VISION

INTEGRITY AND UNIVERSITY COUNSELING

• Nido de Aguilas limits the number of applications to a maximum of 10 schools and strongly encourages students to limit the number of countries that a student applies to 4 or fewer countries. Nido de Aguilas students should be considered serious applicants.

• Nido de Aguilas students are required to sign and adhere to the school’s early decision policy which states that if a student applies early, and is accepted to that school, the student will enroll and withdraw all other active applications.

• Teachers and counselors have close working relationships with seniors through seminar-style discussion courses, extracurricular activities and other mentorship opportunities. It is our intention to provide specific and in-depth letters of recommendations that best represent our students’ abilities, level of engagement and interest in being challenged as well as other intangible qualities like curiosity and creativity. It is our policy to not fill in the Ratings/Rankings, and all recommendations are confidential.

UNPRECEDENTED CHALLENGES AND COVID CONSIDERATIONS

The 2019-20 and 2020-21 School Years held many unexpected challenges for Chile and the world.

October 2019

A fare increase in the Santiago Metro sparked a series of protests that rapidly transformed into the worst civil unrest Chile has experienced in decades. The government announced a state of emergency and imposed a curfew for Santiago and many other regions in Chile. Between October 21-25, Nido de

November 2019

Due to the continued civil unrest throughout Chile, Nido postponed the annual Week Without Walls program. Though the School was able to resume some campus based co-curricular activities, there were several modifications to the schedule and interruptions that persisted for the remainder of the semester

December 2019

Civil unrest forced the PSU selection test (Prueba de Selección Universitaria), a university selection test required for all students applying to university in Chile, to be canceled. Nido de Aguilas observed its normal summer break period between December 19, 2019 - February 17, 2020

March 2020

The first case of COVID 19 was reported in Chile The Chilean government announced numerous measures to control the spread of the virus including a national curfew, state of emergency, the closure of schools throughout Chile and the closure of its borders to foreigners. Having prepared a distance learning program due to the civil unrest of the previous semester, Nido was able to start with online classes on March 16. The Chilean government issued a mandatory 24-hour/7days a week quarantine for many regions around the country including Lo Barnechea, the comuna where Nido de Aguilas is located.

October 2020

Nido de Aguilas has submitted a comprehensive reopening plan to the Regional Secretariat of Education and Secretariat of Health of the Metropolitan Region for authorization. Authorization is still pending, therefore, no firm date has been established for reopening our campus for in-person classes.

SAT AND ACT TEST CANCELLATIONS

Due to the timing Southern Hemisphere vacation calendar (late December - late February) and the strict national quarantine and school closures that began in March 2020 due to the global pandemic, calendar year between January 2020 and JULY 2021. The first administrations started in August 2021.

DISRUPTION OF SCHOOL-BASED ATHLETICS AND ACTIVITIES

Between October 2019 and July 2021, all athletic training and competition, as well as fine and performing arts events, were cancelled due to unsafe conditions associated with civil unrest and/or the global pandemic. Nido de Aguilas returned to campus at the end of July 2021.
