrylic option for all marine projects. Nautica’s excellent water-based polyurethane
coating presents as a much cleaner alternative to most other waterproof acrylics and polyesters, which use more traditional solvent-based polyurethane coatings. Docril Binding – with 18 colours to choose from, this binding tape is used for aesthetic purposes in creating a finished edge on the fabric used for marine projects or awnings. Lastly, the team at Ricky have designed the 2019 stand using their very own printable decorative indoor products. The stand features worldwide brands, including Bild Flooring, Samba, Pongs Germany and the unique selfadhesive window textile Squid. These products are all exclusively distributed by Ricky across Australia. So, while you are at SuperExpo, remember to visit the Ricky stand: L216. At this destination, you’ll be taken on a journey through textiles, have the chance to talk to the experts themselves and find out all about the new and existing portfolio of fabrics that Ricky Richards proudly supplies.

ONE TRACK MIND
I
n a market crowded with outdoor blind and system options, one solution is proving itself to be the clear leader: Urban Track. Aussies have always loved their backyards. The days of the Hills Hoist taking centre stage have moved aside and backyards have become a retreat, an extension of the indoors, a place to enjoy endless summer nights around the barbecue and cool winter evenings warming up around a fire. From market umbrellas and shade sails to pergolas and patios, there are myriad ways to make the most of backyard spaces. Track guided blind systems are becoming increasingly popular to enclose outdoor spaces and maximise living areas and, with several options available, one system is establishing itself as the premier choice for functionality, aesthetics and cost-effectiveness.
Urban Track external track guided blind system was designed and developed in Australia to ensure superior performance under the harsh conditions. Providing all season climate control, Urban Track is an easy-to-use, smart, slimline tracking system that helps you save on energy bills. Urban Track is a sturdy system, with components made from aluminium and stainless steel so they won’t rust, and plastic components that are fibreglass infused for greater strength and UV resistance. Available in three types of operation, Urban Track blinds can be locked off in any position, and the crank and spring operated systems are available with a unique, patented central locking system. Choosing a fabric to work with your Urban Track system is just as important as choosing the right
track guided blind system. Popular choices include Prime Clear PVC, providing complete protection from the elements, Atmosphere screen mesh and the newly released Starscreen fabric. All of this will be on display at The Shann Group booth, L221, at SuperExpo, as well as stunning internal blockout blind fabrics and screen ranges, new Tempotest colour collection, VALMEX structure fabrics, canvas and industrial fabrics, and more. Join our product experts and international guests appearing daily, and view our displays and demonstrations created to introduce you to these latest releases, assisting you to grow your business and better your product offer. DICKSON TO RELEASE A FIRE-RESISTANT AWNING FABRIC FOR PUBLIC BUILDINGS
S
PARK FR is a professional awning fabric to meet fire regulation requirements. Fulfilling fireproofing standard, SPARK FR is manufactured using fibres that are fire-resistant to their core, ensuring maximum safety. This high standard of safety makes SPARK FR the fabric of reference for cafés and restaurants, as well as hotels and hospitals. In addition to its technical pluspoints, SPARK FR boasts unrivalled good looks. Available in a range of nine highly contemporary solid shades, SPARK FR is designed to fit seamlessly
within the visual identity of any modern awnings. An advantage due not least to the fact that the fibre is produced in warm air, making it gentler to the touch and giving it a feel similar to that of cotton. SPARK FR is also the ideal solution for any professional looking for premium, long-lasting quality. Woven from 100 percent solution-dyed polyester, the fabric is coated on one side to ensure perfect performance when exposed to the weather and maximum waterproofing. UV-absorbers added to the fibre increase the physical resistance of the fibre and help it stand
up to exposure to UV radiation. SPARK FR comes with a five-year guarantee. Woven from an innovative fibre resulting from the latest technological advances and benefiting from all the know-how of Dickson Constant, SPARK FR is ideally suited to your needs, offering: • optimal protection against external elements (sun, rain) • excellent fade resistance over time through the use of a highly resistant solution dyed fibre, and • a fire certification in accordance with the main standards in force worldwide.

THE MARK OF QUALITY: MARKET MAKERS’ EXPANDED SHEER ELEGANCE RANGE
F
ounded by Harry Phipps in 1991 and now run by son Sam and nephew Josh, Market Makers has truly made its mark in window furnishings. In fact the Phipps family have been in the window furnishings industry since 1968. Based in Smeaton Grange in south-west Sydney, the company supplies a wide range of products to customers around the world, including Sheer Elegance, a unique range of blinds that combines opaque and mesh fabric, creating double layered blinds to allow both light penetration and privacy. “Sheer Elegance was introduced as a premium option for soft window furnishings, and is our preferred solution when a customer requires a lightweight covering, both aesthetically and physically,” says managing director Joshua Phipps. “It is also a fantastic
alternative to a double roller blind. This blind combines two alternating fabric panes on one roll, allowing the user to create their ideal level of privacy and light in just one blind. “The range was first discovered by the late Harry, who found the product in Korea in 2004 and subsequently took it all around the world. Now with our broadened range in 2019, it’s safe to say this product is here to stay. It’s just proof that Market Makers truly is the leader in innovation and dedicated to its products.” Last year, Market Makers’ expanded its range from 33 colours and textures over five categories, to now offering 91 colours and textures across 12 categories, almost tripling the options previously available. “The new introductions to the Sheer Elegance range will provide one of the
largest selections of colours, textures and accessories,” says Phipps. “As always, the blinds will be available in translucent and blockout options.” Features and benefits of the blinds include: • can be completely open or closed, or rotated to allow viewing between the panes • minimum width of 300mm to a maximum width of 2700mm (depending on the range) • minimum drop of 450mm to a maximum drop of 3700mm (depending on the range) • nine standard cord lengths available • five control chain colours and four cassette and bottom rail colours available, and • motorisation available. “We are excited to showcase our updated beautiful Sheer Elegance range at this year’s SuperExpo, along with our other top quality products including plantation shutters, honeycomb blinds and illusion blinds,” says Phipps. www.marketmakers.net.au

HEROAL SECURITY ROLLER SHUTTER SYSTEMS
P
erfect protection for residential and commercial buildings… As a system provider for the entire building envelope, Heroal is interested in making it possible for people to live and work in a protected and safe environment. This refers to protection against natural forces such as bushfires or wind, but also to protect against burglars. The highquality system solutions from Heroal provide all this and much more. In itself, the stainless steel roller shutter is already an important product: it achieves the best results for burglar resistance and the highest category of protection against hurricanes in the US. This high-quality system includes various system solutions for the most demanding requirements. Besides wind and water, bushfires and protection from them play an important
role in Australia. Particularly hot and dry days with north winds bring with them severe bushfire dangers every year. Since 1851, Australian bushfires have caused an estimated cost of $1.6 billion – and that figure is rising. For this reason, all materials used in buildings in BAL Rated Areas must be certified to the relevant BAL requirements. Heroal is the only supplier on the Australian market to meet all requirements for roller shutter systems to be used as protection in Bushfire Attack Level – Flame Zone (‘BAL-FZ’). The system was tested according to the Australian standard AS1530.8.2 2007. To ensure that the Heroal Bushfire Protection System can withstand the strongest heat, fire and flying sparks, a roller shutter slat was developed from a stainless steel alloy, which is rolled and filled with a cast resin. In addition,
the guide rails and box system are reinforced with additional fire protection profiles. The Heroal Bushfire Protection System is a front-mounted system, can be motorised and controlled by a smartphone, and is suitable for new buildings and renovation projects. A UNIQUE SHUTTER SYSTEM FOR EVERY PROJECT The Heroal roller shutter systems stand out for their longevity and the almost unlimited scope for design. Thanks to the high-quality surface and two-layer thick coating, the systems are extremely weather-resistant and offer numerous design possibilities in almost all RAL colours, the colours of Les Couleurs Le Corbusier and the surface refinement Heroal SD. LIVING IN A CONNECTED WORLD
W
e live in an increasingly connected world. We connect with our businesses and families via mobile phones and social media, through accounting systems, such as Xero, and via the web itself – an unbelievable bank of information. We benefit from this connectivity daily, so why aren’t retailers connected to their wholesalers? With BUZ, they can be. With competition from other markets moving in, you need to find ways to make your business smarter. Going to customers’ homes to write up a quote can be time consuming, but then having to copy that to an order form is doubling up the work. With BUZ 2 BUZ you can send your orders directly to the supplier and get realtime updates on job tracking and dispatch statues. This saves you calling the supplier. What is BUZ 2 BUZ? It’s a ground-breaking system whereby retailers can connect to wholesalers and manufacturers via BUZ – sharing their product information and specifications, fabric ranges and pricing directly with the retailer. The retailer can then add on their own percentage mark-up and use this information for ordering in the homes and businesses of their own customers. Retailers do not need to add in any information, pricing or fabrics, or even an order form. Once the quote is accepted, they simply click ‘Send to Supplier’ and it goes directly to them. Using BUZ 2 BUZ, retailers can be 100 percent sure they have the most up-to-date pricing, materials and inclusions their supplier has to offer. As BUZ passes information through to the retailer, this is always updated with any changes the supplier is making in real time. The price passed to the retailer is their cost price, and the mark-up is applied to get the retail price, making P&L reporting more accurate. Wholesalers and manufacturers benefit substantially using BUZ 2 BUZ. Orders placed via the ‘Send to Supplier’ function are processed quicker with fewer transposition errors and therefore fewer mistakes. All orders in BUZ can produce an order form or cut sheet for the factory with your deductions on them. If orders are arriving via BUZ, you simply have to open them, select Print and you have what the factory needs. If you have a tablet, laptop or computer in the factory, you don’t even need to print a cut sheet. BUZ 2 BUZ is changing the way retailers, wholesalers and manufacturers come together. We are creating disruption in the industry. Disruption, as described by Forbes.com, is “literally uprooting and changing how we think, behave, do business, learn and go about our day-to-day”. We’re taking it to the next level. Be part of the shift to a more efficient, progressive way of doing business.

ith an average of 72 percent of heat gain in summer and heat loss in winter occurring through the windows of your home, creating and maintaining a comfortable internal temperature is difficult and costly. Constantly relying on cooling and heating systems to combat the heat gain and heat loss results in high energy use and high electricity costs. Inflector performs better than double-glazing at protecting homes from external heat. It will block up to 90 percent of harmful UV radiation and solar glare, protecting your furnishings while allowing natural light to enter and the outside view to still be enjoyed.

CROCI AUSTRALIA
S
tunning designs by Croci’s European supplier Gaviota will be on display at SuperExpo2019, offering market leading aesthetics, style and functionality, while being made from first grade materials that can be supplied with the frame only, offering a choice of canvas or mesh. The Zen patio system and the EOS roof system incorporate retractable covers and are remarkable pieces of engineering that provide shade from the sun and protection from the elements. The desire to achieve full sun, full shade or somewhere in between can be achieved manually or by means of remote control operation. The Outdoor roller screen offers shade and climate control with style. Designed in Europe, its interlocking track locks the screen tight, providing high velocity wind resistance. Offering daytime privacy, light control, shade factor, heat control and UV block,
the scratch- and water-resistant hightech woven mesh retracts neatly into a slimline extruded aluminium cassette head box. Adapting this superior shading system to a window or pergola allows the homeowner the ability to integrate indoor/outdoor living without compromising the view. The new Desert drop arm awning will also be showcased at SuperExpo2019. It is heavy duty spring loaded and can be
operated manually or motorised with a simple touch of a button. Meanwhile Croci’s aluminium roller shutters are suitable for domestic and commercial custom-made applications, as the product itself or as individual components. They are extruded cyclone-rated category D in Terrain Category 2, (University Of Western Australia) and they are bushfire rated to level BAL 40. Stand number: G93. www.croci.com.au

SLIDETRACK BLINDS
I
t has been six months now since Ozroll completed the acquisition of Slidetrack Blinds and transitioned manufacturing of the product range to Ozroll headquarters in Dry Creek, South Australia. Our initial venture into the outdoor blind market was sparked by enquiries for drive wheels to make our range of 12-volt motorisation compatible with external awnings. Over the next decade, we had many requests for the development of drive wheels and accessories to adapt to a range of different external blind axles and brackets. By 2016, the synergy was obvious between outdoor blinds and our core product, roller shutters. It was then that we began our search for a specific blind design to focus our R&D towards.
In 2017, we began working with Brian Zwar to combine our ODS with the locally produced Slidetrack outdoor blind. By early 2018 we were able to utilise our full range of 12-volt battery and Solar Drive Systems with his design. We took the combination to market as an assembled package and
that success created a momentum that led to the acquisition in August 2018. Meanwhile, we have assembled a product development team that is using customer feedback to look for any improvements we can make to further establish this product as the best on the market.

NICE ERA INN
S
creen and shade systems built using Nice Era Inn motorisation are the smart new choice for managing natural light in applications
ranging from hotels and office buildings to high-end homes. They’re smart for architects, interior designers and system fabricators because they allow you to delight clients in ways not possible until now. And they’re smart for building and homeowners because they provide
quieter, smoother operation at surprisingly competitive prices. The heart of Era Inn’s many advantages is Nice’s series of DCdriven tubular motors with integrated AC converters. They effortlessly spool and unwind virtually any window fabric while using up to two-thirds less energy than conventional AC motors. DCdriven Era Inn motors provide absolute speed, which keeps the hem bars in absolute alignment – no matter the variation in motor sizes or widths of the various shades in a given room. And the Slow start/Soft stop feature makes for the kind of smooth operation that leaves an astonishing impression on building owners, tenants and guests. The Nice Era Inn system’s obstacle detection smarts prevent would-be inglorious crashes into suitcases, boxes and other objects. Nice offers a wide range of control options, including touchless wall-mounted transmitters and elegantly designed remote control devices with intuitive graphic interfaces.

AERONAUT – LESS WASTE!
A
t Aeronaut we are dedicated to listening to what’s important to our customers and focused on finding reasonably priced, practical solutions. With the performance and reliability of our cutters exceeding market expectations, Aeronaut is focused on increasing productivity, enhancing automation and reducing waste. For many textile users, waste fabric is a huge expense, but with improved autonesting, waste can be easily and significantly reduced. With autonesting and Aeronaut’s machine vision systems for interactive nesting and fault avoidance, businesses can easily save enough fabric to pay for a cutting system several times over in a year. Inkjet heads have become an increasingly popular option for businesses that want faster, contactless labelling of patterns and marking.
Materials handling is another area that’s received a lot of attention and many cutting systems have been delivered where a complete cutting cycle from pulling fabric onto the vacuum table to returning it to the roll or ready to start another cycle is a single button press operation. Automation has become a part of even the smallest workshop. While the cost of
employing staff has increased, the price of automation has dropped. That, coupled with fabric savings and increased productivity, means automating can make sure that you won’t miss sales during the high output demands of busy times while keeping a lean workforce for the quieter times.

PRINTED BLINDS – A WHOLE NEW WORLD OF CUSTOMISATION THROUGH COLOUR AND DESIGN
W
hen you think of printing on blinds where does your mind go? What’s the first thing you think of? Perhaps it’s outdoor awnings and commercial branding, all those options that have a great place in the market, but aren’t really groundbreaking. Don’t get us wrong – they have great value, but where else can
printing on blinds take us? The answer is that it can go wherever you want it to and the more you think about it and the more creative you become, the more you can offer your customers and really stand out from the crowd. Why pull down a plain, boring black or charcoal outdoor blind? We all love black and charcoal, but what if you could be a lot more creative? What if you could create a beautiful, lush outdoor environment for your customer without having to wait for the hedges to grow to block out the neighbours, just by printing the scenery on the blinds? How about completely transforming an alfresco area for game day gatherings with the atmosphere of the footy oval printed on the blinds enclosing an outdoor kitchen and entertaining area? But indoors – that’s where this really starts to shine. Don’t be limited by the
same colours and colour schemes provided by fabric suppliers. Think about that designer you’ve always wanted to work with, whose patterns and designs you love, whose colours you love. Create something 100 percent customised – think custom colours, custom patterns, custom designs, photos, images, whatever you can think of, the options are endless. Break yourself out of the situation where you have to tell a customer what they have to choose from and let them tell you what they actually want and be able to give it to them, without compromise. Come and visit the Pinz stand to get a real taste of what is possible and start to expand your thinking about what you can offer your customers to give them a unique experience that they will want to tell their friends about. OMNI - a shutter story Amanda Mifsud has been selling window furnishings for over 15 years, having come from the services industry.
She started as a reseller of blinds
and shutters, sourcing wholesalers, selling to householders, and getting them installed. This was typical of the industry when the entry costs were low and the market for home improvements was starting to boom with reality TV and a conducive business environment. With her innate sense of style for colour and fabrics, and her ability to network and talk to people, Amanda was a natural in the industry. The business was doing well but it was still a sole trader. When Jennifer Mitchell (with a background in Sales, Marketing and management, and experience in the wholesale side of window furnishings) came on board, she promised Amanda to grow the business, which they have. And the retail business is today, a profitable, high volume seller of all types of window
extensively engineered shutter development
furnishings. But retailing was not enough for Amanda and Jennifer, and they recognised that the window furnishings industry was crying out for the next big thing. They had seen the rise and rise of the plantation shutter, the introduction of zebra transition blinds and the comeback of curtains. But all these ideas have come from overseas, even though Australia seems to take them on board and do them better. What Amanda and Jennifer wanted was something that would solve the problems of customers with shutters, and offer them something more. Being in retail and talking to customers/ end users all day and seeing how and where shutters were wanted, they knew that high taps in kitchen and bathrooms precluded shutters, and therefore they
And then there was the fundamental issue that plantation shutters look stylish and control the light better than blinds, but when you’ve paid for a view (it might be a view of the pool and the kids; it might be a view of the city or river), you end up with blades interfering with that view - wouldn’t it be a great if you could pull those blades out of the view, but in the stylish way of the shutter rather than the old fashioned venetian blinds. And, what if it could be motorised like blinds and be integrated with a home automation system, the next big wave. This was the germ of the idea, the start of a great business adventure. Lots of people have ideas, but few people have the foresight, energy and risk profile to transform it into reality. Amanda did, even if it was outside the comfort zone of retail, wholesale or sourcing a cheaper product. encouragement

people, IP, marketing and management to form the OMNI Shutter Systems company. OMNI is the prefix for “all” … things, forms, places. The Omni shutter is a category killer, it makes all conventional shutters look like landline telephones. The Omni shutter has a number of configurations that are being developed now (all with patent pending), and we are just starting on where this brand can go.
No longer do you need to sell a
window covering on commodity pricing; as the only one of its kind, the Omni shutter (in its various configurations) is the premium product for many residential situations.
Customers, once they see
the potential to enhance their lifestyle, will ask for the Omni shutter by name - it sells itself.
