Do you own a 58-64 Chevrolet Fullsize car? Looking for air suspension? Cool Cars Engineering offers what we believe is the most complete kit on the market for these X-frame cars. Several options are available, from 100% bolt in air bag brackets down to the complete kit with rear trailing arms and wishbone. One of the biggest advantages to the rear wishbone is that it replaces the banana bar, and panhard bar(track bar). Eliminating these parts and and adding the wishbone will control axle shift, and keep the rear end centered throughout travel. The wishbone is 95% bolt on and only requires about 15-20 minutes of welding. Please call 1-888-266-5969 for more info on this and many other kits and suspension components from Cool Cars Engineering.

MUSTANG II FRONT SUSPENSION
INSTALL 52 FORD F100
As people get older, they use medicine and botox injections to keep themselves feeling fresh and updated. Classic Vehicles are no different, thats why the aftermarket is full of parts to upgrade and change them. This 52 Ford F-100 is no different, it came in sporting a factory suspension, drum brakes, and a nose bleed altitude. Follow along as we upgrade to a Speedway Motors Mustang II front suspension to make the driving experience more enjoyable
1: Fresh from the paint shop sporting a fresh fauxtina, this is the way the Effie rolled in.
2. The Speedway Motors Mustang II front suspension came with a Heidts crossmember, frame boxing Plates, tubularupper and lower control arms, manual rack & pinion, stock height spindles, coil springs, shocks, and a full disc brake setup.
3: The black mark on the frame shows the center line of where our suspension will be.
ISSUE 01 | TUCKINLOW.COM
4&5: A quick test fit of our main crossmember reveals that we will need to modify the original Flathead engine mounts to get the crossmember in.
4
6
5
7
6,7,&8: The bottom of the frame rail needs to be trimmed for the boxing plates to properly fit. Using a straight edge to make our mark, we cut it with a 4 1/2 cut off wheel. 9: During the laser cutting process, the frame boxing plate is marked where the center of the crossmember should be, which will help place the boxing plate in the correct position on the frame. 10: Now that the plate is where we want it, we weld it in.
8
9
11 & 12. Going back and double checking our measurement, we center our crossmember, and tack it in in case we need to make any adjustments. 13: More measuring and test fitting is done, and we now fully weld the main crossmember in place.

14,15,16, 17: We can now measure for the top hat(upper crossmember mount) and weld it in. 18: Remember we had to modify those engine mounts?
14
15
19&20: After trimming the mount the void left is minimal, but still needs to be addressed due to torque and weight. 21: A final assembly of the full suspension, and a few coats of satin black paint and were ready to tackle the steering.

22, 23 & 24: With the rack and pinion mounted, we mated the modified the original steering column to accept a universal joint, and used a D shaft to connect the steering shaft of the rack to the column. 25: After the updated suspension, and altitude adjustment, the truck should be fun to drive again! The front suspension height can be altered by using a taller spring, removing coils from the supplied spring, or using a drop spindle.

IN CHARGE
ISSUE 01 | TUCKINLOW.COM
Some people are born with the love for cars in their blood, some people get into them in early childhood, that was the case for Charles Devall, who says he got his love of cars from his father at an early age. Since that time, Charles has owned a rather eclectic stable of custom cars and trucks, each one having a different personality and look about it! Charles picked up this 65 Impala convertible out of California with most of it already done. The body is smooth and slick, with Moss Green paint applied over it, The interior is all redone in the factory pattern with tan vinyl, and a simple stereo mounted beneath the dash. The Engine is a rebuilt 327, built and painted to appear factory under the hood. The only thing he has done to the car since receiving it from California is a full suspension redo, Brandon
Smith, Josh Slucher, and Josh Jenkins at Smith Chassis and Metalworks in Louisville, KY installed a CCE Air Systems 65-70 Fullsize GM Air Suspension complete with 8 3/8 SMC Valves, 2 Viair 380 compressors, Slam Specialties SS6 Bags in front, and Firestone 2600 Lb bags in the rear. Two switches on a panel on the dash complete the setup and allow for instant raising and lowering of the car! While the staff of Smith Chassis was underneath the car, a Center Link from Rare Parts Inc. was installed to get a better handle of the front steering. To help bring the 20 and 22 Inch Intro Rallye Wheels to a hault, a disc brake setup was also installed. This beautiful Impala barely scratches the surface of some of the vehicles that Charles is currently building!, Look for more of Charles and his cars right here in the pages of TUCKINLOW!

BAD, BLACK & BLOWN
There comes a time in the life of a car guy when the time is “just right” to build a complete jaw dropping custom that is an extension of them, and for Owen Odell of Van Buren, AR, that time is now!

ISSUE 01 | TUCKINLOW.COM
Owen purchased the 1966 Mustang Fastback in 2002, and subsequently tapped into the guys over at D&D Specialty Cars in Van Buren, AR to build the car to his liking. The basis of any good build starts at the chassis, where 100 percent of the OEM chassis was filed away in the dumpster in favor of a full tube chassis, complete with a Heidt’s fully polished 9” rearend with 13” inboard Baer brakes and adjustable coil overs. Kugel Komponents front suspension with chrome upper and lower control arms gets down into the pavement thanks to front airbags, while Baer 13” brakes helps bring the “Black Beast” to a hault. 17” front and 20” rear Boyd Coddington wheels were paired with Dunlop tires to finish off the stance of the car. A stainless steel 18 gallon fuel cell feeds the 2002 Ford Lightning 5.4 Liter Engine that was mated up with a 4R100 Transmission that now finds its home between the frame rails of this beast! For most people, a modern V8 swap is enough, but for Owen, thats not the case, a Polished Eaton supercharger was added, a Street and Performance pulley system also adds some eye catching beauty to the engine compartment. The outside of the car was left virtually stock, except for shaved front and rear bumpers. The hood now tilts forward to reveal a nice hand fabbed engine compartment. The crew at D & D spent alot of time assuring the body was arrow straight before laying down the PPG Black Noir paint and clear, followed by several painstaking hours of wet sanding and polishing to ensure a mirror like finish. To make room for the full tube chassis, every bit of the Mustangs original floor pans, firewall and trunk pan had to be removed, and a new floor and firewall hand made and installed, which in turn gave Denny John’s at D & D a blank slate to lay down yards upon yards of eye popping red leather. The custom dash houses Dakota Digital Gauges, and flows into a center console that holds the Vintage Air controls, the rear seat was given a permanent vacation in lieu of a custom rear package tray that holds the head unit for the Kenwood stereo.
Wheels/Tires: Front wheels are 17” Boyd Coddington with 215/40/17 Dunlop SP Sport Tires, Rear Wheels are 20” Boyd Coddington with 295/40/20 Dunlop SP Sport Tires.
Owen is no stranger to the custom vehicle Industry, previously owning a ‘39 Chevy Master Coupe, and Willy’s Jeeps over the years. Owen, a life long “car guy” built this car for enjoyment, and I would say he’s more than accomplished that feat! Owen takes the “Black Beast” all over the country to over 30 different shows per year Including Good Guys, NSRA, and Local Shows!

2012 BEATERSVILLE Text and Photos by Josh Jenkins
Every memorial day weekend on Sunday Morning in the Highlands neighborhood of Louisville, KY the community has a wake up call in the form of cackling from open headers, the whine of superchargers, and the smell of high octane fuel. Held at the historic Phoenix Hill Tavern, traditional rods and kustoms line up as early as possible to ensure their entry in the pre ‘68 event. The show has outgrown itself over the years, and the city has allowed them to shut down part of one of the areas busiest roads(Baxter Ave.) to allow for more room for vehicles. You may find vintage dragsters and racecars, gassers, traditional rods, era specific kustoms, and even some unexplainable conglomorations of 4 wheels and an engine here. The cars arent the only draw to this event, there are bands on stage ALL day, the bar serves up ice cold adult beverages, and there are a few great food vendors, including Spinellis pizza serving up the finest in east coast inspired pizza by the slice!. Shave and a Haircut? yes!, that too!, Derby City Chop Shop was on hand to lower your ears, and give you a smooth straight razor shave! There is also a heavy competition each year for the crowning of “Miss Beatersville”, a tradition since the show was started, these women dress up in their Sunday best, and compete for cash and prizes! We like Beatersville for its laid back atmosphere, and you dont have to have a $100,000 car to be involved, Beatersville should be on your list of shows to attend every year!

WHEN THE SMOKE CLEARS Text and Photos by: Koapono Patrick, KPConcepts
Jake Mckiddie is no stranger to the world of custom vehicles, he is the owner of Phat Phabrikationz(Phat Phabz) in Oklahoma City, OK, and the President of the Oklahoma Chapter of Severed Ties. Having his last build grace the cover of a magazine, Jake picked up this 2010 Chevrolet Silverado Crew Cab with intentions to drive everyday, but being who he is, he couldnt just leave it alone. As a matter of fact, we visited Jake’s shop for some other business, and he happened to show us this project and he claimed “Im drving it to Showfest in two weeks”, well he did just that! As the crew at Phat Phabz tore into the suspension, up front they modified an Ekstensive Metalworks kit to lay

the massive 28” DFD wheels and 295/25/28 Decenti Tires, while the Airlift 2600lb bags allow the front to untuck and turn with ease. In the rear, the frame was lengthened to accept the 6.5’ bed, and was notched to allow the back end come down to planet earth with the front. To get the big 28’s under the truck, the rear axle was narrowed 2.5” overall, and mated with a handbuilt wishbone rear suspension with Firestone F9000 bags behind the axle ensuring a smooth ride. The air management consists of a Viair 480 Dual Pack plumbed to a 5 gallon tank, as jake hits the switch, the SMC valves are there to lift and drop the truck to his desired height.
Any normal person would just repaint the entire truck and let it fly, but the factory bed was tossed in favor of a 6.5’ bed in which the bedfloor was raised 12 and the stake pockets shaved. After Phat Phabz had all the metalwork done, Stack Coon ensured the body was laser straight for Charles Degand of CD Designs to come in and lay down the paint. The headlights and taillights were smoked to flow seamlessly into the overall look of the truck. The Interior of the beast was given a clean and subtle approach, as Curt Enochs was responsible for redoing the seats with a complete Katzkin interior kit which features black leather, with a black suede insert. The A pillar houses digital gauges to keep an eye on the air suspension. Jake would like to thank his wife Keri, Charles Degand, Stack Coon, Curt Enochs, Opie, Felipe Rodriguez(Intense Audio and Wheels for the wheel and tire hook up), John Roberts, Blaine Hawkins, Tony Morris, Jill Gelvin, Matt Baker, and all his Severed Ties Brothers and Sisters!

TRYKES N
TREAD By: Koapono Patrick | kpconcepts.com
There are some shows that were started for a good cause. First year show Trykes N Tread is definitely one to be added to that list. Held April 21 & 22 in Lawton, all types of custom car and truck enthusiasts met at the Great Plains Coliseum to show off their pride and joy as well as check out what others have been wrenching on. The show was presented by Mountain Metro Ambucs, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating mobility and independence for people with disabilities. Two custom AmTrykes were given away from the proceeds of the show along with a surprise bike that no one had planned on. Vertically Challenged car club was there to help run the show. “The Surprise bike went to a young man, 22 years old with Cerebral Palsy. He and his father were showing their Classic Mustangs. One of our Mountain Metro AMBUC Girls (Kori Fuqua) was walking around checking on everyone and the young man’sf ather said they had to go because his son’s legs were bothering him. Well, Kori asked if he knew about the AmTryke, he wasn’t familiar with them, so she hooked him up with our Physical Therapist (Aimee Carter) who is also a member of Mountain Metro, and we were just lucky to have the specific bike he needed on our small AmTryke trailer. So Aimee fitted him on the bike and he rode around the parking lot. His father started crying. It was amazing, So we had him fill out the paperwork to get him on a waiting list for the bike. As a group, the Mountain Metro AMBUCS got together and decided to surprise him with the AmTryke. So We did our second Custom AmTryke ISSUE 01 | TUCKINLOW.COM
Presentation and waited for the surprise AmTryke recipient until just before the Trophy presentation, because we knew he would be there with his dad. The Mountain Metro AMBUC President (Linda Mask) went on stage and thanked everyone for coming then began to tell the story that one of the car show attendants needed a bike, and we wanted to do something special for him. So we brought the bike out and put it infront of the stage, and we called him to the front and gave it to him. Aimee came out and adjusted the straps for him, and he took off! He drove the bike all over the coliseum! So thanks to the money raised at the car show we were able to pay for all three bikes, and the money will go towards building Ramps, giving scholarships and giving more AmTrykes! - Elaine Hilz (Trykes N Tread Car Show Director)
There were several classes with trophies and prizes. Some of the events during the show included truck limbo, hopping contest, kids games, burnout contest, a bikini contest, and a cruise after the show. With almost 1,000 spectators, 125 registered show rides, and 15 vendors, Trykes N Tread definitely put on a good first year show with a nice venue that brought back memories of the discontinued show Spring Bash. Trykes N Tread 2013 is already in the works with the dates set for the 3rd weekend of April.
