WELCOME TO SOUTH AFRICA Welcome to a land where the sun shines golden and the blue skies stretch across the horizon. It’s a land where the welcoming nature of Ubuntu comes alive with warm smiles and helping hands. A place where you are not an outsider, but a welcomed guest and a part of our family. Where we are inspired to create a brighter tomorrow, inspired to find new opportunities and make the world a better place. It’s a land of adventure, of history stretching back to the first men to walk the earth. Where we celebrate our diversity and the myriad cultures that enrich our nation. Where memories are made from extraordinary moments every single day. Where heartfelt connections are made that last a lifetime. Where oceans meet and where the view around every corner can leave you breathless. Where five-star luxury and authentic experiences go hand in hand. Where the beat of world class cities meets the Big Five in all their splendour. We speak 11 languages, but feel with a single heart. We understand the small things that make a big difference. Be inspired by Mzansi.

DEEP BLUE Be the first to leave a footprint in the sand as the sun rises over a magnificent stretch of white shore and blue sea on one of South Africa’s 27 Blue Flag beaches.
The superb coastline stretches over 400 kilometres across two oceans and offers experiences you will never forget. Swim with great white sharks or friendly dolphins. Sip a sundowner as you watch the whales swim by or grab a towel and your sunglasses for a fun filled day of sea and sandcastles.
South Africa’s natural wetlands are world-renowned, not only for their ecological importance, but also for their immense beauty and host of wild animals, birds and the extraordinary people who protect them. In a single day, you could be lucky enough to see the ‘big seven’ – elephant, rhino, hippo, leopard, buffalo, sharks and whales.
And while you are wetting your toes in the waves or soaking up the sun, know you are welcome at any of the luxury accommodation venues, from large hotels and resorts to the more personal boutique bed and breakfasts dotted along the coastline. Leave your footprint in the sand Your footprints may wash out at the next tide, but the marks South Africa’s beaches and oceans will make on your soul will stay forever.

WELCOME TO GAUTENG The history of Gauteng is rooted in its origins as a gold rush region. Today, it is the commercial and industrial centre of South Africa and one of the wealthiest provinces on the continent. Its historical past also includes a pivotal role in the country’s struggle for freedom.
INTRODUCTION
DINING
The history of Gauteng can be traced back to the early 1800s, when

flurry of activity and exponential growth. Established in 1855 as the capital of the Boer (Dutch-speaking farmers) republic, it grew slowly and was highly regarded for its role in the South African War (1899 to 1902). This juxtaposition still exists today; while Johannesburg is called the ‘city of gold’ and retains its frenetic pace, Pretoria is referred to as the ‘Jacaranda city’ and exudes a more laid back vibe. West of Johannesburg, at the Sterkfontein Caves, some of the world’s oldest fossilised hominid remains have been discovered. ‘Mrs Ples’ and ‘Little Foot’ as the two million and three million-year-old fossils are known, bear testament to the fact that prehistoric man roamed this area long before the arrival of the European settlers.
More recently, Gauteng spearheaded the country’s fight for freedom. It was here that the spirit of democracy took hold, fuelling protests, demonstrations and a struggle that would eventually change the course of history. Gauteng’s role in building a new South Africa, filled with hope and promise, is one that is poignantly significant and will never be forgotten. Sophisticated dining

One of the best views of Johannesburg’s man-made splendour is from the restaurant terrace of the Westcliff Hotel. In the heart of the Sandton CBD, one of the country’s finest chefs, David Higgs, has taken sophisticated dining to a whole new level at the Radisson Blu Gautrain Hotel. Cube tasting kitchen in Parktown North offers an 18-course adventure in modernist fine dining Jozi style. Soweto’s Kliptown Hotel satisfies the appetites of the epicurean elite with its elegant take on township culinary classics.
SHOPPING Unquestionably one of South Africa’s top food and fashion spots is Sandton City, in Johannesburg. Among the largest shopping malls in southern Africa, here you’ll find Avenue des Champs-Élysées stores like Louise Vuitton, Dior, Yves St Laurent and Chanel, along with local fashion celebs like Marion and Lindie, David Tlale and Jenni Button. For lunch, it has to be the adjoining Nelson Mandela Square, where you can stretch out your legs (to show off your latest Louboutin platform pumps), and mull over whether to eat

as chef Daniel Leusch and his team. Big-ticket booze always follows the money, so raise a glass to good living in Gauteng at the Soweto Wine Festival, FNB Whisky Live Festival and the SA Brandy Festival. With a big economy comes big dreams, and there are numerous immigrant epicurean entrepreneurs who have come to make their fortune in the golden province. Whether it’s piri-piri infused Portuguese in Turffontien, more-ish Indian in Fordsburg, or the Pan-African perfection of Zemara in Pretoria, the food terroir of Gauteng is deliciously diverse.
In northern Johannesburg, within an 11-kilometre radius of Sandton, you’ll find even more must-visit places to shop for food and fashion. Hyde Park Corner, Rosebank Mall and the leisure and lifestyle precinct of Melrose Arch stock international clothing labels and funky local designers galore. Hungry shoppers will delight in Hyde Park Corner’s Asian-inspired, seafood and steakhouse restaurants, while Melrose Arch and Rosebank’s chic outdoor piazzas are adored by those who love to preen and be seen eating at upmarket franchise restaurants. Nearer to central Johannesburg, 44 Stanley Avenue is style-central for food- and fashion-seekers. Unusual clothing outlets with Africa inspired fashion go well with the selection of artisan bakeries and trendy outdoor cafés serving planet-friendly food

building on the strong heritage of the capital city and using it as sound basis for creating a society that embraces visitors from abroad and inspires them to invest in our country; presenting a clean, accessible city that connects easily with the rest of the world; and creating a memorable stay for tourists through the vibrancy of our city and the legacy of its past: City of Tshwane – igniting excellence in everything we do by being the best in what we do and represent.
DestiȼȯɂȷȽȼΎTshwane Tshwane covers 6 368 km² of Gauteng's 19 055 km². It stretches almost 121 km from east to west and 108 km from north to south making it the third-largest city in the world in terms of land area, after New York and Tokyo/Yokohama. The city has about 2,5 million residents.
Sport, arts and culture, research and development, industry, learning and the business of running the nation are all captured in the daily lives of the city's 2,5 million residents who make this city what it is. It is a city with a welcome as warm as its climate and, for very good reasons, was named the best host city for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™.
and head office of all the national government departments. The city is thus the heart of policy development which has changed and will continue to change the face of South Africa. The Union Buildings, the seat of government and site of presidential inaugurations, is Tshwane's most iconic landmark. There can be no doubt of their powerful status when one sees the majesty of the sandstone buildings watching over the city.
Dinokeng The recent incorporation of the Dinokeng and Metsweding areas into the Tshwane borders has provided Tshwane with an even larger tourism scope. This area includes various game lodges and game reserves such as the Jabali Game and Nature Reserve, Lama Lama Game Reserve, Bronkhorstspruit Dam Nature Reserve, the Cullinan Mining Museum, Sizanani Ndebele Cultural Village and the Nan Hua Buddhist Temple. Many of these products provide conference and accommodation facilities.

About Us The Soweto Hotel & Conference Centre is located in Kilptown, the heart of Soweto’s oldest community, on the historic Walter Sisulu Square of Dedication. It is the only four-star hotel in the sprawling township and understated elegance sets the tone. Themed to the history of the location, the smiling face of a young Nelson Mandela flanked by Albertina and Walter Sisulu welcomes guests from the walls of the reception area. The décor includes historic photographs by legendary SA photojournalists and the area’s famous jazz artists play on in the images while guests recline on locally handcrafted cushions and linen. The hotel sources staff from the surrounding area and all their fresh produce is purchased on the streets. The hotel has 46 Deluxe Standard Rooms and two Presidential Suites. Rooms are equipped with televisions, coffee and tea-making facilities, wireless connectivity, hairdryers and safes. Room service and dry-cleaning services are also available. Alongside the hotel lies the Kliptown Museum showcasing “The People Shall Govern” exhibition, dedicated to the events of 1955 when 3000 people gathered in the dusty square to adopt and sign the Freedom Charter, which is now the basis of SA’s Constitution. The Walter Sisulu Square has an incredible history and the architecture reflects various elements of the area, politics and the people. It is full of symbolism and meaning and is surrounded by the actual people who were involved in making history, thus making the rest of Kliptown an “ echo-museum” offering both local and international visitors an array of history, shopping, entertainment and accommodation. The balcony of the hotel offers a birds eye view of the square and local residents stop by to chat with visitors, always excited about sharing their history and their homes. Mus’ukulinda Amathuba Community Trust, set up by the shareholders of the hotel, aims to support women’s groups, churches, disabled and youth organisations and actively seeks grants, donations and bursaries from other organisations on behalf of these groups. WELCOME TO WESTERN CAPE In the Western Cape, you will discover world-class wines, wonderful whale watching, contrasting landscapes and ample adventure options, as well as the magic of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans, which meet at Africa’s most southerly point.
INTRODUCTION The Western Cape is home to the world’s longest wine route, found along Route 62, a scenic tourist route that runs from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth, 850 kilometres up the eastern coast. If you don’t have time to complete the whole route, consider visiting the winegrowing areas of Stellenbosch, Paarl, Wellington, Franschhoek, Ceres, Worcester, Bonnievale and Robertson. The Garden Route, from Cape Town to Knysna, is gorgeous, passing through many a quirky town, complete with welcoming locals and fresh produce stalls.
and flavours. The essence of Western Cape foods is found in the complex, multicultural history of the province. It’s a melting pot of Asian, African and European food genres, and every dish reflects waves of historical settlement and layers of flavour interaction. In Western Cape, you will find everything from indigenous Cape Floral Kingdom fynbos menus to Xhosa classics at Mzoli’s Place in Gugulethu or Cape Malay fusion food at Biesmillah in the Bo-Kaap. In addition to its traditional tastes, Cape Town is currently experiencing an ultra modern gourmet boom, which is seeing everything from molecular gastronomy inspired food art to authentic tapas and dim sum spin out of restaurant kitchens.
Stop at Swellendam, a town where the jailer once doubled as the postmaster, to experience Cape Dutch architecture at its best. Several hours south of Cape Town is the southernmost tip of Africa, Cape Agulhas, where the Atlantic and Indian oceans meet. The journey to Cape Agulhas will take you through the scenic Overberg,
As travellers move out of Cape Town and into the winelands, Cape Dutch settler cuisine is revealed in restaurants such as Stellenbosch’s De Volkskombuis. If the former reveals the tastes of times past, Franschhoek’s Le Quartier Francais offers a glimpse of the region’s future glories.
along what is known as the Whale Coast. You could take a detour to Hermanus, a town famous for its whale watching. A trip up the West Coast will take you through many a small town, mainly quiet fishing villages such as Langebaan and Paternoster. Be sure to take the time to enjoy the flora along the way – and stop in at Yzerfontein to experience a South African beach braai (barbecue or grill).
Discover more food of the Western Cape where the olive groves of Riebeek Kasteel give way to the port wine and ostrich of the Klein Karoo, and further east, along the Garden Route, to the oysters and champagne of Knysna. The West Coast offers up the traditional cuisine of the sandveld (sand bush) at eateries such as Bosduifklip, and just caught seafood at the sand-between-the-toes Musibosskerm Restaurant near Lambert’s Bay. THE WORLD OF GRAFF From diamonds to wines, watches to jewellery, fine dining, art and more, the Delaire Graff Estate on the Stellenbosch wine route is arguably one of South Africa’s finest.
The Empire
An Artistic Edge
With the estate underpinned by the Graff dynasty, namely owner and globally renowned visionary Laurence Graff, Chairman of Graff Diamonds International, being in existence at the Cape Winelands property since 2003, the ‘World of Graff’ as it is commonly referred is quite literally breathtaking.
The sophisticated wine lounge is the ideal space in which to savour the wines as the large collaborative work of artists Robert Hodgins, William Kentridge and Deborah Bell stare down from the striking marble fireplace.
The state-of-the-art winery and restaurant have been operating since 2009 and showcase the area’s finest local ingredients. Encompassing two upmarket restaurants, the contemporary Asian-influenced Indochine and the graceful Delaire Graff, plus one expansive winery, Delaire is a preeminent spot for tourists with a gourmand palate.
Progressive Winery Delaire’s high-altitude vineyards, excellent soils and cooling sea breezes produce red wines that are big in structure with soft tannins and elegance, and white wines, which capture the freshness of the yield. Its long, cool winters and a slow ripening season give winemaker Morné Vrey the opportunity to make world-class wines. Rated as one of the top ten wine producers in South Africa, Delaire have taken out a slew of significant awards: successive Sauvignon Blanc vintages: • Two the Sauvignon Blanc Challenge and being rated

Delaire Graff Restaurant Executive Chef Christiaan Campbell offers his signature style ‘bistro-chic’ right here at the premises’ Delaire Graff Restaurant. An entrée of confit duck, duck ham, guava and root vegetables prepares your palate for seasonal dishes the likes of springbok loin, courgette flower, ricotta, mulberry compote, cauliflower, vanilla or pork neck, black pudding, cherries, parsnips, polenta, and star anise. Campbell has an imaginative sense with his dishes and uses the highest quality seasonal ingredients from ethical farmers and organic suppliers. The man’s desserts are simply sublime with the chocolate tart, cocoa banana crumble and peanut butter ice cream being a particular highlight. Guests are able to unwind on the terrace under a dappled canopy of pin-oak trees with splendid views or within the almighty restaurant interior, decorated with a diverse collection of South African art. Delaire’s experienced sommeliers guide diners through the first-rate wine list to ensure every dish has the perfect wine pairing. Perfect, being the operative word here at Delaire Graff Estate.

TABLE MOUNTAIN A monolith standing 1086 metres above sea level with a panoramic eye on the shimmering city and surrounding coastline, Table Mountain is one of Mother Earth’s finer achievements. This majestic UNESCO World Heritage site and South African National Park boasts incredible beauty and environmental importance and is an internationally recognised South African landmark.
With internationally recognised names like Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Nobel Peace Prize-winner FW de Klerk, among many others, the worldwide public awareness of the campaign skyrocketed. The number of votes and the geographical range from where they came was true testimony to the fact that Table Mountain is indeed valued as a wonder of nature. Not only does Table Mountain have awe-inspiring splendour and biodiversity given its proximity to a major city, it is also a significant symbol for a town rich in culture and a nation proud of how far it has come.
Forming part of the Table Mountain National Park, the mountain is a global icon that is home to an extensive variety of plants, animals and insects. The plant list alone includes 2268 species, making a magnificent contribution to the species richness of the Cape Floristic Region (CFR), which boasts more than 8200 rare and endangered plant species.
Nelson Mandela – Nobel Peace Prize winner and former president of South Africa – has said that he was able to see the top of Table Mountain from his cell on Robben Island during his 27 years of political imprisonment during the Apartheid regime in the country. He said that seeing the ‘table cloth’ (as it is fondly known by
The CFR is the smallest yet richest of the earth’s six floral kingdoms. Table Mountain, at an estimated 360 million years old, is one of the oldest mountains on earth. Six times older than the Himalayas and five times older than the Rockies, Table Mountain not only testifies to the beauty that can be found in nature, but also to the strength that can lie within a city or nation when called upon to help one of their own. Recently confirmed in May 2012 as one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature, Table Mountain was able to attain this highly coveted title through three years of intense campaigning and a mammoth dependence on public voting.
After appeals to all South Africans and international fans alike to vote for this significant flat-topped beauty, the mountain was able to draw in more than 100 million votes from 220 countries worldwide. Voting was backed by musicians, sportsmen and women, media personalities, politicians and public figures, to generate enormous interest in the campaign. View of Table Mountain from Robben Island

Heading away from the bright city lights of Durban and up the North Coast you’ll find the ‘big five’ game reserves and the wonders of the (UNESCO World Heritage site) iSimangaliso Wetlands Park. To the east of Durban you’ll find the uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park (another UNESCO World Heritage site) boasting the highest mountain range in South Africa. Then there is the lush green Midlands area with inviting guesthouses and pubs. Or explore the historic hallowed grounds of the KwaZulu-Natal battlefields with their fascinating legends and stories of heroes long gone but definitely not forgotten. Bunny chow!

There are dozens of examples of San rock art dotted around the province, rated as some of the country’s most valued examples. Further down the timeline, Free State culture became heavily influenced by the Basotho or South Sotho people, who arrived here in the late 1700s. Despite many battles through the decades, including with the European settlers, the Basotho survived and are the dominant Free State cultural group today.
You will see hundreds of colourful Basotho huts made of reeds, grass and mud around the province. For a more intimate experience, visit the Basotho Cultural Village at QwaQwa and immerse yourself in Sotho traditions. Or visit the Catharina Brand Museum at Ladybrand and see the transition of this culture from past to present.
The arrival in the 1800s of the European settlers, mostly Dutchspeaking farmers from the Cape, and later the British, undeniably had the biggest impact on the region’s culture. Various buildings bear testament to these influences, including beautiful sandstone Edwardian and Victorian mansions throughout the province. San Rock Art

Sweet fields of sugarcane extend from northern Pondoland in the Eastern Cape through the coastal belt, before giving way to the craggy shorelines of the Wild Coast, where fresh oysters, mussels and line fish are the catch of the day. This region also supports subtropical fruit farms.
It’s fair to call the Eastern Cape the land of milk and honey, for vast herds of dairy cattle graze its pastures between Port Elizabeth and East London, and on the outskirts of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro, is the country’s only commercial mead maker. Honeybush tea is another delicious Eastern Cape treat.
Drop in to Bathurst and you’ll be surprised by a huge pineapple, a fitting tribute to the sweet-sour fruit for which the Eastern Cape is famous, closely followed by the orange and lemon orchards along Biltong

HOPE AND GLAMOUR IN TAG Heuer Legends Cameron Diaz and Leonardo DiCaprio Join Forces at Elegant Charity Event in New York to Support UN WOMEN and NY CARES’ Hurricane Sandy Relief Effort. NEW YORK, November 11, 2012 – A glamorous soirée in the iconic Cullman Hall of the Universe on Central Park West was the setting of a star-studded charity drive by luxury Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer and its Hollywood brand ambassadors Cameron Diaz and Leonardo DiCaprio. The exclusive event, held below the dramatic glass-cubed planetarium sphere in the American Museum of Natural History, brought together NY and Hollywood celebrities, business, fashion and media leaders from around the world and key figures of the international jet-set for a doublepronged charity push: to raise funds for the victims of Hurricane Sandy, and raise awareness for gender equality and the empowerment of women worldwide. The 500 guests in attendance, many of whom flew in expressly for the high-profile event, were regaled by a special performance of the New York City Ballet, before dancing the night away to the music of New York’s redhot DJ Evalicious. For each guest, TAG Heuer pledged $100 to New York Cares’ Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund, and a further $100 to Cameron Diaz’s partner charity, UN Women (The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women). The event marks the first time that TAG Heuer Ambassadors Cameron Diaz and Leonardo DiCaprio combined forces for a TAG Heuer celebrity event. Welcomed on stage by thunderous applause, Cameron proudly displayed her new Link Lady Trilogy Limited Edition in steel, and was wearing a stunning Lanvin dress. On Leonardo’s wrist, he wore the new Link Limited Edition with blue dial. On stage, TAG Heuer President and CEO Jean-

NEW YORK Christophe Babin offered to Cameron a yellow gold version of the trilogy, an exclusive set of watch and jewelry. “TAG Heuer uniquely brings together the elegance of generosity and the essence of luxury,” said Cameron Diaz, a TAG Heuer Brand Ambassador since last March and a longtime supporter of UN Women. “I am very proud to be a part of their efforts to make the world a better and more beautiful place.” “Our hearts and prayers go out to the victims of Hurricane Sandy,” said TAG Heuer President and CEO Jean-Christophe Babin. “Their resiliency in the face of such adversity is a true inspiration, as is the outpouring of support from communities worldwide. We’re proud to support New York Cares as it is the largest local volunteer organization dedicated to supporting those impacted by this devastating storm.” During the prestigious “place-to-be” event, TAG Heuer showcased its new collection of limited edition LINK timepieces and jewelry. A benchmark of avant-garde design and ultimate comfort since 1987, the LINK’s newest incarnations are: the LADIES’ LINK AUTOMATIC WATCH, the first automatic watch for women offered in the LINK Lady line; the LINK LADY TRILOGY, a limited edition watch, ring and bracelet set co-designed by Cameron Diaz; and the “LEONARDO DICAPRIO” LINK CALIBRE 16 CHRONOGRAPH, a limited edition chronograph signed on its smoked sapphire caseback by Leonardo DiCaprio. Profits from the sale of the stunning Link Lady Trilogy will go to support UN Women, while proceeds from the blue-dial LDC Limited Edition Link’s sales will go to Leonardo DiCaprio’s environmental charity partners, Green Cross International and the Natural Resources Defense Council ( NRDC).
