Springbreak: going or staying? Springbreak: going If you're trading your late winter outerwear jackets for bathing suits, and are about to escape the cold weather for a week, you are lucky! Here are the 5 things to pack in order to make the most of your springbreak: 1. Phone Numbers: find out if the place where you are staying has an emergency number. Also, carry the number for a reliable ground transportation service (i.e. taxi company or the hotel shuttle) with you at all times. 2. Sunglasses: The higher the UVA and UVB protection the darker the shades, not to mention the darker the shades the easier it is to check our the guy or girl laying on the other side of the pool without making it too obvious. 3. SPF: if possible try to find a waterproof sunscreen so that you don’t have to reapply every time you are splashed by a wave relaxing on your raft in Caribbean. Even then, be generous in reapplying sunscreen. 4. Clothing: pack at least one hat and a long sleeve shirt in case the sun gets to be much. 5. Aspirine & co.: packing over the counter medicines for pain relief and stomach distress will make you a popular person after a wild night out.

Green Beauty: Lisa Ann Skincare GREEN POINTS Hand made in small batches to ensure freshness.
When asked what inspired her to to start a natural bath and body products' line, Lisa Kennaly, creator of Lisa Ann Skincare, explains how, when she grew up with her mom, she used to do her own "at home" facials using ingredients found in their kitchen. She would boil a pot of water and "steam" her face and put egg whites on it until they hardened.
She was inspired to try her hands at making body scrubs and asked a bunch of friends to be her "testers". They gave her great feedback and her products have evolved considerably since then. She finally launched her line of natural, cold process soaps, lip balms, bath bombs, sugar scrubs, body butters and more, and she has not looked back.
Back then it never occurred to her that she would be in this business one day. She did however, go on to college and studied "consumer affairs" which inspired her to be very aware of consumer protection issues, ingredients in products etc. She has always been an avid label reader and has always been concerned with ingredients in products and how they affect all of us.
Careful attention has been put into all the ingredients used to make Lisa Ann products. Fair Trade unrefined shea butter, olive oil, cocoa butter, pomegranate, green tea are all ingredients that have amazing benefits for your skin and are in many of Lisa Ann products.
Lisa loves the many aspects of her business but the best part is when a customer tells her how much After many years in sales for both the publishing they love Lisa Ann products and that their skin feels and packaging industries she decided she longed so much better after using them! That is the greatest to put her love for creating "as natural as possible" reward. skin and body care products skills to good use.
No petrochemicals or parabens are used. Products contain antioxidant ingredients such as green tea, pomegranate seed oil and vitamin E which help protect against cell damage. Fair Trade Shea Butter is a key ingredient in almost all of Lisa Ann products. Shea butter has been used for centuries as a soothing moisturizer. It is rich in Vitamin A and is perfect for dry, cracked heals, elbows, hands etc. Olive oil is also used in many of Lisa Ann products, which is a wonderfully moisturizing and luxurious oil.

10 steps to perfect eyebrows (from the Pros)
Eyebrows are to the face what a frame is to a painting. They enrich the natural beauty of your face, but they must not be too big nor too small - otherwise the balance of your features is disturbed. Brows that are well shaped can make the most dramatic impact of any facial feature to create a beautiful look. But what if you weren't born with the perfect set of eyebrows? What if you've plucked too many over the years, or you just don't know where to start? Here are the 10 simple steps and a few tips from the Pros that will give you perfect brows, no matter how impossible it seems to you right now!

10 steps to perfect eyebrows (from the Pros) 1) Location, location, location First of all, you should locate the critical boundaries of your brows. To do so, stand in front of a mirror and place a brush or pencil vertically against the side of your nose. Where the pencil lands by your brow is where your brow should begin. Keep the base of the pencil still, and rotate the tip until it's aligned with the center of the pupil of the eye: that's where the high point of the arch should be. Then, rotate again the tip of the pencil until it reaches the outer lower edge of the eye: that's where the brow should end. The beginning and end of brow should be at the same height. Sounds too complicated? Jackie, founder and owner of Portland's premiere eyebrow and waxing bar Betty Brow suggests you start with a brow consultation: have an esthetician measure your brows to ensure where your brows should start, arch and end, as some people have high, medium and low arch points.
2) Nature knows best Never try to change the shape of your natural brow arch with tweezing, it simply ruins the shape of the brow. You should rather enhance your natural arch when tweezing hairs. When tweezing, pull skin taut and remove hairs one by one by pulling them in the direction of the hair growth. 3) A warm touch Tweeze brows after a shower or bath when skin is softer and pores are more open, or place a warm wash cloth over your brows for 5/10 minutes before tweezing. 4) Baby Steps Ramy, the Brow Guru from Ramy Beauty Therapy suggests you tweeze from underneath the brow, removing one row of hair from beginning of brow to end. If necessary, remove second row of hair from directly underneath arch, to open it up. "Then clean the hairs I refer to as no man's land, those hairs that are not part of your eyebrow or part of your hairline, but exist somewhere in the middle." 5) Don't overdo it When it comes to eyebrows, the biggest mistake people make is overplucking. As Jackie from Betty Brow told us: "Big, bold and beautiful eyebrows are back!" If you do overtweeze, Ji Baek, owner of Rescue Beauty Lounge in Manhattan suggests you stimulate hair growth by massaging brows with a toothbrush. 6) Easy Solutions If you actually did overpluck, you can fill your eyebrows in by pressing a brow shadow into your brow. Elke Von Freudenberg, author and eyebrow specialist, has a tip for you: use a brow shadow color a few shades lighter than your hair color. It will blend in easier and you'll avoid the too dark and heavy brow look. 7) Stay Put Here is a way to tame unruly brows: Elke Von Freudenberg suggested to "use a brow wax or pomade to keep thicker, heavier brows in control while the brow clear mascara is for thinner and lighter brows." For more brow tips, visit themodelbrow.com. MORE NEWS ON BLOG.NINEBYZERO.COM
10 steps to perfect eyebrows (from the Pros) 8) Innovative Cosmetics Because washed-out, over-tweezed, over-waxed eyebrows instantly add years to your face, we recommend trying one of the latest eyebrow growth stimulators, like LiBrow, ModelCo Lash + Brow Growth Stimulator or Sovage Eyebrow Volumizer. They will make your brows look fuller, shapelier and more well-defined. 9) In the Limelight Plucking and waxing is not enough to have perfect brows. Elke Von Freudenberg tells her clients to use a highlight shadow to emphasize their brow shape, and also use in between brow shapings to hide ingrowing hairs. 10) Brow Sisterhood Remember, no 2 eyebrows are alike, go for balance rather than perfection. As the Betty Brow staff said: "Each brow has their own identity on your face so treat them as sisters not twins".
Colorescience Eyebrow Stencils creates well-defined, eye catching brows. To be used with a small brow brush and powder, or an eyebrow pencil, for perfectly "in shape" brows.
The Model Brows Hi-Lights make your eyebrows look sharper, more defined, and bring an eyebrow lift effect as well. These Hi-Lite shadows created by Eyebrow Specialist and Celebrity Makeup Artist Elke Von Freudenberg also work great to mask growing in brows until that next appointment by creating a shimmer glow to distract from unruly hairs.

Spring Dreams
The new Spring 2009 make up collections make you think of flowery meadows and walks in the soft spring sunlight. Like a Bollywood film, Nicolas Degennes creates an extravaganza of colour to make everyday life a dream. “I saw India as a bombardment of colours bursting forth to the rhythm of filmi music. I had already been a fan of this infectious, upbeat music for a long time, but of course it was the imagery that really grabbed me — Bollywood and its palettes of colours burst with beams of light. Melodramatic love stories… But love stories all the same, with all the emotion, the ardour, the passion of hearts that are torn apart and the struggle through hardship… The stuff of life! And the women! So beautiful, vivacious, dazzling… and yet so sweetly demure. A homage to Indian beauty, heightened with a discreet air of eroticism and anchored in the purest tradition. What I adore in these love sagas is the eternal femininity in a showcase of flashy, ultra-kitsch glamour and gaudy music.

“I imagine the STRAF hotel as a type of installation; a concept from which I began to extract a multitude of elements associated with contemporary art, such as 'Arte Povera’, hence the easthetic development is based on an ethical criterion of recycling objects and placing them in a new surrounding”. Vincenzo De Cotiis has achieved an abstract and surreal atmosphere by working precisely with this criterion. These materials, chosen for their raw and natural components, have been almost completely developed manually and the expression of the art work significantly relies on the play of light and reflection.

You see bare cement used for the stairs and floors, oxidised copper and split slate; torn and aged gauze is trapped between sheets of glass so forming autoilluminating elements that induce an atmosphere of warmth despite the hard materials used. This preference for the half finished stands out from the norm in which every single detail has undergone sophisticated elaborations. The STRAF project arose from the need to turn a new page regarding the currently clichéd concept of a “hotel”.

STRAF demonstrates a differentiation between the types of rooms and creates defined spaces wich are characterized by materials that are combined according to two main approaches: black slate, or cement combined with burnished brass, with mirrored walls giving an overall effect of space. The personalized design of the rooms demonstrates macro-decorative elements which, according to aesthetic value, create an effect of expansion for the space by using illusionary perspectives, such as wall panelling and palisades that appear to extend into infinity. The architectural elements of the rooms with the “well-being corner blend into this vision, leaving behind technological details in favour of a relaxing, isolated dimension. The individual massage, aroma and chromo therapy areas are within sight but separated from the sleeping area by crystal walls.

This hotel is identified by its alternative to clichés and standardisations. It is a “place of choice” that turns away from production line furnishings. This emphasis is reflected throughout the Hotel, from the bathrooms which are fitted with worn mirrors and designer sinks, to the tailor made chairs, sofas and the lighting.
