#1 WRITE A LETTER TO A HERO/ PARTNER: OPERATION GRATITUDE Writing a letter and coloring a picture is a meaningful way for you to show your support for all who serve in our armed forces. Operation Gratitude sends 200,000+ Care Packages each year to Troops, Veterans, New Recruits and First Responders.
Lesson for the little ones!
Who Are Armed Forces?
• Try to think of some of your FAVORITE T.V. shows or movies that you like to watch. Now can you think of anyone that helps protect others and keeps them safe from bad guys?
• Well the Armed Forces are just like that!! They are people who fight off the bad guys that are trying to hurt us or do bad things.
• They do really brave things so that we are able to be happy and safe. Who is someone you know that is REALLY brave? Well people in the armed forces are brave just like that person is.
• Do you like to pick out your own clothes sometimes? Or say the way that you are feeling? Well in other places around the world boys and girls are not always allowed to wear what they want or say what they want. Our Armed Forces fight so that we are able to do these things without getting in trouble. This is called FREEDOM.
• They also help people all the time. They help when really scary things happen to our earth such as GIGANTIC storms or fires. These things cause people to get hurt or even lose their houses. Our Armed Forces help these people get better just like mommy or daddy helps you get better if you get hurt.
• The Armed Forces are just like the heroes in our T.V. shows and movies that we watch. They are always there to make things better and save the day. It is their job to be a super hero for our country.
• We should always want to show them our love and tell them thank you because without them our lives would not be as great as they are. Grab your included card and colored pencils! Having your adult help you, it’s time to write and decorate a special message! Once you are done, place the card in your mailbox and send it back to us at Kids Night In. We will make sure OPERATION GRATITUDE gets your letter, a larger donation and more goodies! You will bring a smile to our Nations hero’s! Doesn’t it feel great to give!
Lesson for the Older kids!
Who Are Armed Forces? • The Armed Forces are all of the people that make up the military in our country. This includes our Army, Navy, Airforce, Coast Guard, and Marines.
• These people use the skills that God blessed them with to protect our country in different ways. Can you think of something that you are really good at? Well just like you are really good at that, the Armed Forces are people who are really good at being brave, patriotic, and being a leader.
• The Armed Forces spend time away from their own families and homes to keep our families and homes safe. They risk their own lives to protect our lives.
• They keep us safe from bad guys inside and outside of our country. They also keep us safe from other countries that are trying to hurt us.
• These people also help our country in times of need. When natural disasters such as hurricanes, tornados, fires, or earthquakes happen to our nation the Armed Forces step up to help fix things and make everything better.
• Our Armed Forces make sure that the citizens of our country keep their freedom. They protect our rights and this allows us to be able to do the things we want to do and say the things we want to say. We are very lucky to live in America because in other countries in the world people do not always have the freedom to do the things that they want. We can thank our Armed Forces for helping us keep this freedom.
• The world is a dangerous place but it is our military’s job to keep the danger out of our country the best that they can. They are the super heroes of America.
• It is so important that we take the time to show our love and support for our Armed Forces because they do so much for us. Our lives would not be as amazing as they are if it were not for these heroic people. Just like the poem says, “they walk the walk so we can talk the talk”.

Next, getting help from an adult, you are going to make cookies! The cookie mix included in your box is super easy to make and only requires water to be added! Follow the instructions on the bag and make your cookies. After your cookies have cooled its time to taste one and be sure they taste delicious to give to other people who have helped you, loved you or might be lonely or sad. This could be a parent, friend, teacher, school bus driver, postal worker, elder, police officer, neighbor or anyone who has a special place in your heart. While your cookies are cooling off we want you to cut and decorate your included gift tags and think about who you want to give your cookies to.
