Gion District: By the mid-18th century the area was Kyoto’s largest pleasure district defined by its old wooden buildings, teahouses and exclusive Japanese restaurants. We will visit Mitoko restaurant where famous Gion geisha (geiko) welcomes you. Daisen-in (Daitoku-ji Temple) in Kyoto (Zen Buddhist Temple): Daitoku-ji and its sub-temple Daisen-in are part of a large walled temple complex and the head temple of the Rinzai sect’s Japanese Zen Buddhism. Here, the influential tea master Sen no Rikyu underwent strict Zen training. Experience the spirit of Zen and enjoy beautiful Zen garden. Ganko Takasegawa Nijoen: Ganko Takasegawa Nijoen, a mansion that has been used as a vacation home for the powerful and wealthy of the day for nearly 400 years, has an elegant and splendid garden. SP15/W-10 MIZUHIKI ZAIKU – BEGINNING AND CONTINUED Learn the fundamentals of the Japanese art of mizuhiki zaiku and create colorful cards, cranes and trinkets using mizuhiki cords. In this 2-hour workshop, you will learn the basic cord-knotting technique. This workshop is taught by Kathy Carmichael and Rebecca Durham. This course covers defensive driving techniques and the normal changes in vision, hearing, and reaction time associated with aging. During the course, participants learn about current rules of the road and how to operate their vehicles more safely in today’s increasingly challenging driving environment. Although the course is geared toward drivers 50+, it can be taken by licensed drivers of all ages, and there are no tests. Course participants may be eligible to receive a state-mandated, multi-year discount on their auto insurance premiums. IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGISTRATION: On-line registration for winter quarter will begin on March 2, 2015 and paper registration for winter quarter will begin on March 16, 2015. Registration will NOT be accepted prior to this date. Summer quarter starts the week of April 13, 2015 with the exception of some tours or classes. PAYMENT: Payment by check, credit card and cash is accepted. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover Card and American Express. MEMBERSHIP FEE: $30 annual membership fee (non-refundable) is valid from September 2014 through August 2015. PARKING: For classes at the Seattle Buddhist Church (SBC), students may use the church parking lot on the corner of 16th Ave. S. and S. Main St. For classes at Nikkei Manor, parking is limited. For classes at Bellevue Children’s Academy, parking is available on site. Please carpool or use public transportation whenever possible. Nikkei Concerns is not responsible for any loss or damage for parked vehicles and/or contents at any location. TOURS: Most tours depart from the SBC parking lot (SBC/PL) on the corner of 16th Ave. S. & S. Main St. Return time is always approximate. Only those with confirmed reservations will receive a reminder telephone call from Nikkei Horizons staff prior to the tour date. CLASSES: Classes are scheduled for 8 weeks, unless otherwise specified. CANCELLATION: Nikkei Horizons reserves the right to cancel a class, workshop or tour if it does not meet minimum participation requirements. In general, for a class or workshop, the minimum number of participants is four to five

students. For tours, the minimum varies. REFUNDS & CREDITS: Nikkei Horizons reserves the right to cancel any class, workshop or tour due to insufficient registration, cancellation of venue, or withdrawal of an instructor. In the event of a cancellation, a refund or a credit will be provided. Full tuition credit will be granted for classes, if you withdraw before the start of the second class. For workshops and local tours, you must withdraw 10 days before the date of the workshop, in order to receive full tuition credit. A credit will not be granted after the second class, except in the case of a medical emergency. In such cases, a copy of a doctor’s order is required. Credits are valid until they are used up to take other classes. Refund checks take 2~3 weeks to process. Annual membership will not be refunded or credited in any case. WAIVER: All participants must sign a Nikkei Concerns Waiver on the registration form each quarter before attending any class, workshop or tour. IMPORTANT NOTES: Registrations are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration is complete when full payment is received. Only those properly registered for a class or tour may participate. Students will NOT be contacted prior to the start of a class or workshop unless it is cancelled or they are placed on the waiting list. Those on a class, workshop or tour waiting list must be paid in full and will be notified as openings occur.
