We start our story with the Volunteering Project which is a new project for Ealing Mencap. It started in July 2006 when Manpreet joined the Mencap Team. She works closely with Maurice, the Volunteer Co-ordinator to link Volunteer Support Workers and Volunteer Buddies together.

“So as we reach the end of this trail, the Perks family are moving out of Ealing, fortunately not far enough to say farewell but it is an appropriate moment to express our thanks to Pat, Brenda and Margaret who have all made an enormous contribution to the success of Ealing Mencap over many years. Margaret has represented the national charity in forums aimed at improving the lives of people with learning disabilities across the UK and Europe. Fortunately, Brenda continues as Treasurer and we would like to wish the whole family a happy future in their new home.

Also on Tuesday morning the Carers Action group has a meeting with the Carers Development Worker to plan for their meeting with local councillors in early October. The training session in the computer suite also happens on Tuesday, with a tutor funded by the local Further Education College.
he Resource Centre Manager is a creative and imaginative person who gets the best out of everyone, people with disabilities, volunteers and staff. The Centre buzzes and new ideas are always being tried out. People with learning disabilities feel that this is their place, a place that excites and stretches them, but also a place where, if they need a bit of sanctuary, they are allowed to sit and just be.

“As you now know, our fund for Enterprise Lodge has been well and truly kick started thanks to the Yerolemou Trust. However we need to raise £1.5 million altogether in order to create a centre that will truly match our customers hopes and expectations. We have placed a bid to the Big Lottery Fund for a further £¼ million and we have just appointed a new fund raiser who aims to raise the rest of the money by the end of next year. Help us to maintain this impetus and donate as much as you can afford. We plan to start work on the project straight away. Please join us in establishing Ealing as a community that can be considered to be truly inclusive and caring.” Julian Hillman

We will always value your support, help and friendship. The many people we help will be able to enjoy life more and to play an active role in determining their own futures. Should you wish to find out more about the work we do then please call us on 020 8567 9185. We are here to support as many people with learning disabilities and their carers as possible. The less we have to worry about money, the more time we will have to do exactly that!
