About Me

01 EBBC DISASTER SHELTER DESIGN MIC-SON

Nicholas Wong Ping Han PROFILE My name is Nicholas Wong,I am currently studying Architecture in Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP)

Architecture is the embodiment of the human condition, which satisfies the basic archaic needs of people.Lampung Bay, Kalianda, Indonesia experiences annual tsunamis that ravages the shores & the way of life of Indonesians.Mic-son explores the ideas of a Tsunami Diasaster Shelter through the Micro-Macro concept & retrofitting of modular easy to assemble furniture.

School of Design. While studying architecture,I have developed a piqued interest in the built environment around me. As I set my sights on enhancing the lives in the built environment ,my polytechnic experience has made me grow as an individual as I l come to learn the means to design architecture that is practical, sensible and poetic. Throughout my polytechnic education, I have picked up essential soft skills like modelling software such as adobe suite and autocad to better visualize my ideas and also to comple-

ment my sketches.

Apart from academic studies,I dedicate my time to planning events for my faculty as an active

02 INTUITECTURE,ART OF WU WEI Intuitecture , Art of Wu Wei is a new way of learning through the princples of wu wei. Through these principles, the spatial environements explores learning both intuitively & explorative means.

03 MASS RAPID MILK TRANSIT TRAVELS IN PARALLEL REALITY Mass Rapid Milk Transit introduces an accepting generation of Milkmen & cows in the metropolitan Telok Ayer Mrt.I designed a system which infuses both past & present, a milk processing architecture that transports milk all over Singapore.

04 THE GENIUS IN NATURE DESTINY’S BIRD OF PASSAGE Destiny’s Bird of Passage devising a new way of building dwelling with the concept of biomimicry.I designed a system that takes people on a poetic journey to find their significant other in the urban context of singapore. I learnt to derive and dissect spaces from living creatures.

05 THE VILLAGER AND THE DWELLING OF MAGIC THE WALKING MOSQUE The Walking Mosque is about formulating a new design through the character. My proposed architecture is located at Kinta Road,Singapore for an imam who prays in the open.I learnt how to create spaces through the observation of people’s behaviour.

COMPEITIONS 06 URA CUBE Compeition 2018@Serangoon Central,Singapore The project site is at Serangoon Central,Singapore. The Project is to develop a community hub that integrates both the sliver and the young generation. My team took inspiration of the history of Serangoon in weaving the 2 generations together.

Acknowledgements This porfolio marks the end of my 3 years architecture journey in my polytechnic years. There were many challenges along the way, & I cannnot be more grateful to have supportive friends & family in my architecture pursuit. A special thanks to Zalina Sapie , Lim Wei Ling , Lee Weoi Min , Low CJ , Jasmine , Jashi , John , Michael & Anthony who have shaped me into the designer I am today. I am humbled by these opportunities & guidance with your knowledge. I definitely would not have come this far for if it was not for all your support too !

INTUITECTURE: THE ART OF WU WEI.

FINAL YEAR PROJECT / LOW CJ , LEE WEOI MIN BREWING TIME: 20 WEEKS (OCTOBER-FEBRUARY 2021) Learning, Eating and Playing Made Intuitive and Explorative. Education in Singapore has long established a syllabus-based approach to learning, heavily characterized by rote learning. This regimented way of learning is counter to the ideals of Wu Wei. Actionless Actions, a principle of Wu Wei, informs an new intuitive and explorative approach to learning for the children of ‘Baby Town Punggol’.

DESTINY’S BIRD OF PARADISE STUDIO PROJECT / JASMINE TAN BREWING TIME: 16 WEEKS (APRIL-SEPTEMBER 2019) With an innovative way of form finding, biomimicry ventures beyond boundaries to create spaces inspired by living creatures. Destiny’s Bird of Passage was inspired by the wisdom of the Venus Flower Basket (Euplectella Aspergillum)with an aim to tackle a social issue in the urban context of Singapore.

PROGRAM: MIXED USED DEVELOPEMENT; RESIDENTIAL & COMMUNAL RELIGIOUS AREA, KINTA ROAD, SINGAPORE The program for the architecture is a multi purpose communal area.During prayer timings the architecture serves as a place of worship for Muslims. The undulating surface gives an impression to visitors that one must go on a journey to find enlightenment which is the Imam. After prayer timings, the space transforms back into its orginal form:a communal area that is free for all to use.The domes serves as a home for the Imam and also make the architecture accoustically enhanced.

BREWING TIME: 1 WEEK (NOVEMBER 2018) A conversation of dreaming living & giving, A Weaver’s Confluence takes flight in the urban landscape of Serangoon Central, Singapore. The intervention aims to tie the social fabric between the silver & young generation of serangoon.

EXPLORATIONS-A WEAVER’S CONFLUENCE URA CUBE URBAN PLANNING SERANGOON CENTRAL,SINGAPORE

THE TEAM

The site is at Serangoon Central,Singapore. The project is to develop a community hub that can potentially serve as a new heart for the serangoon central precint,to preserve the identity of serangoon and so as to bridge the gap between the silver and the young generation. The title of this project is called a weaver’s confluence. We envision the scheme to be one that heavily involves the roots of Serangoon;where the rangoon bird used to inhabit the area of Serangoon. With that,my team incorporates this concept for the architecture and the connectivity of the scheme.
