Heroes abroad No typhoon was going to ruin the Best of Southern Japan Tour. Super Typhoon Lan may have darkened the sunny skies of Okinawa, but the 26 Nikkei Horizons Adventurers were undeterred. Grounded, but not deterred. How did these hardy travelers weather the storm and pass the time? Nikkei Horizons Instructor and Adventurer Dale Kaneko came to the rescue! Dearest KNW supporters! As 2017 ends, I watch the sunset of my tenure as President of the Keiro Northwest (KNW) Board of Directors. It has been an honor and privilege to serve. I reflect on these past two years and have many fond memories. The Board of Directors continues our work on the BIG Picture, with eyes on the ever-changing trends in healthcare. It has been humbling to realize there is so much to learn about this country’s health care system. It’s clear that the greater community needs Keiro Northwest and healthcare experts to help lead through complex policies and regulations. It is time to think beyond the box to keep KNW the 5-star organization at the top of the industry! Many serve KNW. I want to thank all the KNW staff who dedicate their hearts and souls to the residents and community each and every day. Thank you to loyal volunteers who give their personal time, Ayame Kai members most of all. I am inspired by their tireless energy to create amazing fundraising community events to grant KNW’s wishes!!! I challenge you to help them with a gift of your own time. I plan to. I give my heartfelt appreciation to dedicated CEO Jeffrey Hattori, whom the board granted some welldeserved time off to spend with family. I am thrilled to announce our next President, Frank Fukui. He is a community leader and has great passion for KNW. He has my support as a former president. Most of all, I thank those who support KNW. Your donations really are investments, enriching the lives of our residents and their families. Please know that your generous gifts benefit current and future residents. We have all been challenged with the complex health care changes for the past several years. This is a difficult time. But, we face this together and keep our eyes on the moving target of senior healthcare. United, we can honor the legacy our co-founders set forth decades ago. Please mark February 9, 2018, on your calendar for our 2nd Annual Lunar New Year Celebration. Bigger and better, the sports theme returns in the Year of the Dog. Join in the fun! Wear your favorite team jersey and greet professional sports celebrities and chefs. Eye-opening travel experiences (many thanks to Delta for their donations), one-of-a-kind artwork, and rare sports memorabilia can be yours with a winning bid. I thank you for your continued loyalty to KNW and ask your consideration for Keiro Northwest as your final 2017 tax-deductible donation. You will not regret how we will put your generosity to work in 2018!!!

KEIRO NORTHWEST MANAGEMENT TEAM Jeffrey Hattori, Chief Executive Officer 206.726.6500 jhattori@keironw.org

Dear Friends & Family – Where did the year go?! This past year has flown by so quickly, it’s hard to believe that we’re here saying goodbye to 2017 and hello to 2018. As I sit here writing to all of you, I find myself reflecting on the past year but excited to be looking ahead to 2018! Our dynamic and wonderful team works day in and out to care for and enrich our residents’ and participants’ lives. We’ve welcomed 80 NEW team members to carry on our values and service. Notable retirements include: Lisa Madison (10), Aida Villaron (10), Megumi Sherrill (10), Marina Cabugon (19), Thor Prom (32)! Heartfelt goodbyes go to several key leaders – Janice Deguchi, Chief Operating Officer, and Tina Masuda Draughon, Chief Financial Officer. We will miss them and all that they have done for our organization. That being said, we said hello to Bridgette Takeuchi, Chief Financial Officer & Chief Strategic Officer, and Brandon Nelson, Strategic Operations Director. They have hit the ground running to push our organization forward and into the future. Three key internal promotions will propel KNW even further… Rick Takeuchi, Chief Administrative Officer; Jeannette Rivera, Human Resources Director; and Jake Colter, Interim Director, Community Enrichment Services. As we continue to welcome the next generation at Keiro Northwest and internally promote talent, I realize that our services and programs will continue to change and evolve to better serve all of you, our ever-growing community. The ideas and energy may be changing, but the Keiro Northwest Way remains consistent. And because of that I’m so proud of what we have done and for all that we have yet to do! 2017 brought so many wonderful events designed to meet a variety of interests and needs. We hosted our 1st Annual Lunar New Year Celebration… a commitment to a new annual event and fundraiser. Once again, we saw our incredible community come together and enrich the lives of our residents, families, and employees. We launched Caregiver Resource Day, and the Founders’ Golf Benefit, the Summer Festival, and the Living Well Health Fair continue to raise funds, awareness, and spirits. THANK YOU! Thank you for your support in 2017! And I thank you now for the continued support in 2018! May you and your families have the most wonderful holiday season!

Jeffrey

Golf is beautiful The young, young-at-heart, and those forever young bonded over competition and united in their commitment to elders at the The energy, the excitement, and the pure joy of sinking that putt, combined with the satisfaction of doing good, formed a powerful force. This force – both on the greens and at the post-golf dinner and auction – helped us raise over $121,000. $15.5K of that funded Nikkei Manor’s Sensory Therapies Package, a pairing of electronic and hands-on music and art for residents of all abilities and talents. Golfers, guests, sponsors, volunteers, and donors each put their stamp on the event, and our deepest thanks go out on behalf of the residents, participants, and clients of Keiro Northwest. Special thanks to the tireless and dedicated Golf Committee, who always give so generously of their time to help plan and execute the event. Team Nelson, the returning threesome of Chris Nelson, Kevin Adams, and Scott Robertson, took the title of Grand Champion oh-so-close competition.
