hello new home decor trends Over the past 10 years or so, the farmhouse trend has dominated interior design aesthetics across the nation. Many people have adopted a color scheme of soft grays and whites with accented shiplap walls. Wood signs with quotes in script, distressed wood furniture and barn doors galore created an atmosphere straight out of HGTV. But what if having a rooster in your kitchen is not for you? There are many trends emerging that allow your house to feel authentic.

Hello Comfort

The most prominent emerging theme for interior design in 2021 is comfort. People are focusing on the function and livability of their space. They are focusing on incorporating livable luxury, fusing practicality with purpose. The ultimate goal is to create a safe haven, a sanctuary from today’s stressors. This is manifested through cozy furniture that looks collected over time, not mass produced, well-loved books lining the shelves in a natural manner, plush throw blankets that invite you to sit down and rest, and plants to soften the edges.

Venture into the Dark

Gone is the look of having a mono-

chromatic whitewashed home. New design trends are embracing the dark and moody walls. Dark charcoal, navy, and even some browns are most commonly seen as a backdrop in bedrooms and living spaces. It creates a moody setting that allows for contrast with bold furniture and accent pieces.

So Long Shiplap, Hello Wallpaper

The past ten years have shown a lot of wall treatments using wood for visual interest. If you have seen HGTV or DIY, you are probably familiar with the shiplap craze. Homeowners are now looking to incorporate texture and interest, but from a wider variety of sources. This year we are seeing a strong

return of wallpaper with the bolder the print the better. Images of bright floral or modern pattern wall papers are popping up all over the web. The updates to wall paper have made it a desirable choice for interior design. Gone are the archaic papers that were difficult to install and near impossible to get off. Today’s wallpaper includes easy stick and peel options that allow you to seamlessly install and easily remove should your design aesthetic change. Decor Trends continued on back page
