FACE THE JUGEND WHAT HAS HAPPENED SO FAR… Happy Tom, founding member of TURBONEGRO and their (drummer and) bass player, had the idea of a TURBOJUGEND. In the mid-‐nineties, TURBONEGRO granted TURBOJUGEND diplomas to their most fanatic fans. A few years later, rock’n’roll enthusiasts from Hamburg, Germany founded TURBOJUGEND ST. PAULI, the first chapter of the TURBOJUGEND as we know it today. Since this time, St. Pauli has been the epicenter of the TURBOJUGEND. In the last two decades, the TURBOJUGEND has grown into a global rock’n’roll community with over 3500 chapters all over the world. From Tromso to Melbourne and from San Francisco to Tokyo, there is hardly any place where the TURBOJUGEND is not represented.

© Paul Müller Rode At WELTTURBOJUGENDTAGE IX, the artist MIROSLAV MENSCHENKIND continued this documentation and included the TURBOJUGEND in his “SOFA STORIES” project. In his role of SIR POLARIOT, the Minister of Propaganda for TURBOJUGEND ST. PAULI, he shot pictures of the TURBOJUGEND on his sofa. It goes without saying that the TURBOJUGEND loved to pose on SIR POLARIOT’S sofa. Shortly after, SIR POLARIOT had the idea for his “FACE THE JUGEND” project. In the last years, he has refined his idea and is now ready to start his photography world invasion. His mission is straightforward and well defined: he wants to capture the worldwide Turbojugend in photos.

© Paul Müller-‐Rode In 2012, PAUL MÜLLER-‐RODE, a photographer from Hamburg, took pictures at WETTURBOJUGENDTAGE VIII, the annual meeting of the worldwide TURBOJUGEND. He created a colorful documentation of the TURBOJUGEND that has been presented on various occasions.

…AND NOW: In order to accomplish his mission, SIR POLARIOT will travel the world and take pictures of the diverse members of the TURBOJUGEND. He will start his photographic journey in the epicenter of the TURBOJUGEND, Hamburg, and will travel to destinations close and far. Here, he needs your support: SIR POLARIOT can realize his “FACE THE JUGEND” project only with the help of the global TURBOJUGEND. HOW WILL IT WORK? We will organize tours to TURBOJUGEND chapters. On his tours, SIR POLARIOT will visit your TURBOJUGEND and document your chapter on a location that is related to your TURBOJUGEND history. This location can be anything related to your chapter: your home, your favorite bar, a sports arena, a whore house, a church, etc. The pictures will be shown on this website. In addition, SIR POLRIOT will take portraits of you, which you will sign with your warrior name and chapter name. The portraits will be also shown on this website in a special format.

thinking about a model to finance this project, we have to go step by step. You can also help by providing accommodation or a meal on the tour or motivate your friends in participating in “FACE THE JUGEND”. WHAT WILL BE THE RESULT? In addition to the picture documentation on this website, we have various ideas. Which ideas we can realize depend on our funding which we are working on right now. We are thinking about a picture book, a yearbook, a travel diary, or – our most favorite idea – a sticker album which would allow you to collect pictures of the TURBOJUGEND. Who would trade stickers of soccer players, if he could trade pictures of the TURBOJUGEND? CAN I GET A COPY OF THE PICTURES? Of course! All pictures SIR POLARIOT will take during his tour can be ordered afterwards. We will use any profit from selling pictures to fund the tour and are thankful in advance for any support you might provide. FTJ, Hamburg MAY, 08th 2015

HOW CAN I HELP?

Please CONTACT us if you or your chapter is interested in being represented on “FACE THE JUGEND”. SIR POLARIOT and you will then go with the flow. His first tour will be around Germany. Please understand that we cannot start the photography world invasion in Japan. Our budget is limited and while we are

The Nihilistic Army wanna know more about this so Face the Jugend, tell me more. How will it end? As a book or at the web? Actually we will post all the pictures of the visits on www.facethejugend.com. At the end we hopefully will publish a sticker album, so that all Jugendliche can trade themselves. Beside this we are trying to publish a yearbook of the WTJT like the High School book you got when you graduate. Is it just you who travel around the world? At the moment its just me. There is no time limit, so I can do it step by step. I really interested in visit all the chapters and document everything, but I am also open for everything and maybe one day we are a group of photographers all over the world and document all the fun. I really like the idea and right now it seems like so much going on in the Jugend, radio shows, my fanzine, face the Jugend... How do you feel about that? And do you think we all will co-‐work? It´s cool to see that there are so many people who are active and creative in the Jugend. I think this is the spirit of the Turbojugend. Everybody should do something he like for the Turbojugend. If he is only good in drinking beer and talking shit, thats also great. The movement, we are all part of, is something great and we all should act together and have much fun together. What does Turbonegro think of FTJ? Happy Tom said: Hei man, cool idea! (Still waiting of the final answer from Rune. Who are you? What chapter? Age? My name is Miroslav Menschenkind aka Sir Polariot of Turbojugend St. Pauli. I´m a 38 years old photographer and artist from Hamburg. I shoot a lot music stuff and always interested in new projects. Turbonegro or Hellacopters?

I like the Hellacopters, but without Turbonegro all this never would be happened Beer or booze? I´still a straight edge kid, so its lemonade Sweden or Norway? Can I use a joker? I like both country very much. And maybe one day a will live somewhere in this beautiful nature Happy Tom or Rune Rebellion? As photographer I must say Tom, cause Rune position on the stay is mostly in the dark back. Punk or metal? Hardcore St Pauli or Liverpool? I´m finished with football. But still wear my HSV button on my Kutte Your 5 most played songs right now I really don't know. There is to much music I like Where to meet you at WTJT? You will find all details for Face the Jugend at WTJT on the webpage and this will be the place where I will be. Face the Jugend is a photography world invasion created by Miroslav Menschenkind aka Sir Polariot to document the Turbojugend.

MF Ruckus How about playing at WTJT? For us, it's a tremendous honor to be playing WTJT at all, let alone as main support for The Carburetors, let alone as the only U.S. band on the bill. We've wanted to play in Europe for such a long time, so this is really a dream come true. The friends we've made through the Turbojugend truly are "our tribe". We cannot wait to come out there and party. We've heard tales of the WTJT from all of our friends who have been. They usually end with a deep sigh, a knowing look at the utterance of something like "Dude...YOU guys are going to love it..." Sailors or army? Sailors have more fun. They combine our two favorite things: Cruise ships and Artillery. Plus, the uniform really showcases the ass and package. Booze or beer? There's something about an ice cold beer on a hot day that booze just can't match. Plus, when you spray Tequila all over your friends at a party, it seems kind of wasteful. Kind of like spilling a little weed vs spilling a little cocaine. The first is no big deal, the second one makes you feel like you literally just ground cash into the carpet. Whats next for your band? After this trip, we're going to start working on a new record and planning our next European tour. We haven't even been yet and we already want to go again! What is TRBNGR?

They are a symbol of complete and total Rock n Roll fanaticism. Turbonegro fans don't just love the band, they love BANDS in general. Turbonegro represents shows, fun, partying and friendship as an ideology and way of life. They are the fire around which a denim clad, lord-‐of-‐the-‐flies-‐esque tribe of heathens laugh, dance and make offerings to the rock gods.

Final Assault

How about playing at WTJT? It's really awesome to play at WTJT in front of Turbojugends Worldwide and we are ready to destroy St. Pauli! Sailors or army? In Finland we have liability to military service and I did my time in pioneer arms, but of course I love sailors! :D Booze or beer? Both + redwine. Whats next for your band? We have a new drummer and we do only three live shows this year. We want to concentrate in writing new crossover anthems and hopefully next Final Assault release will be out early 2016. It will be 7" EP, four -‐ six songs, MOSH IT UP!

and eventually world domination! What is TRBNGR? A well known norwegian export article together with brown cheese, aquavit and salmon. Hailing from Gothenburg Sweden comes

What is TRBNGR? Turbonegro is still vital band and they have released many classic punk rock albums, very important band for me. They also have the best fans that band could get, Turbojugends!

Chuck Norris Experiment.

The Carburetors

How about playing at WTJT? It will be fun! Turbojugend is a wild & crazy bunch and St.Pauli, Hamburg is the epicenter of rock'n'roll decadence. We don't expect to catch up on any reading while we are there. Sailors or army? I guess we have to say sailors. Kai Kidd got a boat, so he is captain on his own ship and is always in need of some extra sailors. The last one ended up as shark meal!

Booze or beer? Yes, please! A full round or two on the whole band will be appreciated! Whats next for your band? We got a new record label and the new record will be out after the summer. Then touring, playing some major festivals

They are celebrating 10 years as a band with the release ˆtheir sixth album "Right Between The Eyes" Expect a kick-‐ass show as they bring there speciel blend of hard rock and punk rock to the stage. How about playing at WTJT ? We do not know yet, but I think and hope that it feels sick damn good. As a long protracted orgasm mixed with the feeling you get after five quick shots of Jack Daniels and a millionaire in the Euro Lotto . Sailors or army ? It is hard . Sailors are usually open to new adventures and they are worldly in a completely different way than the army boys , while as the army boys are tough , stylish and have more weapons than sailors . However ,if we must choose it will be sailors . Booze or beer? Yes please ! Whats next for your band? We are writing the next album right now and expects to record it in September , and we will play in Wales , Hamburg, Berlin , Kiel and Dusseldorf, and so we go back to California again soon.

What the hell is TRBNGR? Turbonegro is the world's best rock bands , that only gets better with each album. It is the band we listened to the most on the tour bus , no doubt.

Crude Caress

The three guys from (Winterthur, Switzerland) play genuine punk. They don't try to invent any fancy rubbish, they just lˆve to play. They are proud of their freedom to do whatever they want, and they do it with loads of passion.

How about playing at WTJT? In the year of 2005 at WTJT 2, a bunch of idiots from Winterthur (the legendary Hukedicht) played on Friday evening at Grunspan, now ten years after we inherit the legacy! It's my tenth attendance at the WTJT, and I'm so fuckin' proud and honored to finally hit the stage in Hamburg! Actually, we all are! It's the biggest thing for our band sˆ far. Sailors or army? To say it in TomPacs words: Armies come and go, but my Sailors stay eternal! Booze or beer? That's the same question as "tits or ass", the answer is always the same: BOTH!

Whats next for your band? We plan to release our "Horror Trilogy" as a 7" vinyl single. TRBNGR? Dunnˆ exactly, think that has something to do with erectile dysfunction. Therefore I scream into the night: Turbonegro must be destroyed!

Lucifer Star

Hamburg based

Machine will unleash their violent,

heavy Rock'n'Roll on us. With their tales about love, pain, death and religious atrocities. You will sureley be taken for the ride of your life. How about playing at WTJT? Can't wait to kick some Jugend ass! Are you ready to wash your hands in the cunt of destruction?? Sailors or army? We're from Hamburg, man! Sailors, pimps and whores! Booze or beer? Anything we can get our little hands on. Whats next for your band? We're writing a face melting bastard of a new record, which will be a fucking milestone in the ass-‐kicking genre! Be warned: it ain't for fucking pussies! What is Turbonegro? The reason I formed Lucifer Star Machine in 2002 as I was obsessed with "Apocalypse Dudes", a perfect record that mixes everything cool in Rock and Punk history.

Poison Idea Confuse & Conquer So I guess no Jugend have missed that these death-‐punk legends from Portland, Oregon are back with a new album. The legendary singer, and only original member, Jarry. A have regrouped the troops and have manage to release the first Poison Idea album in over nine years! And I am glad to let you know it is pretty good. The album have some really good tracks in that classic Poison Idea vain and we get some Feel The Darkness pianos here and there. Ofcours there are some lowpoints when they try to experiment with their sound. But when the band sticks to playing raw and nihilistic hardcore it is great! I heard that the band have broken up again. I hope they get their shit together! Blonde Beauty G.L.O.S.S Demo Wow! Where did this come from? Here we have a great debut. Great new hardcore band from Olympia, Washington. A town that is more famous for its pretentious art and pop scene than for raw hardcore. This is kind of old as it came out in January but I have been missing out. I would go so far to say that this is one of the best demos this year. G.L.O.S.S (Girls Living Outside Societys Shit) is fronted by some trans-‐girl and trust me these ladies are pissed! The sound is raw and trashy hardcore. The tape is sold out but do yourself a favour and download this from the internet. "This is for the outcasts/Rejects/Girls and the Queers/For the downtrodden women who have shed their last tears." Amazing! Blonde Beauty Svettas eller Dö Demo Since the 1990’s the Umeå hardcorescene have been known for producing a number of great punkbands and in recent years alot of queers and transpeople have started to take a big part in the scene. Svettas eller Dö is one of the new great queercore bands. I have seen the band live and they put on a great show but this demo shows that the songs also are

really good. If you are into fun and fast hardcore punk you will not be disappointed. The lyrics are pretty funny but with a strong political stance. The artwork is also great. I am looking forward to hearing more from this band. Blonde Beauty All My Exes From the hen house If you like me clench your but tight and starts to squeal like i pig inside your own head, every time you hear a banjo playing. You are going to love All my exes from Denmark. The album is a mix of catchy tunes and some slower songs. Their mix of country, blues and americana is the perfect soundtrack for some naked hillbilly partying up in the mountains or out on the streets. M. Whitetrash Marechal Coup de grisou Ask the guys and they say they play Basthard Rock, and that sums up the sound perfectley. Its hard, filthy and catchy as fuck. The guitar sound awesome and the vocals are violent and agressive. I just wanna crank up the stereo and bathe in beer when i hear them. M. Whitetrash Also out , a fantastic split 7” with two of the coolest & hottest bands, The Hip Priests & Bitch Queens. Hip Priest side: Woe Is Me (Bitch Queens) Sha Na Na Nihilist Bitch Queens side: Sonic Reproducer (The Hip Priests) So Fucking Bored Out on Speedo Wax Records Horny Sailor

Christmas Lose Your Illusion Max´s back with his Christmas. SK8/UK82 and US HC mixed perfecly into this album. Sometimes I even hear some typical Swedish punk infuences. If your into oldschool HC buy this one! Horny Sailor Fuck Frankie Hate Me Distillers? Hell no! This is Fuck Frankie from Sweden. Pure kick ass sing along get druck fuck n fight barroom PUNK. Snotty n loud. Horny Sailor

1st Mate I am the founder and President of TJ Charlottenberg.I was raised on a mix of Heavy metal and Mr Cash, and when i grew older i thrown a mix of punk extreme metal and synth into the mix First time i saw Turbonegro was at Roskilde Festival in 2003 and I loved it. But it was not until 2007 I pulled the finger out of my ass and started my chapter. We started small but now we are one of the biggest chapters in the county. Im a big bacon and chili addict so thats why I made my now famous bacon vodka/ chili vodka. If you have meet me you have most likely tried one of them. Fun fact. Long Knife from Portland is proof that death punk lives Do Yankees still know their death punk? Well Portland’s Long Knife proves that there still is some good music out there. In a time when a lot of Jugends seems to settle with listening to any bad rock and roll band and just crappy music in general, a band that busts out some seriously great death punk jams is exactly what this world need. These four Portland punks has in the recent years been able to conquer the hardcore scene without any problems and they recently finished a six week long European tour where they also drove thru Scandinavia. Their drummer Joe was kind enough to answer some questions that the Jugend needs to know about. — The European tour was great! Six weeks of insanity halfway around the world, we had a blast. It was killer getting to see and play in so many new places and meet so many cool new people, I definitely have to say that the punk scene in Europe is doing pretty killer right now, says Joe. Did you play with any good bands ?

— Fuck yeah we did, Damaged Head, Midnight Crisis, Lapinpolthajat, Dirty Fences, DOOM, Dry Heaves, Hårda Tider, Youth Avoiders, Ruidosa Inmundicia just to name a few. What do you remember about the gig you did in Luleå? — The frozen lake at the bottom of the hill. But seriously, that was a really fun show. It was the second show with our friends Trots and Bad Nerve, both great bands by the way, from Umeå so that was really fun. It was really cool to be somewhere like Luleå so far north, I mean basically we were almost in the Arctic Circle which is crazy to us. I remember the show being really fun and having a fun party after singing stupid songs and hanging out with new friends. Do you like and know about old Swedish and Scandinavian hardcore? — We all love Scandinavian hardcore, Anti-‐ Cimex, Puke, Riistetyt, Totalitär, Terveet Kädet, Appendix and Kaaos to name a few. Ebba Grön is one of my favorite bands, I was stoked to pick up a bunch of their records in Stockholm because you can’t find them anywhere in the US. Personally I got really into the 90s and early 2000s Umeå scene with DS-‐ 13, Regulations, Final Exit and all that shit, says Joe. A while back ago the band released their second LP Meditations On Self Destruction. A killer record with twelve ripping tracks about hate, substance abuse and alienation. But what is the biggest difference between their first LP Wilderness and Meditations On Self Destruction? — Probably the fact that the Wilderness LP wasn’t really recorded with the intention of releasing it on vinyl. We recorded that in May of 2012 when I was supposed to be moving to Sweden that fall basically just so that we would have something recorded before I left, as it was possibly going to be the end of the band. We hadn’t played any shows at the time that we recorded it and mostly just wanted it as a demo to be able to give bands we played with over the summer. After a few shows

Yannick from Feral Ward approached us and offered to put out a record, so we showed him the recording that we already had and he liked it so it ended up becoming the first LP. With “Meditations…” we spent a lot of time working on the songs before we went in to record, and then spent a good amount of time mixing it as well, so I guess you could say that it was a bit more thought out. I think they both came out great though, and it was really fun exploring new territory and progressing as a band together on the 2nd LP, says Joe. Portland has since the early days of punk been a town that you can count on delivering good music. Going back to the fucking classics such as the mighty Poison Idea and The Wipers the town have produced a number of good punk and hardcore groups. Long Knife, being a death punk style hardcore band from Portland, is always compared to the legends in Poison Idea. Even thou their music really stand on its own feet. — I mean there are worse bands to be compared to. I think that we’ve definitely established ourselves as our own band at this point, and that these days’ people are more just using it as an easy way to describe complicated music. We’re all into tons of different types of music and we draw influences for our music from all over the place. We all definitely love Poison Idea and I think that shows but it’s definitely not the only influence that’s there, says Joe. What are your thoughts on the new Poison Idea album? — Honestly I still haven’t had a chance to listen to it, so I don’t have an opinion on it. How is the local punk scene doing these days? — The scene here is doing pretty good, there’s a bunch of cool new bands that are great Bi-‐ Marks, Mongoloid, Wild Mohicans, Frenzy and Pressing On. And a lot of the old mainstay bands like Warcry, Lebenden Toten, Tragedy and Poison Idea are still killer live and play from time to time. The only big problem we have in Portland these days is a lack of all ages

venues. Houses keep getting shut down and DIY spots keep going under so it sucks that kids don’t really have anywhere to go check out new bands. We have one punk bar that can do All Ages shows but it’s tough to get the word out to kids, hopefully though since it’s still a newer place, less than a year old, that’ll change with time, says Joe. What do you think is the biggest difference between the hardcore scene 2015 and when you first got into it? — Definitely the lack of kids these days. When I first started going to shows and playing in bands I was around 13 or 14, and there were a few kids my age and a ton of kids a little bit older than me like 16 or 17 that were going to shows and playing in bands. It was cool because I had actual peers my age that I could talk to and hang out with as well as meeting the older people and learning about new bands and stuff, I think that really helped me develop my love for punk and my desire to play in bands. These days there’s just not very many high school kids that come to shows and when they do they either come with a couple friends or just by themselves and that can be hard when you don’t know anyone and are an awkward kid. Theres tons of theories as to why there aren’t that many kids in hardcore these days, like everything’s too accessible on the internet or there’s not enough all ages venues or whatever, but it’s definitely the main difference between when I first got in it and now I think. When I was nineteen years old I went on my first European tour as a driver for the legendary Swedish punkband Nitad (roughly translated to Wasted). Not really a death punk band but probably at the time the most notorious band in the Swedish hardcore scene for their liberal view on drug use. I ended up being their driver for their two last tours and I am glad to find out that Joe also has a connection to this chaotic and amazing band. — Haha yes, I love those guys! Joe says when I bring up these alcoholics. — I drove them on their US tour in 2009 and we had a great time. Even if some of us got

arrested at some point. It’s a long story but we were somewhere that we weren’t supposed to be and it was almost a really big deal, but in the end everything went away. I guess one of the roadies that was traveling with them came back to the US a couple years later and had to endure a couple of hours of questioning but in the end he got in so all is good I suppose. Who knows if they’ll let the singer Modde in though, says Joe.

over the years and it’s a pretty fun rabbit hole to fall down if you’re bored. Any last words for all the sexy sailors out there? — Cheers and thanks for the interview, hopefully we make it back to Scandinavia sometime soon, says Joe.

In Sweden we have a big nazi problem and the fascist party has gotten seats in the parliament. Are there a lot of nazi scumbags in Portland? — Luckily no, at least not that you really see around. There are always rumors of a white power movement in the Pacific Northwest but it doesn’t really show itself that much and it’s definitely not something that’s present in the local government the way that it is in Sweden. There was a bigger problem with it back in the 90s from what I hear, as there similarly were tons of other places across the US, but punks and anti-‐fascist skinheads beat them out of town. I actually grew up in Dallas Texas where there was a really big nazi skinhead problem from the 90s through the early 2000s but luckily for me when I started coming to shows in 2002 or so the anti-‐fascist skinheads had done a good job of clearing out the rubbish in the Dallas scene. I have good friends that are SHARP skins or wild older punks that beat the fuck out of hammer skins back then and they definitely have told me crazy stories of the lawlessness of DIY punk shows back then. What are your favorite conspiracy theories? — I’d say one of my favorites is the Lemurian civilization theories surrounding Mt. Shasta in Northern California. It’s a mountain that has apparently been a spiritual center for different religious sects and native tribes over the past few centuries, and one of the predominant theories is that there’s a massive city accessible through a network of tunnels inside the mountain where the Lemurian civilization relocated after their island home was destroyed due to volcanic activity. There’s a bunch of crazy sightings that have happened
