This year 123 acts representing 154 performers from 74 bi-state high schools, performing arts organizations, and homeschoolers competed in the Preliminary round. The Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundation is excited to present 14 talented finalists performing on the stage of the Fabulous Fox, competing for scholarships, prizes, awards, and future performance opportunities. Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundation Mission Statement: The Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundation fosters, promotes, and encourages young people in the St. Louis region to discover and participate in the joy and wonder of live performances. Vision: For young people in the St. Louis area to have more opportunities to create, perform, and appreciate live performances. Educational Encores are an interactive encounter with touring Broadway cast and crew members providing the opportunity for young people to enhance their live theatre experience. St. Louis High School Musical Theatre Awards is a collaboration between Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundation, The Muny and The Fabulous Fox. This program is designed to celebrate outstanding achievement in high school musical theatre and is modeled on The Tony Awards®. Next Stop Broadway is a week-long performing arts program taught by Broadway professionals.

A brief history of the St. Louis Teen Talent Competition Mary Strauss, co-owner of the Fox Theatre, wanted to give the opportunity for St. Louis’ talented teens to perform on the Fox stage. In 1985, long before

“America’s Got Talent” and “American Idol” Mary created the St. Louis Teen Talent Showcase to annually recognize and encourage talented teenagers in the performing arts to compete, win prizes and scholarships, and performance opportunities. The competition selection process and final event on the Fox stage gave participants the anticipation, hard work, and thrill of a Broadway show! Fast forward 31 years when Mary Strauss became President of the Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundation’s board, she felt the time was right to

Lucy Schene Performing “Even Though” from I Love You Because Composed by Joshua Salzman Lyrics by Ryan Cunningham
Junior, Kirkwood High School, Age 17 Lucy has studied voice for nine years and received tap, jazz, hip hop, and ballet dance training for eleven years. She has performed in 17 theatre productions and has performed with the St. Louis Children’s Choir. Lucy plans to attend college and major in musical theatre.
Alex Chen Performing “Chopin Etude in C-sharp Minor, Op. 10, No. 4” Composed by Frederic Francois Chopin Sophomore, Marquette High School, Age 16 Alex began piano lessons at five years old with Zena Ilyashov and has won top prizes in many piano competitions across the country. In addition to piano, Alex plays cello in his high school orchestra. After high school, Alex plans to attend college and is considering pursuing a degree in applied physics or aerospace.

Woodmore Sophomore, Innovation High School, Age 16 Shaniya has studied voice for nine years and is a longtime member of the pre-professional musical theatre program at COCA, and has appeared in numerous productions and special events. She plans to attend Howard University to study musical theatre and psychology.

She has performed in nearly 30 productions. Lexie plans to attend college to further her dance and music education.
Arielle Pedersen Performing “The Girl in 14G” Composed by Jeanine Tesori & Dick Scanlan Lyrics by Jeanine Tesori Junior, Valley Park High School, Age 17 Arielle has had seven years of training in voice and acting; and 14 years of tap, jazz, hip hop, ballet, modern and contemporary dance training. She has performed in both community (11) and equity (3) musical theatre productions. Arielle plans to attend college to study musical theatre and vocal performance.
Rachel A. Jackson Performing “Envy/Peace” Written by Rachel A. Jackson Senior, Metro Academic & Classical High School, Age 18 Rachel has been writing poetry for nine years and is a performing artist with the St. Louis Story Stitchers Artists Collective. Rachel will graduate with a high school diploma and an Associate Degree in General Transfer Studies and will attend Webster University in the fall to study music.

Srijana Akurati, Sophomore, Marquette High School, Age 16 Srisahithi Tadakamalla, Sophomore, Marquette High School, Age 16 Mounica Valluru, Junior, Parkway South High School, Age 17 Srijana, Srisahithi, and Mounica have all received eight years of dance training from the Kuchipudi Art Academy where they are senior disciples. They are sincerely grateful to their teacher Sujatha Vinjamuri for her guidance, inspiration, and profound influence. Srijana, Srisahithi, and Mounica all raise funds for different charities through performances held by their dance academy. After high school, Srijana, Srisahithi, and Mounica plan to attend college to pursue careers in science or medicine.
Alexander Unseth Performing “Beethoven on Broadway!” Composed by Alexander Unseth Accompanied by Steve Neale Senior, St. Louis University High School, Age 18 Alex has studied cello for 13 years, piano for five years, and conduction for the past two years. He has performed as a cellist with the Community Music School of Webster University’s orchestras; the St. Louis Metro District 8, Missouri All-State, and St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestras. Alex will attend the University of Missouri KC to study business and music.
Aubory Bugg Performing “If You Were the Rain” Music & Lyrics by Stephen Day Junior, Granite City High School, Age 16 Aubory taught herself to play guitar and piano six years ago and she has been singing since she was old enough to speak. Aubory has performed at numerous public engagements and school events. After high school Aubory plans to attend college for a BFA in music theory.
Zoë Meier Performing “Die Ihr Schwebet” Composed by Hugo Wolf After a poem by Lope de Vega Accompanied by Jon Garrett Senior, Francis Howell North High School, Age 17 Zoë has studied opera/voice and dance for four years and acting for nine years. She is the winner of numerous vocal awards and has performed in thirty productions. Zoë is currently considering her college options but will attend college this fall and major in vocal performance.
Finn McNamee Performing to “Tenno’s Tale” Composed by Jeffrey Carter Choreographed by Chauncey Kroner Junior, Metro Academic & Classical High School, Age 16 Finn has received training from Circus Harmony in acrobatics, object manipulation, balancing and aerial skills for more than ten years. For the past nine years, Finn has been performing at the City Museum and makes appearances in Circus Flora productions. After high school, Finn plans to attend college to study engineering.

Amiyah McClure, Senior, University City High School, Age 17 Amani Goodson, Senior, Parkway North High School, Age 18 Ravyn Stubblefield, Junior, Hazelwood Central High School, Age 16 All have received training from Best Dance and Talent Center Dance Studio and are all members of the Best Superstars Competitive Dance Team. Amani Goodson has received training in tap, ballet, hip hop and contemporary dance for fifteen years. Amani will major in dance and minor in business when she attends Alabama State University in the fall. Amiyah Harlan has had eleven years of dance training in tap, ballet, hip hop, contemporary and poms. Amiyah will attend the University of Nevada, Las Vegas this fall to pursue a degree in aerospace engineering. Amaiya Knuckles-Johnson has had fifteen years of dance training in tap, ballet, hip hop and contemporary. This fall, Amaiya will attend Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville to pursue a degree in nursing. Amiyah McClure has had fourteen years of dance training in tap, ballet, hip hop, contemporary and poms. After high school, Amiyah will pursue a degree in pediatric nursing at Alabama State University. Ravyn Stubblefield has received training in tap, ballet, hip hop, contemporary dance, and poms for nine years. After high school, Ravyn plans to attend attend Florida A&M and pursue a degree in nursing. Anijah Warlick has had ten years of dance training in tap, ballet, hip hop, contemporary and poms. After high school, Anijah will pursue a degree in nursing or medicine while attending Duke University.
Troy Staten, Jr. Performing “Not My Father’s Son” from Kinky Boots Music & Lyrics by Cyndi Lauper Senior, McCluer High School, Age 18 Troy has received two years of voice training both privately and at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis. He has studied ballet, tap and jazz dance for three years at COCA. Troy has appeared in eleven productions, including many shows at The Muny. After high school, Troy plans to attend college to pursue musical theatre studies in performing, writing, and producing.

Production Team Tony Parise, Director/Writer. Tony’s career began in St. Louis in the children’s chorus at The Muny. He went on to appear in the National tour of A Chorus Line and was on Broadway in 42nd Street, Me and My Girl, and City of Angels. Directing credits include Hello, Dolly!, Oliver!, Me and My Girl and many others both nationally and abroad. He choreographed the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade for eight years and was the Director of the Hasty Pudding Theatricals at Harvard University for 23 years. In addition to the St. Louis Teen Talent Competition, Tony is also the Creative Director of The Festival of Lights in Kiener Plaza.

STAGES Performing Arts Academy Shaniya Perry and Lucy Schene (finalists), and Calia Grinston and Brea Johnson (semi-finalists) have been awarded scholarships to be applied to tuition/private lessons/attending class(es). Each recipient will also receive a voucher for the STAGES Collection.
Yvonne Meyer Hare, Choreographer, grew up in St. Louis, training with Gerri Stretz and the St. Louis Youth Ballet. Professionally, she began at the St. Louis Muny Opera, performing in over 35 shows, assisting some of Broadway's finest choreographers and directors. Choreography credits include: Hilton Head Summer Playhouse, St. Louis Fox Theater/Fox Tellerettes, St. Louis Variety Club Telethon, Rhythm Revue Universal Studio Show and Walt Disney Show, and the 80th Anniversary Celebration of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. She is currently Owner/Director of the Gerri Stretz and Yvonne Meyer Professional Dance Center.
Steve Neale is an award-winning composer, conductor and pianist. With a degree in Film Scoring from the Berklee College of Music, Steve has written and produced music for film, video games, and live theater around the country. Steve directs the renowned choir at St. Margaret of Scotland parish, is adjunct faculty in the Leigh Gerdine Conservatory of Music at Webster University. He sings in the a cappella celtic group, The Wee Heavies, and has music directed and done sound design for many local and national theater companies.

Ben Nordstrom, Emcee, is a professional actor whose stage credits include roles in musicals and plays, Off-Broadway and regional theatres across the country. He has been seen or heard in commercials for Explore St. Louis, the St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis Blues, and Schnucks. Ben is the recipient of a St. Louis Theatre Circle Award and two Kevin Kline Awards. Ben serves as the Development Director at the St. Louis Children's Choirs.
Judges
Ken Page is a St. Louis native with a career spanning over 45 years. He is most widely known as the voice of “Oogie Boogie” in “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” Broadway/UK credits: Guys & Dolls, Ain’t Misbehavin’, Cats as Old Deuteronomy, and The Wiz, to name but a few. Ken has performed in 42 musicals with The Muny and has been ‘the voice of The Muny’ since 2015. Film credits include Dreamgirls, All Dogs Go to Heaven, and Torch Song Trilogy. Ken is a 2021 L.A. OVATION AWARD nominee for Best Featured Actor for his role of Chuck in Grumpy Old Men.
Taylor Louderman is a Missouri native and 2018 Tony Nominee for originating the role of Regina George in Tina Fey’s Broadway Musical Mean Girls. She is currently playing ‘Tami’ on NBC’s KENAN alongside Kenan Thompson and Don Johnson. Other Broadway credits include Kinky Boots, and Campbell in Bring It On the Musical! (Broadway and National tour). Taylor has appeared in four Muny productions. Taylor started a song-writing competition for young artists called Write Out Loud and wrote a children’s musical which premiered at the place where her performing career began: Ozark Actor’s Theatre in Rolla, MO. @taylizlou

Denise Thimes is a St. Louis native, Jazz Vocalist and Recording Artist. Denise has performed with Wynton Marsalis and Clark Terry, has shared the stage with Bobby McFerrin and Bucky Pizzarelli. Denise toured Paris with David Sanborn, sung for the Queen of Thailand, Queen Elizabeth II, and was chosen by Aretha Franklin to perform for her 72nd birthday celebration. Most say that her acting is just as great as her singing. When Denise is not performing, she serves as the Founder & Executive Director of the Mildred Thimes Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research. www.denisethimes.com

Antonio Douthit-Boyd
Antonio Douthit-Boyd After a fulfilling dance career in New York City, Antonio Douthit-Boyd was named Co-Artistic Director of Dance at COCA, where he had begun his dance training at the age of 16. Antonio joined the Dance Theatre of Harlem Company in 2000 and rose to Soloist in 2003. He joined the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in 2004, where he danced as a principal artist with the company for 12 years, performing for President and First Lady Michelle Obama, Queen Elizabeth II, and Michael Jackson. Antonio is an ABT® Certified Teacher and is also on faculty at Washington University in St. Louis, teaching ballet as a Distinguished Performing Artist.
Carl Nappa
Audrey Kwong serves as the Artistic Operations Manager for the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. She oversees scheduling, touring, the orchestra’s Opera Theatre of St. Louis collaborations, and the orchestra’s electronic media initiatives, including The Nine Network’s Night at the Symphony broadcasts, the Live at Powell Hall series and other special projects. Audrey holds a bachelor’s degree in violin performance and is an active violinist, Audrey is deeply passionate about film music, education, and chamber music and appeared in The Soloist starring Jamie Foxx. In St. Louis she can be found playing violin with the folk-rock band Boxcar.
As a Producer, Engineer and Educator, Carl Nappa has a career that spans more than 25 years. He serves as a Governor for the Memphis Chapter of the Recording Academy (The Grammy Awards). Carl started his career in his hometown of Boston before moving to New York City to engineer at the Hit Factory Recording Studios. He has worked on records as an Engineer, Mixer, or Producer totaling over 79 million sales in the US alone. Carl worked with Nelly for 10 years and came to St. Louis to serve as Executive Director of Vatterott College ex’treme Institute. Carl owns The Saint Louis Recording Club, a recording studio in St. Louis and is teaching at St. Louis' Webster University as a Visiting Artist. www.carlnappa.com
