In most countries, when a road accident or mishap occurs, bystanders usually try to help or at least call for help. However, in India it's different! In a country with some of the world's most deplorable roads, these victims are often left to fend for themselves.
Although insensitivity and indifference can be said to be two of the reasons for this, the prime cause for this behaviour is the lack of access points and the fear of harassment they may face at the hands of police officers if they volunteer to help any accident victim. This apprehension continues to reside in people’s minds despite the guideline issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for the protection of Good Samaritans, as per the Supreme Court’s directions.
Through this booklet I aim to document research and analysis for the interface design of an app that will be used by victims and/or bystanders to call for assistance for a range of road situations/mishaps that may occur.
