The vegetation strategy for my design is driven through the idea of linking formality to informality through a consistent and continuous design throughout the whole site. This design will aim to create special habitits for local and new wildlife which gradually change from a woodland area along the River Don to the formal structured planting as you get closer towards the city centre. The detailed area includes a lot of herbaceous perrenials, with an evergreen touch to it, hence providing an all year round design. Furthermore, amelanchier lamarckii strikes an eye catching experience as you walk through this part of the area, which also catches your attention as the gradients of light shine through the canopies, creating a fascinating ‘sensory experience’ through the woodland. The vegetation on the ground layer will provide a visually fascinating experience for users which aims to play with ‘your’ senses as the colourful herbaceous perrenials will grab ones attention, whereas grasses such as calamagrostis and molinia will soften the edges of the landscape thus also inviting to use your senses to touch as you brush along the boardwalk on the north part of the area.
