Selinda Camp

Selinda Reserve THE

There are few places on earth where humans have not walked. Yet deep in the Selinda Reserve there are such places. Here

there are vast areas of woodland, places that are for lions and elephants only, or herds of buffalo that are never exposed to human pressures. This is a place where wildlife can breathe freely, unmolested and unrestrained.

The Selinda Reserve is an unfenced, wild, 320,000 acre private wildlife sanctuary straddling the Selinda Spillway with the best of both the Okavango and Kwando/Linyanti systems. Selinda’s vast floodplains and ancient forests offer an

authentic and timeless African experience. But what makes this reserve so special is its exclusivity. Within this massive wilderness, we only have a total of 18 guest tents in three small camps on the entire reserve.

Selinda Camp is built on the banks of the Selinda Spillway with breathtaking views across the waterways and the palm studded floodplains. The camp has only 9 large luxury tents, offering a superb, personalized safari experience. Selinda is owned by National Geographic filmmakers Dereck and Beverly Joubert who, with a small group of good friends, passionately believe in delivering a premier experience, while taking care of the reserve and nurturing it for future generations.

E

Accommodation

ach of the nine tented rooms are under thatch and have been tastefully furnished. Fans and netting are standard. The beds are large and comfortable with soft sensuous linen. En-suite facilities include a large stone bath, twin vanity basins, a shower and flush toilet.

Hot water is available 24 hours a day from our solar heating system. New from 1st April 2010, one of the tented rooms will be a specially designed family room which will allow a family to have a separate bedroom and privacy, yet be together in one unit.

Selinda’s FACILITIES

The camp’s spacious and comfortable main lounge and dining area are built on raised decks, allowing expansive views across the floodplains, while catching the cool breezes. Dining is either under thatch or under the stars. Set apart from the main area is our plunge pool, gallery, shop and wine cellar. An outdoor campfire rounds off the day’s adventures.

YOUR

EXPERIENCE

Wildlife viewing is by vehicle, boat, on foot and sometimes even in

canoes. Game drives are in our

specially adapted, photographer designed open vehicles with removable canvas canopies, providing for full visibility.

There is no set routine at Selinda Camp; the wildlife sightings

determine the day’s activities and timings. We generally explore

the reserve in the early morning,

late afternoon and at night when the wildlife is most active. Short

or full morning’s walks are led by licensed guides who are firearm

experienced. A private vehicle and

guide service is available, but must be booked in advance.

Selinda Canoe TRAIL THE

Among the most rare of experiences on offer in Africa, and a highlight for any African enthusiast, is the 3-night Selinda Canoe Trail. Weaving through the waterways linking the Okavango Delta and the Kwando/Linyanti systems, this 70 kilometer epic adventure awaits those in search of exploration. The Trail operates annually from late May to early October when the Spillway’s water levels peak. Canoeists paddle in sturdy Canadian-made canoes, stopping for impromptu walks as wildlife and experience dictate. Each night is spent camping on one of the Spillway’s islands, fully hosted by camp staff. At the end of Trail, an extension to Zarafa and Selinda Camp provides an opportunity to explore even more of the Selinda Reserve’s environs.

Selinda’s Wildlife Large population of Botswana’s wildlife and predators roam free and wild through the savannas and woodlands of the unfenced Selinda Reserve. Famous for its large herds of elephant, at the height of the dry season, in late September, censuses have recorded as many as 9,000 elephant in the Reserve. The high population of plains game attracts all the major predators, and sightings of the elusive wild dog as well as lion, leopard and cheetah are enthralling. Even a glimpse of the rare roan antelope is possible.
