Faith Family Fun K I D S N I G H T I N BOX

Dear Adults, Welcome to your Faith Family Fun discussion guide! Thank you for letting us join you as you encourage your little one(s) to experience the love of Jesus. Our hope is to offer an interactive and enjoyable way for your little one(s) to connect to the beautiful message of the Gospel. This is the perfect time of year to teach your little one(s) how easy it is to show gratitude this season. As your little one(s) discover just how many things they have to be thankful for while doing this box’s activities, direct their gratitude to the One who gave it all. Through this month’s discussion with your little one(s) we hope your child’s grateful spirit will be contagious to those around them as they step out and say “thanks.”

How did Michael give thanks? (Michael said thank you to God by being grateful for what he already has.) It’s easy to find ways to show thanks! In each of these stories, God was filled with joy when His children chose to show their thankfulness. By being thankful, each of the children were filled with joy, too!

LET’S GIVE THANKS Choose one of the ways below that you would like to give thanks to God right now. You can take a look back at your Thankful Tree activity as you say “thanks!” I want to pray a thankful prayer:

MEMORY VERSE:

“Dear God, thank You for loving me. Thank You for my family, my friends, and my home. Thank You, most of all, for sending Your son Jesus to teach us how to be just like You. Amen.”

James 1:17—“Every good and perfect gift comes from above.”

STORYTIME Our Bible verse tells us that every good and perfect gift comes from God. When someone gives us a gift or does something nice for us, it’s polite to show our gratitude by saying “thank you.” How often do you think that we should say “thank you” to God for the gifts that He gives us? Just once on Thanksgiving or every day? We should find ways to say “thank you” every day!

I want to sing a thankful song: Sing and dance to this silly song. Make up your own rock ’n’ roll tune or show off your best turkey impression! Don’t be a turkey. Just say thanks! Don’t be a turkey. Just say thanks!

There are lots of ways that we can give thanks to God. Listen closely to these stories and see if you can hear how each person chooses to show his or her thanks.

Don’t be a turkey. Just say thanks! Be thankful in your heart for everything. Yeah, be thankful in your heart for everything.

As Sara laid down in bed and closed her eyes, she thought about how happy she was to have spent the whole day having fun with her family. She prayed to God and thanked Him for giving her a family who loves her very much. How did Sara give thanks? (Sara said thank you to God through prayer.)

(repeat x3) I want to share one of my gifts:

David and his mom spent the whole afternoon in the kitchen making the yummiest batch of chocolate chip cookies. When they were ready, David wrapped up some of the cookies and decided to serve his neighbor by bringing her a plate of fresh cookies. How did David give thanks? (David said thank you to God by sharing his gift with his neighbor.) Ashley played all afternoon on her new bike. When it was time to go inside for dinner, she wanted to leave her bike in the yard, but instead, she decided to take good care of it. She walked it into the garage, parked it in its special spot, and hung up her helmet. How did Ashley give thanks? (Ashley said thank you to God by taking good care of her gift.) Michael saw that his friend John got a new race car for his birthday. He had been wanting the same race car, but he decided to be happy for John and remembered all of the cool toys that he already had.

A fantastic way to show that you are thankful is to share something that is special to you. Can you think of something that you can share right now? Maybe it’s your acorn gift! When you share what you have, it makes God smile, it makes your friend smile, and it can make you smile, too!

CARRY THE CONVERSATION FORWARD: •

Continue to find new ways for your little one(s) to give thanks this month. Make it fun!

Encourage your little one(s) to recite their memory verse this month: James 1:17—“Every good and perfect gift comes from above.”

As you witness your little one(s) making choices to show gratitude this month, don’t miss the opportunity to offer them praise and encouragement by acknowledging the good choice they made.
