STUDIO WORKS
Born and raised just West of the City of Atlanta, in the small town of Villa Rica, GA, I always knew I wanted to one day attend the University of Georgia. Little did I know that I would pursue a degree in Landscape Architecture and it would end up being the career I wanted to have the rest of my life. Over the past 4 years I have loved every second of the major, from the design studio courses, to memorizing hundreds of plants, and even the late nights in the studio trying to finish that final project. The idea of being able to design spaces for people and solve problems in our cities and towns is exciting to me. I hope to one day be able to do so as a professional Landscape Architect and create a more sustainable, enjoyable world. Outside of the classroom I am a normal college student. I love a good round of golf, college football Saturdays, and cross-country road trips with friends. Enclosed in this portfolio is a collection of my works as a student at the University of Georgia and a story of how I am where I am today. Enjoy

OGLETHORPE ESTATE Oglethorpe Estate was a first-year assignment in my first hand graphics class. The assignment was to take the provided design and fill in the spaces with whatever plantings or materials we pleased using the graphic techniques we learned in class that semester. The project aimed to help us experiment with different plant symbols and graphic techniques. This class was my first exposure to marker rendering and graphically presenting design.

BEN EPPS MEMORIAL PLAZA Ben Epps Memorial Plaza was a project during my first computer graphics class where we learned a combination of AutoCad, Photoshop, and SketchUp. We were given the design of a site located in Downtown Athens near the original workshop of Ben Epps, the first man to fly in the State of Georgia, and used what we had learned in class to render the design. These images are my first experiences with computer rendering.

MOSS SIDE DRIVE ANALYSIS Moss Side Drive is a subdivision development located in Athens, GA. The following maps and images are analysis of the site in order to better understand its context and where best to develop the subdivision. From this analysis we then designed a conservation subdivision on the property as well as a mixed-use development, seen on the following pages.

MOSS SIDE DRIVE CONSERVATION SUBDIVISION Moss Side Subdivision was one of my first experiences with a larger site. I learned extensive site analysis, measuring the best areas of the site to develop on. I studied slope, soil types, and even which trees to save. I then experimented with the design through developing a conservation subdivision. Using smaller lots and larger public green spaces helped conserve valuable parts of the site and offer a central space for everyone to use. We read through Athens zoning codes to determine the minimum lot requirements as well as road layout. This project was when I realized I wanted to pursue large-scale design and development in my career.
Master Plan 8
MOSS SIDE DRIVE MULTI-FAMILY DEVELOPMENT Using the same site and site analysis from the Conservation Subdivision, we were then faced with the challenge of developing a multi-family, multi-use development. Opposite of the conservation subdivision this design was challenged with incorporating single-family homes, townhomes, apartments, and retail spaces into the space. We again read Athens zoning codes to determine the size of buildings and lots as well as parking requirements for the site. At the end we calculated the profitability of each of the designs and compared.

PIEDMONT BANK PLANTING DESIGN
10
The Piedmont Bank project is a project from my 3rd year planting design studio. For this project we were given a design and were assigned the task of filling in the green space of the site with various plantings that we felt were appropriate for the site. This was my first experience with taking what I have learned from my plant identification courses and using it in design. We then created a planting schedule and construction document drawing that called out the plants on site. The information I learned in this course helped me later down the road with my internship when creating planting plans for real projects.
The Boy Scouts of America Northeast Headquarters is a project from my 4th year studio. In this project the client wanted us to transform their greenspace in front of the building into an area usable for ceremonies and other scout activities. They wanted the space to be handicap-accessible and welcoming to visitors of the headquarters. My space included reflection pools, fire pit areas and an ampitheatre for ceremonies and gatherings. The Eagle sculpture and various scout rankings were also incorporated into the site. This project was rendered by hand in color pencil.

LAKE MERRITT WATERFRONT PLAZA AND STREETSCAPE This project was during my 3rd year Urban Design Studio. The Lake Merritt Waterfront Plaza and Streetscape is located on Lake Merritt in Oakland , California. The goal of this design was to take the busy street that leads up to the lake shore and make it more pedestrian friendly while also redesigning the waterfront edge of the site. When performing a site analysis I noticed the roads were wide and lacked proper crosswalks for pedestrians. My goal to make this street more walkable was to create a complete street with buffers between the roads and the sidewalks as well as a center median to not only slow down traffic but also beautify the space.
Site Analysis 12
The South Lake Office Park was a project during my 3rd year, Spring Semester studio. The project involved a real client who owned a piece of property near the airport in Henry County Georgia. The client wanted to develop the site into a hotel and conference center, but before going to an actual developer, the client visited our class for some suggestions on designs. The site had a 6 acre lake in the center and some other site constraints after viewing the zoning codes. We worked as a class to determine the size of the buildings and then created our own individual designs before presenting them to the client at the end of the year.

Busandaegyo Bridge Park, named for the bridge adjacent to the site is a recent project from my Senior Sustainable Design Studio. The project is located in Busan, South Korea along the southern coast of the city. The site sits directly in a commercial district of the city between two iconic bridges to an island just South. Through extensive site analysis and various iterations of design I decided to design a mixed-use development on the site seeing the cities demand for shopping and commercial amenities but also the need for an open green space in the area. The images on this page are some analysis diagrams I created for the project.

BUSANDAEGYO BRIDGE PARK The design for the site started on many pieces of trace paper and eventually took its form located in the image to the right. The goal of the design was to create a landscape that matched the city’s motto, “Dynamic Busan, City of Tomorrow”. The site features an everchanging landscape from the central plaza between large commercial retail and office buildings to the urban forest and large lawn to the South. The site features a boardwalk along the water showcasing the beautiful coast line as well as intimate outdoor seating areas large reflection pools, and children’s playgrounds. The ideas for these spaces can be seen in the SketchUp and photoshop renderings below.

Niles Bolton Associates Summer Internship The following projects and images are property of Niles Bolton and not my own personal designs. As an intern I had a hand in helping to develop presentation packages for the following projects, SketchUp Models, construction documents, and photoshop renderings for the projects. During my summer internship I learned a tremendous amount about the process of design and development and worked right alongside Landscape Architects, Architects, and Interior Designers to develop projects. The majority of my time was spent developing very extensive, detailed SketchUp models and presentation packages for client meetings. By the time my internship was over I had experience submitting designs for permit and creating many different types of illustrative graphics. The following images are some of the projects I was involved in at my time with Niles Bolton.
Atlantic Private Airport Terminal - Hartsfield Jackson International Airport
Sketchup model views for a private airport terminal at Hartsfield Jackson International Airport. The model was created by myself and the buildings were given to me by the architects. The images were sent to a professional renderer to be prepared for a presentation package. This was a much smaller project than some of the others I worked on over the summer but still provided great experience with Autocad and SketchUp.

The project for the University of Louisiana Lafayette was a development for new campus student housing. The project was broken into 3 parts that 8 student housing buildings, a retail component, and amenity features. My role in ths project was to help draft designs that were provided to me, develop presentation packages (shown right) and create a SketchUp Model of the site. This was one of the first projects I worked on over the summer and by the time I finished my summer internship the project was being sent for permitting.

The amenity and clubhouse area were the main focus of the design and where most of my work in SketchUp was focused. The model images below were created by myself and then placed into a larger presentation package to be shown to the client. The buildings were provided by architects in the office that we worked directly alongside in order to develop the best project for the client. These projects were challenging, but really helped advance my skills in sketchup and provided great experience creating real packages for clients and working with other disciplines.

These construction documents are part of the set that was eventually submitted for permitting. The plan to the left is a reference plan for the site and the section elevation below is of the amenity area that I drew. Putting together this document set helped me learn file organization, the use of Xrefs in Autocad, and the various types of documents that go into a set for submission. I enjoyed getting to be a part of this constuction document set.

TURFGRASS MINOR The following page displays some of the unique things my minor has taught me and some of the interests I have when I’m not in the design studio. The images of the potted poinsettias are from my HORT 4050 class where I was faced with the challenge of growing 30 poinsettias, 9 Boston Ferns, and over 120 bedding flowers from start to finish. The class taught fertilizer and plant schedules and how plants are more complex than I thought. The images on the far right display my love for College Football, traveling different places, and seeing the landscape in it’s natural form. My minor has provided me with some of my most interesting classes, giving me insight on what happens to a proejct after design and how it is maintained. My interest in Turfgrass Management sparked from an interest in Golf Course Design, but I soon grew to enjoy large-scale design and development. I still see my knowlege in the Turfgrass field and horticulture experience helping in my design courses as well.
