WHERE WE ARE AND WHAT WE HAVE DONE

• Celebrating 20 years of supporting people with a learning disability • Changing the name of ‘Haringey Association for Independent Living’ to ‘HAIL’, helped us to promote our service by using a name that was easy to remember and became synonymous with our mission statement • Promoting ourselves as an organisation that endeavours to do its best for people, always learning and developing • Being creative and unique, setting up Stars in the Sky a dating agency for people with a learning disability, winning two Community Care Awards and being the subject of a Channel 4 documentary “Truly, Madly, Deeply” • Developing Stars in the Sky as a national agency, running a service in Birmingham, with allied services in the Isle of Wight, South Yorkshire, Herefordshire and more • Merging with a small local charity and extending the range of services we offer • Winning a tender in Wandsworth

• Having a good reputation and working in partnership with the people who fund our services “their problems are our problems, but working together helps” • Having a sound financial base with a healthy cash flow and good internal controls • Keeping our central costs low and putting money directly into support for service users • Supporting staff to gain accredited training in National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) and the Learning Disability Qualification (LDQ), and meeting government quotas • Having one of the only NVQ Centres that offers accredited training for service users • Promoting inclusion and involvement • Creating a “strap line” of “Living, Learning, Working, Loving” that actually describes the work that we do, and promotes the lives of our service users equally to the lives of ourselves and other community members.
