Products Designed in London made in Great Britain

Assemblyroom Furniture was established in 2010 by Peter Wall & Cathy Spooner to compliment our award winning Commercial Interior Design practise which we have been running for the past 9 years. Having backgrounds in both interior architecture (Peter at Middlesex University) and furniture design (Peter at the National College of Art & Design in Oslo and Cathy at Kingston University) it was a natural progression for us to venture down this road. Informed & inspired by our Commercial Interior Design experience, our design approach to furniture is to create iconic pieces which are comfortable, durable, refined and built to last.

Just as one might buy a Saville Row suit or a pair of hand made shoes, we see our furniture as a quality purchase that will stand the test of time. ‘Britishness’ is a key feature to the Assemblyroom ethos; from both a cultural and an operational perspective. With a prolific furniture and fabric production heritage, British design has historically stood for craftsmanship and good quality that endures; values which we are keen to uphold. Logistically, the British nature of our material choices mean that any ‘chair miles’ that the product creates are kept to a minimum; from the fabric companies from which the material is sourced (Bute in Scotland & Camira in West Yorkshire) through to the frame maker and upholsterer who manufacture the sofa (both London based businesses.) Environmental impact is also a key feature of our ethos and consequently the materials used in the chairs and tables have been carefully selected for their durability and sustainability. The frames are constructed from either FSC or PEFC timbers and covered where possible with reconstituted foam. They are then upholstered in either a Bute or Camira fabric (both companies which have been selected for their use of natural products and their environmental credentials.) We have options for reusable packaging. As an alternative to our standard plastic wrapping we can also use a giant paper envelope that can be reused again and again and at the end of its life can then be recycled.
