So Long, Lolong! by Frederick Sarmen Jr.
Lolong, the world’s largest male saltwater reptile in captivity, extending to around 21 feet and weighing 1, 075 kilograms. Gained fame for making it to the Guiness World Record. Lolong was captured in a creek in Bunawan Barangay of Nueva Era in September 2011. It was reportedly to have attacked livestock, and was believed to have eaten a man who went missing, and killed a 12 - year - old girl in Lake Mihaba in 2009. It was given the name “Lolong” after crocodile hunter Ernesto “Lolong” Goleran Canete, who dies of a heart attack while searching for the animal. The 21 - foot saltwater crocodile died at its pen around 8:00 PM, on February 10, 2013. The cause of death indicate that Lolong died of a combination of pneumonia and stress. I am very dissapointed for the failure to preserve one of the Philippines’ wildlife pride and treasure. They should have put the delicate creature away from where humans can harm it. The stress could be due to people or visitors around it. I believe this was one of the reasons for its death. Perhaps the sudden change of environment was what caused it as well. He probably needed a much larger swamp - like environment almost similar to where he grew up in. It is not enough to understand the natural world; the point is to defend and preserve it for we serve as the voice of the wildlife. They cannot speak for themselves. We, as humans made by God in his own image and likeness should learn to preserve the wildlife he has given to us to make a better world. Or better yet, a more environmentally - aware future.
E-News Everyday? by Zoie Estelle Bonite
E-news stands for electronic news. It is a self contained, reusable and refreshable version of a traditional newspaper that acquires and holds information electronically. E - publications are also widely used nowadays. It contains news on current events of special or general interest, issued in a machine readable form and can be accessed via input or output devices connected to a computer. News on the internet and news on television are just the same because they provide information to the viewers. However, e-news are more profound, elaborate, detailed, and has wider information because it has a wider sources directly linked to it compared to the news delivered on television. Like a lot of netizens, we really rely on both the TV news and e-news for updates. We take out our gadgets at WiFi areas and check the weather from screens of our phones or laptops. We make it a point that bringing our umbrellas and jackets are worth it. We So which kinds of news should we rely on during our busy days at work and in school? Which one should we refer to during our journalistic projects? My suggestion is that you look closely at the sources. Where does the news come from? How did they come such a conclusion in the news. Be more and more curious if possible. If you try to see which news contains more truth, then you can see which one is believable for future reference, and which of them is valid. Although e-news is much more accessible nowadays, it doesn’t mean that we can rely on them easily. This is why turning on the television and flipping to the news channels takes so much more effort for our curiosity because news on TV seems like the last thing to rely on or get to when we want to hear the real deal, unless the reporters say during live broadcast that they made a mistake with the facts. The same thing goes for radio broadcasting, minus the pictures and videos. You should also look into the source if it’s prominent or not. Is the website famous for their news? Is it known globally? Double - check to find out. No matter what we do, the delivery of news will keep on evolving as times pass. It is getting more and more accessible. But remember this, stick to the sources known for good and reliable news. Be a responsible news reader.

Dancing for good by Justine Escobal
Gangnam Style, Harlem Shake, Gwiyomi --these are just some of the many dance crazes that the youth nowadays are getting into. It’s not just the pupils, but perhaps also their teachers. Not just the inmates, but the police officers too. Many videos are posted, viewed, shared or liked and reproduced in the internet by random people; though not really sure what the songs mean. Just learn how to record and do your thing in front of the camera as the addictive music plays. In our modern world, these dance crazes can bring something good. We are aware that dancing is a form of exercise. It helps us move lightly and easily along with a type of music. Plus, it boosts our confidence through performing in some proper or just random moments. We have the pleasure to enjoy the dances, as much as we can, for as long as it still remains a fad or fun enough for all ages to enjoy. I admit that it lightens the atmosphere when one is stressed out with homework, assignments, and projects. For those who are working, they find it as a form of self - expression whenever they get a much - needed break. Who doesn’t want to dance away the stress that we get in our busy lives right? Yet, let me just say that we need to keep an eye out for something else as well --- these kinds of dancing also has their dark sides. Dance crazes are like dancing along to the music, whatever the moves are. The negative side is that, we get too interested, until we have that urge to dance, or create different moves even in an inappropriate place and time. It can also possibly develop hyperactivity. And worse, it could lead to insanity! Some people even get to the point where they base the end of the world according to the number of Youtube views. We become so addicted that we overanalyze these dances or make it a part of our everyday lives. The dance crazes are spreading rapidly now, and what’s good to it, is that it spreads through the internet, so everybody connected will easily know what’s in and what’s out. It shouldn’t surprise us that there will always be a new dance crazes just waiting for a boost on Youtube views or Facebook likes and shares. Be careful now because these days, a “like” or a “share” can change one’s fame in seconds. Dance crazes are not just about shaking your body with every beat of the music. We must put it in our minds that too much of something can be bad. It’s not as easy as it seems, although you can say that not everyone will care what actions you make, or whether what you’re doing with these dances can be too serious or corny. Doing these “popular” or “in” kinds of dances also needs self - control. We must control our urge to dance, especially if we are in a formal party or in any inappropriate place or audience. We can’t just invite anyone or randomly burst into a popular dance craze just because everyone is doing it. Let’s try to mellow down with the trends these days. Spreading such thoughts for the good and welfare of the people is a must.
