Inspiration with New construction trends New construction home design is a great tool to use whether you are remodeling your own home or looking to renovate and flip an investment property. New homes are specifically designed to appeal to a wide base of buyers assuring that the design style will not alienate any potential sales down the road. New construction companies hire expert interior designers who understand how people are living and what they want to see in their homes. They also have a keen eye for blending functional living with a beautiful aesthetic.
What is Currently Trending?
Gone are the days of all white and gray. Color is starting to make its statement in homes again. Designers are mixing bold statements, with natural elements and neutrals dispersed throughout. It is not uncommon to see copper tiling or concrete fireplaces. Here are some of the common design features in model homes throughout the country:
Bold Black: Gone are the days of com-
pletely whitewashed homes. Black is making a return in many areas of home design. Its presence is seen in industrial style furniture that mixes black metal with wood textures.
Matte black cabinetry is making its appearance in sleek kitchens. Another striking design style is mixing black elements with white and gold to create a modern feel throughout a home.
Large Open Living Spaces: Open floor
plans continue to dominate floorplan design in new construction throughout the country. However, a new trend of trading bedroom space for common living areas is starting to emerge. The total square footage for bedrooms is gradually decreasing in lieu of having large walk-in closets for storage. Sprawling master suites are still a focus; however, secondary bedrooms have a smaller footprint allowing for more space to be used for family living spaces such as lofts and second story “bonus rooms.
Kitchens Redesigned: Builders are opt-
ing to change the layout of kitchens. The new focal point of a kitchen are massive islands, some requiring two slabs of stone for countertops. Consistently, we are seeing less upper cabinetry to make way for open shelving and large walk-in pantries. Also, gone are the formal dining rooms with three or four walls. The focus is on incorporating dining and
gathering in the open floor plan of the home creating a more casual and inviting experience.
Creating a Space of Zen & Mindfulness:
Minimalism is a trend that is maintaining its presence both in the cerebral and physical spaces. This translates into having a home that is free of clutter but furnished with functional pieces to store the items that are worth keeping. While the allure of a brand-new home can draw many in, price may be a factor. Therefore, many buyers opt to buy an existing home to own in a desired neighborhood with larger lots and more established landscaping with an eye for renovating down the road. Incorporate these trending design elements into your home or consider buying a fixer-upper and renovating it to contain these elements.
