All works enclosed were produced in the last weeks of the spring 2012 semester, in final documentation of the NOCDS Comprehensive Studio project. They are not intended as a complete reflection on the project, my hope is you find them to be satisfactory as evidence of my skill in various computer programs. All modeling was completed in SketchUp 8, all rendering in 3dsMax with Vray, and all post processing in Photoshop Cs5. Diagrams were produced in Illustrator Cs5.

Bywater Block Party Panorama of Chartres Street in the Bywater area of New Orleans, displaying the South Elevation of the center and a celebration of the premiere screening of a NOCDS production release.

Doors At 8 Inside the lobby of the center, people wait to get into the theater for the pre-screening performance of a local band. On other days, the lobby serves as an art gallery and event space. The screen wrapping the perimeter of the building can be seen folding down into a bed of planters.

Mic Check Inside the Center’s Black Box Theater, a band is sound checking before the big show. Pictured above the room is the tension grid, a hung ceiling of load bearing taught wires allowing ultimate flexibility in placement and positioning of lights and speakers.

On Air As the Block Party picks up outside, the DJ promotes the event in NOCDS Radio Station. The Radio Station is the only in its area and a unique opportunity for people to outreach to and connect with their community.

Systems

S y s t e m s

Solar Water Heating South Facade screen assembly contains piping for water heating system. Direct Sun year-round allows for nearly all the hot water needs to be met by this system.

Air Supply Square ducts are chosen for their ability to reduce volume needed between ceiling and floor

Air Return Square ducts are chosen for their ability to reduce volume needed between ceiling and floor

Mechanical Equipment Room A Variable Air Volume System is chosen for the benfits of user-operability in individual spaces, as well as reduced acoustic disruption. The compromise of this system is much larger ductwork and more insulation.

Passive Zones Halls and firestair are seperated thermally from rest of building, as they are passively heated and cooled with environmental flux. Passive zones reduce cost of operating the building by reducing the conditioned square footage.

Acoustics

A c o u s t i c s

Acoustically Isolated Roooms Radio station, theater, editing rooms, and storytelling rooms require staggered stud wall construction with doubled 5/8 gypsum board finish. Isolators are used in light-weight steel stud connections. Acoustically Compromising Roooms Mechanical Equipment Room produce noise and vibrations, intrusive of NOCDS Center activities. Walls and floors are isolated construction, using isolators and staggered stud connections. Acoustic Isolating Doors Doors allow penetration of acoustic isolation construction methods. Acoustic Isolating doors limit this penetration, maximizing efficiency of surrouning wall and floor construction.

I appreciate your time in reviewing this colletion of images. Thank you for considering my materials and qualifications for your visualization intern position.
