“Don’t just tell the story; write a better story”. Instead off creating designs purely for stakeholders and the city, I ensure that my designs tell a meaningful story to challenge conventional ideas, breaking architectural norms. Why design buildings on land when I can integrate them with the ocean? Why can’t a swimming pool be vertical? My philosophy confronts the conventions we adhere to today, to write a newer and better story.

With a keen eye for design, and a passion for form-making, I am a year 3 architecture student who focuses on sustainability, while still connecting the beauty of aesthetics to important functions that impact everyday life. I am competent in my software knowledge and application, sketching, and knowledgable in the history of architecture. I pride myself in having a wild mind brimming with creativity, always generating ideas that go beyond societal norms. “if one can design a fork to eat, why can’t one design a building to live in?” No matter what form it takes, design has the capability to solve all problems and create soltions. Therefore, it’s a journey I seek to embark on. a journey to find ways that design can be seen as it is - a tool to improve lives. I want to make this world more sustainable with architecture and design as the catalyst in creating the changes and solutions the people need to save our mother earth.

INDIVIDUAL PROJECTS 2017 - 2019

Segar Harmony (2017) “community plus interactions the active ageing hub In today’s modern world, Kampongs are known to be a folkstale. Engaging the community through daily interactions, I want to reintroduce this rich history to our Pioneers, incorporating the large abundance of greenery surrounding us, not only allowing for a healthier lifestyle in its location, but welcoming all to create more opportunities for bonding between everyone.

11

A large communal plaza at the entrance of the building creates a strong inviting presence, encouraging pedestrian flow towards the programmes and activites on the first floor, whilst form maximazes a ramp around its circumference.

The circumference of the hub allows the curvilinear ramp to make a smooth transition from the first floor to the second. The ramp provides access for the handicapped and also acts as a platform for a healthier lifestyle.

The large green roof provides a rainwater buffer, purifying the air and reducing the ambient temperature. The lush greenery encourages faster recovery and a relaxing, healing stay at the active ageing hub.

Southern Horizons (2018) “a local lagoon resort exeprience the labrador park resort The lagoon shaped resort is located at Labrador Park near the hustle and bustle of working Singaporeans and foreigners. This resort caters to office workers who need to get away from the hectic worklife and settle down for a mini getaway that provides a scenic sea horizon view from every sunrise to sunset. The concept was inspired by the seas, hence guests may interact with the sea within the heart of the resort.

15

The Southern Horizons Resort offers the utmost guest experience as the standard and premium rooms are oriented towards the wide scenic ocean view, thus allowing guests to enjoy the natural land breeze in the day and sea breeze at night. This creates a sustainable living environment for guest with passive design strategies in order for them to enjoy their stay while gaining comfort from the surrounding environment itself. The 3-storey restaurant is accessed through boat rides or swimming to allow guest a unique interactive dining and restaurant experience. This resort also accomodates high accessibility, featuring a long boardwalk spanning 25metres to allow guest to move from one end to the other.

Standard Room

Premium Room

The standard rooms and premium rooms both allow scenic views of the sea but with a few amenities that make the premium room more desirable to stay in. In order to enjoy a full experience of the sea, the premium room comes with a mini pool connecting to the sea. This creates an infinity pool effect together with a koi pond and foliage around the room, capturing Singapore’s garden city name.

Pasar Pavillion (2019) “form becomes function a modern bazaar pavilion Introducing a pavilion where its location is embraced by the sun, playing with transparency through its form enforces programmes, feelings and decisions throughout the length of the pavilion. Encouraged by flexibility using a modular structure on a pedestranized walkway, the pavilion alllows order through disorder of spaces and form.

21

The pavilion sits within the chosen allowed built area of the site, creating an oblong shape that transitions smoothly throughout, fitting the path perfectly..

Cutting the form into 5 distinct parts allows for sufficient views for pedestrians, the seperation of spaces and functions, while still maintaining the oblong shape.

The programmes were broken down into 5 unique forms to complement the surrounding physical environment. 3 different mediums of glass used to invoke certain feelings in various parts of the pavilion through the amount of transparency.

The unqiue forms combine together to create a timeless pavilion that uses the simplest form of a 3-dimensional polygon, the cube, to create interactions integrated into the architecture that affects both physical and emotinal needs.

“Cubism;

art

becomes

reality.”

The word “Pasar”, brought me back to my first time at the pasar malam with an assortment of programmes that many Singaporeans would associate with tradition. Giving a nod towards the traditional pasar malam, this pavilion takes the linearity of the circulation and spatial layout of a pasar malam, and gives it back through the form. With the provided footpath stretching 7m wide, the constraint allowed for intimacy, and focus on the interior. The interior is not bound to programmes and spaces are curated to be flexible and convenient. Using modular furniture on an open grass floor increases flexibility as users are the masters of the space and can change the way they want the space to be used. Thus, without compromising its intial use as a pedestranized walkaway, it provides people the choice of using the pavilion without disrupting the flow of human traffic.

OVERSEAS EXPERIENCE 2018 - 2019

-Venice / Florence

27

My architecture study trip to Venice and Florence was one to remember. The trip exposed me to the history, buildings and culture of Italy, as well as the traditional architectural construction methods, especially St Marks Square and the Cathedral of Florence, the two extrodinarily designed architectures. I gained much knowledge through visiting universities and workshops, gaining a better understanding of how the process of design is imagined by Italian students.

The highlight of the trip was visting the Venice Biennele 2018. Understanding how different countries interpret the meaning “freespace allowed me to gather insights into how fruitful design can be. This word freespace allowed architects and designers around the world to bring in the idea of togetherness and generosity that architecture provides to humanity today. I viewed many concept planning diagrams, sketches hand drawn and even many physical models that were hand made from many different mediums.

-Bandung

33

I visited Bandung where my class a to understand the material of bambo bamboo in their land, and one way able material is to intergrate it into methods on how bamboo can be used to lectures, we had some time to work on the people hosting us at Bandung to be

and I were given a 4-day workshop oo. Indonesia has an abundance of y they make use of this very sustaino structures. We were taught various o create different patterns or ideas. After this project where we made a frame for e used for future gatherings and events.

-Beijing, China

37

During my stay in Beijing, I was not only exposed to the rich and diverse culture of China, but also the people there. During the trip, one place that I felt further open my heart to the world of design was the 798 Art Zone in Beijing. The experience of seeing graffiti, old torn down buildings restored, artisan cafes helped me to also to see firsthand the dramatic income disparity within China itself Another highlight of my china trip was my visit to the CCTV Headquarters by Ole Scheeren. .
