W hat’s Inside Elisabel Balderrama, instructor for Creative Photography (pg 33) is a professional photographer based in San Antonio. She received a Bachelors in Fine Art Photography from The Art Institute of Austin in 2012. She has been photographing weddings and family portraits for 8 years and has dabbled in fine art and food photography as well.

Victor Maas is a general practice a t t o r n ey h e r e i n S a n A n t o n i o. He has personally flipped or wholesaled more than 100 homes in the last ten years and shares his exper tise in the new Real Estate Investing 101 series and other real estate classes on buying, selling, and flipping homes (pg 14).

Julie Cohen holds an MFA in Nonfiction Writing from Columbia University where she also taught undergraduate writing. She is a former managing editor and contributing writer for Sauce Magazine, a food magazine based out of St. Louis. Also a former high school English teacher, she currently teaches writing at University of Incarnate Word. Join her for Novel Writing 101 and Creative Nonfiction (pg 21).

Pa m e l a F e r n a n d e z - H u m bl e i s Director of the Miss San Antonio Latina pageant, a celebration of beauty and poise, as well as the celebration of the Hispanic culture. Former Editor-in-Chief of Amuze Magazine , one of San Antonio’s premier social journals and entertainment publications, Pamela brings her extensive knowledge to our Beauty and Style classes (pg 17) and Children’s Etiquette (pg 36).

Monique Johnson is our amazing Yoga & Pilates instructor. Monique has been a Certified Yoga Instructor s i n c e 2 0 0 8 a n d a n A d va n c e d Cer tified Pilates Instructor since 2009. She has personally done Yoga and Pilates since 1998 and has a love of health, wellness, and psychology. When she’s not teaching Pilates and Yoga (pg 35), she is coordinator for the CATCH Healthy Habits program for OASIS.

Adult & Community Education offers non-credit classes to all members of the community for personal enrichment and professional development. You do not have to be a resident of Northside School District to take our classes. attendees 16 years and older. Children under 16 are admitted only with prior permission of the program coordinator and instructor and must be accompanied by a paying adult. Children may not accompany adults to class and we do not provide child care. Youth Classes Please adhere to listed age

requirements. Unless designated as a “Mom & Me” class, parents will be expected to leave the classroom once class starts. All instructors are background checked and we adhere to strict safety policies. Registration All classes, including free

classes, require pre-registration. Many classes fill up so register early to avoid disappointment. If space is available, registrations are taken until the first day of the class. Early registrations are encouraged to avoid class cancellations due to low enrollment. Registration for some cooking and crafting classes may close two business days before class time to allow instructors to purchase supplies for class. Fees Financial support for our program

Interested in teaching? We are always looking for experienced i n s t r u c t o r s a n d n e w c o u r s e i d e a s. Our instructors come from varied backgrounds, from Northside teachers to business leaders, and all share one characteristic: a passion for sharing their area of interest. If you have an idea for a class, please visit our website and submit a proposal detailing the course you would like to teach and what makes you the perfect person to teach it. Our coordinators review all applications based on our program needs and student requests. We plan four to five months in advance for our semesters, and work to select seasonallyappropriate classes. If your proposal fits a need, the coordinators will be in touch to further discuss your ideas.

COMMUNITY EDUCATION Since the establishment of the Community Education Department in 1984, Northside Independent School District has fostered the concept of lifelong learning for all members of our society. The General Educational Development Diploma, also called the High School Equivalency Certificate in Texas, provides proof of the completion of an alternative high school education. 397-8100

ENGLISH FOR SPEAKERS OF OTHER LANGUAGES (ESOL CLASSES) English for Speakers of Other Languages classes help adults improve their English proficiency with curriculum focusing on reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. ESOL students will gain knowledge and skills that will help them become active and informed parents, workers and community members. 397-8109 DISTANCE LEARNING Distance learning classes are designed for students who are unable to attend regularly scheduled Adult Education classes Monday through Friday. The sessions are held primarily online using Internet activities with face-to-face workbook practice and tutoring sessions. 397-8952 PREPARING ADULTS FOR COLLEGE AND CAREER TRANSITION (PACCT) PACCT is an intensive college preparation program designed to help adult students gain the knowledge and skills necessary for long-term college success. Course content areas include Introduction to College Algebra, Introduction to College Writing, and Student Development. 397-8129 LEARNING TREE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM Learning doesn’t stop when the bell rings. The Learning Tree After School program provides a safe and positive environment for children while parents are still at w o r k .
