How to turnaround a struggling business Sanchia Cayzer // 08 9381 5027 www.cherryblackwa.com.au Over 60 percent of small businesses cease operating within the first three years according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics. This is an incredibly high figure and remains this high even in the best economic conditions. So what is going wrong? And more importantly how can you stop your business being a statistic.
Nifnex Business & Lifestyle // 4
There are many reports and studies into why this figure is so high. The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) released a report into corporate insolvencies for 2011-2012. Their findings are consistent with numerous other studies and that is the major factors involved in business failures are poor strategic management, inadequate cash flow and trading losses.
plumber for example. Whilst you may have been the best plumber working for a large company, to start and run your own plumbing business you need skills that you simply may not have. These skills include but are not limited to: marketing, sales, quoting, scheduling, debtor control, invoicing, cashflow, stock maintenance, employing staff, contract negotiation, asset management, licensing, taxation, bookkeeping, website design and maintenance and strategic management. As you can see running a plumbing business has very little to do with being plumber. A lot of these things can also be outsourced but a large percentage of new business owners simply don’t have or will not invest the money in these services. There is a general attitude that “it can’t be that hard, I’m sure I can do it.” So the three biggest reasons a business is likely to fail are: Lack of research and planning
What’s worse is that most business owners can see that things are going badly but simply don’t know how to correct it.
Lack of business knowhow
There is a perception that because you are a good at something, if you start your own business it must be successful. There seems to be an attitude that anyone can start and run a business and there are no special skills required. Let’s take the
It’s never too late to plan: It doesn’t matter if you’re selling a product or a service. A solid business plan will help you identify how much demand is in the market and who the competitors are. You also need to look at why people will buy

from you. Who is your ideal customer? What message are you trying to tell them and most importantly how are you going to get this message heard. A comprehensive business plan will also incorporate the businesses financial health. You need to know what are the ongoing weekly, monthly and annual costs? What are the direct costs and what are the overhead or fixed costs? Can any of these costs be reduced? How many sales are needed to break-even, that is cover all the costs. How many more sales are required to pay yourself the wage you need to live on? What is the current sales level? The financial, market and customer information is then combined to generate a complete plan of where the business is going and how to get there. Get appropriate advice: People assume that because there is so much information online, they’ll be able to find the answers to all their problems. In most cases expert advice will not only save you time but also money and stress. The right professionals will help you gain the business knowledge you need and more importantly show you where you’re going wrong and what you need to do to fix your business before it’s too late.

Three Easy Steps To
Marketing Implementation Shannon Daniels //Emanation.com.au Over the past decade I have spent close to $800k learning about business, marketing and lead generation. To sum up what I have learnt is impossible, however, the three things that stand out most when it comes to implementation are:
Nifnex Business & Lifestyle // 6
1) Know the lifetime of your customer. The lifetime of your customer is the length of time they keep buying from you. Knowing this will tell you how many new customers you need just to maintain the status quo. For example: If you keep your customers for 3 years then you are losing 33% of customers each year therefore requiring you to replace 33% of your customers to maintain the same level of business. If its 2 years that’s 50% and 1 year, 100%. 2) Marketing is not a sales pitch. It may be more beneficial that your marketing lead prospects to the entry point of your funnel where you can educate and nurture. This allows you to position your business as a trusted expert and once they see you as the only logical solution for what they need they will be prepared to pay you more than you competitors. 3) Demonstrate value. If you effective demonstrate the value of your product or service then the price won’t matter. You can do this by diagnosing their pain, agitating it with the cost of inaction, and demonstrating enormous value in your prescribed solution. Price is only problem when the prospect has nothing else to compare. The biggest challenge most business owners face when it comes to marketing is knowing what is the most effective and affordable thing to do. If you can relate then perhaps a marketing health check will help. Claim yours free by calling Shannon Daniels on 1300 535 022.
The Digital Marketing Landscape Has Changed Alistair Henrisson // RealWorx Marketing I was recently invited to speak at the Nifnex Business Festival in Perth on lead generation and marketing in the digital space. The landscape of digital marketing is changing. A lot of people are actually expecting social platforms like Facebook and Instagram to do the Selling for them, when in fact they are simply a resource to meet and engage with people, where the Sale takes place OFFLINE. This is where we will see those that employ these 3 fundamental actions as part of their digital strategy will see the long term relationships and results in their business. 1. GIVING MASSIVE AND IMMEDIATE VALUE. If you are hearing this more often, there is good reason for it. The social space is fast approaching a “change the channel” adoption. Just as you would literally change channels between programs because you are being thrown ads, it’s the same in the social space. Think about how many people, businesses and organisations are throwing themselves at you. Society are becoming numb to this and for this very reason, it is so important to build authenticity and credibility through giving away your knowledge and content for free. Giving away your knowledge, content, insights and good quality information relevant to your field of expertise or service industry that people can implement immediately will draw more people to you and your product. It’s only natural that people will continue to return to you for your expertise. As you become a turn to person in your industry, your credibility and online authority will grow and you can employ strategies to convert your trusted viewers into paying clients.
2. B UILDING YOUR SOCIAL AND ONLINE PROOF Technology is accessible to just about anyone. Alarming stats show that before anyone engages with your product or business they have done the research online. If you don’t have the ‘Proof’ that you are doing what you say you are doing, if you don’t have the ‘Proof’ that you’re making an impact, there’s a strong chance that you will be losing business to those that are. Creating social proof is important in showing your followers and audience that you’re the authority in your industry, the turn to person, a person of influence. Those that are seen as a person or business of influence are more favorably looked upon and people are more likely to do business with you. There are many things you can do in the online space to build that social proof, but it is most important to be authentic, and to be yourself. These qualities will be what draw in your own unique followers, which subsequently become leads and sales for your product or service. 3. TAKING YOUR ONLINE OFFLINE. Technology makes it really easy for us to become lazy in the sales process. Emailing through the quote. Messaging the price. Not building relationship and rapport with the potential customer means less chance of a sale. It is really important to take your client that you’ve attracted in the online or social space offline, whether by phone, but always where possible in person. People buy people, they buy the experience, then they buy the product or service. You can only achieve so much through emails and messaging. Your sales will dramatically increase as a result.

3 Marketing and Lead Generation tips to
Dominate Your Market Paul Duncan // 0433 440 881 Paul@paulduncan.com.au 1- Define Your Target Market Many businesses can’t answer the question: Who is your target market? They have often made the fatal assumption that everyone will want to purchase their product or service with the right marketing strategy. A target market is simply the group of customers or clients who will purchase a specific product or service. These groups of people all have something in common, often age, gender, hobbies, or location. Your target market, then, are the people who will buy your product or service. This includes both existing and potential customers, all of whom are motivated to do one of three things: • Fulfill a need • Solve a problem • Satisfy a desire To build, maintain, and grow your business, you need to know who your customers are, what they do, what they like, and why they would buy your product or service. Getting this wrong – or not taking the time to get it right – will cost you time, money, and potentially the success of your business.

2- Never compete on PRICE only VALUE Most business owners compete on price and wonder why they are not making a profit at the end of the day. This is due to business owners not knowing the fundamentals of marketing –how –WhatWhere –Who – Most Business owners DON’T know the lead generation secrets I’m about to reveal to you. This information is so powerful and compelling; it will position you in the top 4% of all business owners that don’t compete on price today. This example will show you why every small business owner should acquire a step-by-step roadmap as they start to generate leads for their business. Here’s what a true marketing professional will know... and help you implement into your marketing. It’s known as the “conversion equation.” This conversion equation will make sure you NEVER have to compete on price. Instead, you will start selling your product or service for what it’s really worth. You’ll drive in more leads and increase your advertising response by 10 to more than 100 times. You will convert a higher percentage of those leads and dramatically increase your number of sales. You will get a bigger bang for your marketing buck. The bottom line is this... you will literally create a profit bucket that you will have TOTAL control over.
• Interrupt. You must get your qualified prospect to pay attention to your lead generation marketing. Simple enough to say, but a lot more difficult to pull off in real life unless you understand what you’re about to learn here. The interrupt is done through your headline if your marketing is in print... or it’s the first thing you say if you’re marketing at a networking event. • Engage. Once your prospect is interrupted, it’s critical we give your reader the promise that information is forthcoming that will help the prospect make the best buying decision possible. In other words, it must help facilitate their decision to pick you over anyone else. This is the job of our subhead line. The interrupt is our headline that highlights a specific problem that your prospects are looking for a solution to... and the engage is our subhead line that promises them that you offer a solution to the problem we mentioned in our headline. • Educate. Once we’ve interrupted and engaged your prospect, we have to give information that allows them to logically understand how and why you solve the problem they’re facing. This is accomplished by giving detailed, quantifiable, specific and revealing information. This is typically done in the body copy of your ad. When we educate, we need to reveal to your prospects the important and relevant information they need to know when making a good decision, and that your business... and yours alone... provides it to them. The interrupt and engage hit the prospects emotional hot buttons. Educate is the logic they need to justify picking up the phone and calling you. • Offer. Now that we’ve interrupted your prospect based on problems that are important to them... engaged by a promise of the solution... and they’ve examined the educational information that makes your solution real and believable... the last step we need to take is to give them a low risk way to take the next step in your sales process. We do this by offering a free marketing tool, such as a report, brochure, seminar, audio, video or something that will continue to educate them. Your offer will allow your prospect to feel in control of their final decision to call and buy from you. So our conversion equation is Interrupt,
Engage, Educate and Offer and together they equal market domination. 3- Strengthen Your Marketing Message The strength of your marketing message lies in its ability to speak to the specific wants and desires of your target market, and tap into their emotional reactions, or hot buttons. When you push those hot buttons, you motivate your audience to take action. The more people you can motivate to take action, the more leads you’ll have in store and on the other end of the phone line. A marketing message is simply a statement or phrase that you use to communicate information about your business to others. A strong marketing message will do four things: • Speak to the reader’s needs, wants or problems (hot buttons) •Offer a solution, advantage or benefit •Describe a point of difference •Motivate the reader to take action The key here is to motivate your target audience to do something after they read or hear the message. It needs to be strong enough to entice the audience to ask for more information, visit the website, pick up the phone or walk in the store. You should put your marketing message on every piece of marketing material your business uses for lead generation, so it has to be powerful and consistent and speak to the group of people that you have identified as your ideal customers. Strengthening your marketing message has the potential to dramatically increase your lead generation before you even change your existing strategies. Work through the following questions to brainstorm and record the aspects of your business that you will communicate in your marketing message 1. Use all the information you gathered about your target market to figure out what your customer’s hot buttons are. 2. Describe the value or benefit that your product or service offers your customers. 3. Think about the outcome of the value or solution that you provide. 4. What is your company’s point of difference? Your U.S.P? What makes you stand out from the competition? 5. Based on the notes you wrote in response to the above questions, summarize the information into a paragraph of 4 to 5 sentences.

Be Seen, Be Heard, Be Known... Sylvia Marina ND // Communication Coach 0412 198 612 - www.sylviamarina.com
develop yourself, and then watch as doors of opportunity open.
When you want to Be Seen, Be Heard and Be Known...
I grew my business from a raw start-up to a 30 year success story.
Kick Shyness – this one shift in behaviour will magnify your life.
Perhaps I was in the right place, at the right time...I’m here to tell you, the right product and timing has passed people many times. For me the product was aligned with my highest values, I spent many hours and dollars educating myself so as to become an authority.
Shyness is either a learnt or inherited behaviour. It inhibits your desire to be seen and be heard. Egotism and arrogance is over-reaction to an underlying shyness or low self-esteem. BE SEEN Move Into Your Comfort Zone, Not Out Of It – I love this.
Nifnex Business & Lifestyle // 14
I was educated by highly respected people in sales and marketing to move out of my comfort zone. That approach didn’t work for me. I believed and have personally proven that with better understanding of your product or service you will move further into your comfort zone. I did it. I’m fortunate to know my purpose for this life – when I have a microphone in my hand, when I am working with and educating audiences, when I am working one-to-one with a person, I’m in my comfort zone. Do the thing you love and you will instinctively discover yourself expanding your comfort zone and joyously extending the boundaries to learn and understand more. Education is Key to expanding your comfort zone. Allow your comfort zone to extend to wider audiences, media and face-to-face conferring. BE HEARD Get More Yes’s – increase your confidence, business and income. Become an authority, this doesn’t mean becoming a know-all. To become an authority is to study, personally experience, engage a mentor, learn speaking skills,
My product was and still is Specialist Kinesiology. With a professional background in Behavioural Science I specialise in the emotional reasons behind physical dysfunctions. I write this because – to be heard you must have a story that resonates with YOU, then you can speak it, from your heart. I brought kinesiology to Western Australia as a consequence Radio and National Television were keen to hear my story and product. Education and service groups wanted a celebrity speaker – I was ready to Be Heard, I became Known, and my business grew. BE KNOWN Melt Away Anxiety – anxiety comes from fear, identify the fear and move on. I have mentored and witnessed people who allow anxiety to hinder their progress. The fear of what others, usually family, will think. Stop waiting for approval. If I had waited for the ‘approval of others’ to launch kinesiology on a public platform, my business would have failed. I believed my product, I understood my service and I gave myself the approval to move it forward. Believe in yourself, put yourself with your product or service to the community and Become KNOWN. BE HEART CENTRED Leave Behind, Pushy Persuasion Tactics – be known for the right reasons, be known for connecting and creating heart-to-heart relationships.
3 Powerful Tips to Generate Leads SAM REECE // www.c2s.net.au Top three tips for lead generation: 1. C ontact all the clients that you did business with in 2016 (preferably by phone). Set up a coffee catch up (face to face is the best) and ask your client what is on their horizon and how best you can help them. Then make sure you diarise these key dates so that you can chase up your clients for the work! 2. M ake a list of the clients you would like to do business with. Google their CEO’s and then ask to connect through LinkedIn. If you have colleagues in common then ask these people for an introduction. Make sure you are posting for at least a month in LinkedIn before you contact the potential client to outline what you do and ask for a meeting. Don’t worry if you don’t hear from them – keep contacting them the next month, and then the next month. But make sure that when you do make contact – that your email covers what is happening in the industry, client testimonials etc. Remember it has to be worth reading! 3. F ind a networking group that suits you and your business. It took me some time to find the right groups because I was looking for bigger organisations. So don’t be put off if you have to attend six to seven organisations before you find the right fit. Once you have joined then make sure you attend regularly. I Blog and post frequently on Facebook and LinkedIn so that people get a sense of who I am and what I offer. But remember - do not do the hard sell via social media - it is off putting. Ask yourself “What would my client want to know?” and then provide that content. People respect intelligence and how you help others and this will gain you traction before anything else! Good luck!

How to Disrupt Your Competitors before they disrupt you We often hear the expression, “disruption is all around us”, yet we mostly miss what this really means, and how it affects us and our businesses, and more importantly, what we can actually do about it. It is no longer just a term for startup businesses, either. It is affecting everyone and every business at this point. It is now for businesses that have been around for awhile, those that are struggling at times with generating leads and sales, or even the businesses that just simply want to get more efficient at the growth and success of their business, deliver more value, or simply outmaneuver your competitors.
changed. We need to better be able to understand this change, this disruption in order to better be able to use it effectively and to our advantage. The common thread? Businesses that disrupt their industries can become remarkable. And, those that don’t, will simply become irrelevant and close their doors. What can you do to increase your sales and leads, and start your path to disrupting your industry? How do you disrupt your competitors before they disrupt you?
To state the glaringly obvious, we now all live and breathe in a massive, global, connected, disruptive economy. This affects you, your business, and all of your customers. There is no stopping this either; we need to use and learn what we can to actually embrace it, and leverage how we build up our business accordingly. If we don’t, we simply will be left behind.
1. Stop focusing just on the “3%” of people who are “ready to buy”. Look at the larger 67% of your audience that has the potential to buy from you, at some point along their buying journey. Don’t forget about these people, as they are potentially the largest part of your business. Focus on nurturing them throughout the entire buying cycle, not just on the last step of entering their credit card details. Do you purchase “everything” right away? Probably not; your audience is no different, they need time to get to know you.
We all know that business is simply not the same as it used to be. Business has changed, and we need to change with it. Our audience has changed as well, and more importantly, the way that our audience connects with us has also
2. Strengthen the “Know - Like - Trust” Triangle. According to The Google and their “Zero Moment of Truth” analysis of buyer behavior, your audience needs at least 7 “hours” and 11 “touch points” before they will do business
with you. Basically, you need to clock up this count through many of the channels available to you - content, social media, visuals, videos, training, etc - it’s all about your insights and how you get them directly to your audience. This leads us to step #3 - building a value nurture sequence. 3. B uild a Value Sequence that nurtures them through an “ascending transaction”. Start with a free “gift” that allows your audience to understand their own problem, and how they can learn to fix it. It is not about providing a final solution; it is about providing a pathway for them to follow. Next, move them towards a “product for prospects”, one that continues to nurture them, with more value that again helps them towards their own goals, not yours. Finally, move them towards your core business, by educating them in terms of how they can have a more defined and successful future with their business Start simple, and learn the basics to bring in more business. Start with the steps above, and learn how to deliver truly remarkable value to your audience. If you want to find out where you currently stand with your marketing, and how this can affect how you disrupt your industry, right in front of your competitors, go to www.leadership.digital to get your score.
