A DONOR SPEAKS I give to the Wisconsin United Methodist Camping Program because it has given so much to me. As a child, camp was a week away from the farm. I would find pine trees and a lake that I could take in and enjoy; evening devotions helped me focus on my relationship with God. Many pastors tell their call story including life changing events they had at church camp. It affirmed for me that my call, developed around the campfire, was just as real. Each time I turn on to the camp road, I know that I will easily find God just ahead. When I need to have even a few minutes escape I can go back to camp in my mind and know God is there. I want others to be able to have that as well. For me, it was a wise choice to sign up for automatic monthly donations. No more missing the gift I want to give if and when too many things are on my mind. It also feels good to know that the camps can depend on me every month. I am blessed to be a blessing. As Always,
Pastor Cathy Hamblin

"I am 25 years old, and church camp got me to where I am today."
I grew up attending Portage UMC with my grandma almost every Sunday, and was baptized and confirmed there. When I showed interest in going to camp, church friends were very gracious in offering scholarships to get me there! Knowing how far I’ve come today, I couldn’t be more grateful for that support so early on. After years of camping, I counseled. I loved it. Who knew that being a counselor could be just as fun as being a camper? I still got to play crazy games, do arts and crafts, sing silly songs, make new friends, and see old ones. On top of all of that, I also learned how amazing it can be to see the joy on kids' faces and know that I had a hand in that. It is seriously the most rewarding and fulfilling feeling that I have come across in my life. In that first year, I became very close friends with another counselor, Dan Flinn. After almost 8 years, I consider Dan a brother. We
joked about how cool it would be to “take over” YoMiCa and be the directors one day. In 2018, what had once seemed hilariously impossible had just become very real. We were honored, scared, and excited all at the same time. With the help of some great volunteer counselors, this has been an amazing experience. I will always be a camper at heart. I cherish that I can continue to come back year after year to make new friends, rekindle old friendships, but most importantly that I can continue to have a safe place to grow and learn in my faith journey. Whether you are young or old, shy or outgoing, I believe that camp has a place for you to be yourself. Somewhere to feel safe, comfortable, welcome, and loved by God. Camp will always be that for me.

For my son’s 50th birthday, we threw him a big party. Many of his cards included a cash gift. His mother asked him, “What are you going to do with all this money?” And he immediately replied, “I want to go to another week of camp!” Retired Pastor Ron Kral
