No one told me falling would be this quiet From the clouds I watched them As the earth grew wild in silent riot And from abundance they grew compliant, Complacent Adjacent to apathy, but not quite there, Layered with lethargy, but that may not be fair To judge them so harshly when they do not care To see boundless beauty everywhere. In the roots of the earth and the roots of the soul What happened to make humanity this cold? So, I surrender to the mortal fault of gravity To help reverse this horrible tragedy

“To see boundless beauty everywhere”

“What happened to make humanity this cold?”

“To help reverse this horrible tragedy”

Concrete cracks like permanent thunder, Shattering the spell of modernity you’re under. Wildflowers spray like the ocean mist That you missed as a child When you were innocent and life was worth while. It can still be that way my dear. Just acknowledge the present. It’s vivid. It’s here. You distract yourself from it to cope with the fear That the smile you wear is full of hollow cheer. That’s okay. Crystal still glitters like it’s unbreakable, Although its fragility is unmistakable.

“Concrete cracks like permanent thunder

“When you were innocent and life was worth while It can still be that way my dear”

“fragility is unmistakable

Colliding chaos Waves against rocks Crash Fall Sweeping silence Deafening in its power If only you’d turn and speak If only you’d turn and listen To what’s said To what’s not To stop the drifting And distrustful sifting to each other Are you willing to work For her, for him? Not to keep them from walking But to keep them from wanting to.

“If only you’d turn and speak If only you’d turn and listen”

“stop the drifting”

“Not to keep them from walking But to keep them from wanting to

The mirror only reflects a fraction, A fraction of facets that aren’t factual. Diamond to the light My dear, it’s a fight To fly your kite, Despite winds of insecurity. Appearance is only a part, A part that stands apart from the art of self; The glaze on the face of the vase Not the flowers inside That are always growing, Growing and showing their radiance No matter the vessel they’re in.

“Appearance is only a part, A part that stands apart from the art of self

“To fly your kite, Despite winds of insecurity”

“The mirror only reflects a fraction, A fraction of facets that aren’t factual“

The taming of love A fistful of water Unable to be grasped In the grip of logic, Tucked away in a dark pocket. Don’t hold it. Share it, bathe in it; Drink it, drown in it. Pour it out and watch it nourish. Watch it grow, watch it flourish. Gather together, Then you’ll see That a grateful heart is the height of beauty

“Share it, bathe in it Drink it, drown in it

“Pour it out and watch it nourish. Watch it grow, watch it flourish“

To live is to see The beauty in all things, In all people, In the self, In all selves of the past; Fractured fragments of a mosaic filled. Trap the colored light. Save it for a rainy day. Send it my way when there’s no more to say. Give me the courage to cross the bay Back into heaven, Into a world without you all; The same as I left it, But not the same as I fled.

“The beauty in all things,

In all people,

In the self,

In all selves of the past

“Back into heaven, Into a world without you all”
