ACRYLIC PAINTING LEVEL 2: FUNDAMENTALS ART105 Master the fundamentals of acrylic painting as you explore principles and theory of color mixing, color schemes, and warm and cool primaries. Learn about value, compliments, triad, analogous and monochromatic hues, the color wheel, how to lay out your palette and keep order while you work. We’ll discuss composition, selection of underpainting color, and how to create a focal point. Canvas preparation, texturizing, and background techniques will also be covered. Create your own masterpiece 11” x 14” or larger. Group critiques will be held weekly to constructively discuss painting challenges. An optional $30 supply fee provides paint and one canvas. WATER-MIXABLE OIL PAINTING ART137 Now that you’ve somewhat mastered painting with acrylics and/or watercolor, you are ready to experience working with water-mixable oils. These paints bridge the gap between traditional oil paints and acrylic. In this class, you will learn the characteristics of watermixable oils and paint a monochromatic (using one color) 8”x10” study on paper. The second painting will be created on canvas. By the end of the session, a ready to frame creation or two will have been completed. This class is designed for those with intermediate painting ability. Not a beginner’s class. Prerequisite: Acrylics Level 1 and Level 2 or teacher approval. Each student will supply their own brushes and 11”X14” canvas. A supply list is available for those who wish to get their own supplies, approximately $150. An optional $30 cash materials fee is payable to the instructor for necessary paints and mediums.

This elegant form of handwriting is created using a pointed nib & is perfect for embellishing envelopes & art pieces. Calligrapher Deborah Bowen will introduce you to this beautiful style. DRAWING TECHNIQUES FOR TEENS AND ADULTS ART115 Do you have a knack for drawing and want to develop that talent? Learn tips to make your drawings more interesting. Learn to draw accurately as you work through various exercises to help you see value, proportions, negative space and other elements necessary to develop a drawing. This hands-on, computer-based course is for those new to the website or who have come to a road block and need direction on how to further research and create their family trees. Your experienced instructor will introduce you at a high-level on how to use the search functions, understanding the “green leaf,” building a tree, and will cover each Category (Census, Birth, Newspapers, and etc.) You must be a current paid Ancestry.com subscriber in order to see all documents and enroll in the class. CHINESE MANDARIN LAN102 A beginning class in Conversational Chinese using Mandarin, the national standard language in China, required in government, education, military and business. SIMPLY PILATES HAW130 If you are wanting a gentle yet effective workout this is the place for you. This class offers standing warm-ups with light cardio, all exercises are Pilates based. Next we move on to a Mat-based (Pilates) section which targets core, thighs, arms, back, & gluteal muscles. CHI GONG EXERCISE (I CHIN CHING) HAW112 I Chin Ching or Yijin jing roughly translates to the “change of tendon and muscle.” The idea is that by tensing your muscles through static holds/stretches and dynamic motions you can build stronger, more flexible muscles and tendons, while achieving better balance and coordination. That’s a lot of promise for just 49 exercises! Many of the Qi Gong exercises are similar to yoga postures and these can be done by anyone. No experience or uniform is required - just wear comfortable clothes.

TAI CHI FOUNDATIONS HAW132 This weekly class is designed primarily for complete beginners, but is also a streamlined way for experienced practitioners to practice the meditative movements of Tai Chi without the overhead of learning new long forms. Tai Chi Foundations focuses on loosening the joints, releasing tension, guided meditations, breathing, chi kung (qigong), and short segments of Tai Chi movements that can be learned and practiced in a single class. Do you want and need more energy to make it through the day? During this one night knowledge and experience based course, we will discuss the importance of portion control, healthful food choices, aerobic exercise, and weight training. WINE TASTING TOUR AND A VISIT TO DRIPPING SPRINGS, TX TVL117 Springtime begs for a road trip to the Hill Country to enjoy the fresh air, blue skies and wildflowers! On this trip we will make a brief stop in the town of Dripping Springs for their Annual Founders Day Festival, an event that includes music and entertainment, food, drink, crafts and vendors. HOMESCHOOL SCIENCE FAIR (AGES 5-13) YSCN152 The Homeschool Science Fair is a chance for the homeschool community to celebrate and encourage the love of science amongst students. From stars to skittles, students in grades K-8 will practice the scientific method to test hypotheses, perform experiments, record observations, and draw conclusions. All science projects will be presented in the form of a report, display board, and demonstration. They will be on display to share with other students, parents and judges for prize consideration. Prizes will be awarded by grade, and students can choose to participate without prize consideration (non-competing students will receive participation certificates). Setup begins at 11:30 am. POLICES & PROCEDURES 1. GENERAL INFORMATION Northside ISD Adult & Community Education offers non-credit classes to all members of the community for personal enrichment and professional development. You do not have to be a resident of Northside School District to take our classes.

5. FEES & PAY TYPES Financial support for our program comes from class fees. Tuition fees are due at registration. Visa and Mastercard can be used to pay for class online, by phone, by mail and in person. We can also accept cash and check payments in our office. Returned Checks: A $25 fee will be charged for each returned check. 6. MATERIALS FEES Some classes have a materials fee which is payable to the instructor in the first class. MATERIAL FEES ARE EXACT CASH ONLY

2. ADULT CLASSES Our classes are designed for attendees 16 years and older. Youth 15 years and under may enroll into a class with permission of the program coodinator and instructor. Enrolled youth must be accompanied by a paying adult in the same program. Children may not accompany adults to class and we do not provide child care. 3. YOUTH CLASSES Please adhere to listed age requirements in program description. Unless designated as a “Parent & Me” class, parents will be expected to leave the classroom once class starts. All instructors are background checked and we adhere to strict safety policies. All youth camps and classes require completion of a Youth Waiver/Information Form to participate in programs. The form must be signed and submitted to registration office prior to class attendance. You may obtain a copy of the Youth Waiver/Information Form by visiting our office or by downloading at www.nisd.net/ ace. Before participating in youth programs, parents and guardians should review the Parent Handbook also available in our office or by downloading at www.nisd.net/ace. 4. REGISTRATION You may register for classes online, by phone, by mail or in person. All classes, including free classes, require pre-registration. Many classes fill up so register early to avoid disappointment. If space is available, registrations are taken until the first day of the class. Early registrations are encouraged to avoid class cancellations due to low enrollment. Registration for some cooking and crafting classes may close two business days before class time to allow instructors to purchase supplies for class.

This fee is noted in the class description and is in addition to the class fee paid upon registration. Some classes may require students to bring supplies; refer to class description. 7. REFUND POLICY Refunds minus a $6 processing fee will be given if requested at least 2 business days before the day of the first class meeting. Local tours must be cancelled at least 5 business days before the event. After that time, no refunds can be given. Refund requests must be made by calling our office at 397-8100 (option 2). We cannot process refund requests by email. Instructors are not authorized to approve requests for refunds.

NO REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED IF YOU FAIL TO ATTEND CLASS Refunds for payments made by credit card will be processed to same card used and may take 2-3 business days for processing. Refunds for cash and check payments will be made by check and will take 4 to 6 weeks for processing. 8. CANCELLATIONS If we cancel a class, you will be offered the choice of an alternative class, electronic escrow (account credit), or full refund. 9. CONFIRMATION If you provide an email address at registration, class confirmation will be emailed to you. A class reminder will be sent via email 24-48 hours prior to class, but students are expected to manage their class registrations and schedules.

10. CLASS LOCATIONS We may change room assignments due to class size or requirements. Please refer to the Campus Supervisor, classroom signs (on or near door), or television monitor (NLC Campus only) for final room assignment. 11. WAITING LISTS Waiting lists are available for classes that reach capacity. Should space become available, students will be contacted in order they appear on the list. Instructors are not authorized to approve requests for admittance to class if a waiting list is in place. 12. Our coordinators review all applications based on our program needs and student requests. We plan four to five months in advance for our semesters, and work to select seasonally-appropriate classes.
