Project

The downtown arts district in Phoenix has some very bustling areas as well as some very underdeveloped areas. The site chosen for this project is the latter. The aim for the project design was to create a multifamily, mixed-use building that connects to the culture around it. Site specific zoning regulations according to the city of Phoenix were to be followed.

Solution

Designed in collaboration with Avery Moric, Incubate is a simple and effective building utilizing the vertical integration of the artistic process. To revitalize the area surrounding it, the design would connect the neighborhood back to the arts scene and inject a sense of creativity into the people living around the area. I enjoyed working with Avery on all phases of the project and we developed strong communication skills throughout.

envision a multi-use, multi-family complex with a well thought program.

Ground Floor

A lobby, market + deli, and gallery share the ground floor. To fully connect with the downtown arts scene and to allow public flow into the site, the spaces on the first floor welcome interaction and use from citizens passing by.

Units Incubator

The second level houses an open incubation space, retrofitted with movable walls, to allow residents and outside affiliates to create and inspire. It is intended to be the second level of the vertical integration process within the design.

Two unit types exist on the third and fourth levels and are easily stackable. Repeatable units creates an easier integration of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing components. On these floors as well are both amenities: a two story open park space and a full gym.
