After the Sunday premiere at 2 p.m. ET, the “Summertime” video will air every hour during Jump Start, VH1’s morning video block, for the entire week of June 9. In addition, fans can log onto Music.VH1.com to view a 45-second sneak peek of the video. “NKOTB,” as they were known back in the day, broke up in 1994 after selling more than 70 million albums worldwide. But the group has recently reunited in the recording studio to create new music, working in partnership with a new record label, Interscope Records. REUNITED NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK IGNITE PASSIONS On the set of NBC's "Today" show, fans screeched the names of their favorites: "Joey!" "Jordan!" "Donnie!" The New Kids on the Block are trying their hand at a comeback. So far, all signs say go. Sixty hours before the "Today" show concert even started, and despite the rain, fans started lining up outside the studios at Rockefeller Plaza, hoping to catch a glimpse of the former teen idols. By the time the boy-band-turned-man-band took to a wet and slippery stage, the crowd had swelled to several thousand; mostly casually dressed women in their 20s and 30s who wept, sang along lustily and held doll-size versions of the band members aloft. "The 'Today' show turned out to be a 90-minute infomercial for the band," says Jared Paul of AGP, the New Kids' manager. In the wake of the May 16 taping, the band's single "Summertime" debuted at No. 57 on the Billboard Hot 100 before sliding to No. 83 the following week. Obviously, a connection is still being made with fans of group -- five Boston boys who exploded in the late '80s and ruled the charts into the early '90s. "Hangin' Tough" was certified platinum eight times over, and "Step by Step" went triple platinum. The band also had three No. 1 singles, and its members' faces were slapped on everything from lunchboxes to sleeping bags. By 1994, however, the New Kids' star had waned, and after their "Face the Music" album sold poorly, shifting only 138,000 copies, the boys called it quits. In the intervening 14 years, the five members dabbled in solo albums, acting and real estate, and kept in touch as friends. The decision to make 2008 their comeback year was based mostly on timing, according to Jordan Knight. "We were finally in a place where we could create the space in our lives to make music and go back on the road," he says. According to Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg was the driving force behind the initial reunion plans. "Donnie got us all together to work on a song called 'Click Click Click,' and something, well, clicked," he says. "We all started to get really excited." Well, the boys must realllllly love Canada cause they'll be performing for only the second time since their April reunion (the first was in May on the Today show, but who's awake early enough to catch that show live?? No one, that's who. 9pm ET fit in much more nicely with my schedule, thanks. Oooh, and did everyone see the brand new video for their first single, Summertime? It surfaced on YouTube over the weekend. Very reminiscent of the video for As Long As You Love Me from boy band alumnae Backstreet Boys. What do you think the guys will perform come MMVA night? LADY GAGA BRINGS HER ARTISTIC VISION OF POP MUSIC TO NEW ALBUM & A NEW KIDS SONG The 'Just Dance' singer adds interactive multimedia and fashion to her '70s-inspired dance music. By Chris Harris, with reporting by Kim Stolz She may not have been alive during the 1970s, but Lady GaGa's forthcoming debut album, The Fame, is an ode of sorts to the Me Decade, as is the video for the LP's first single, "Just Dance." The New York-born theatrical dance-pop upstart said she didn't set out to emulate the sounds of the '70s. She just started writing music, incorporating her lifelong love of theater, fashion and pop into the material. The end result is a record that sounds like it could have come from a different period altogether. "It's not really rocket science," joked Lady GaGa, who will release her debut LP this summer through Akon's Konvict Muzik, during a recent chat with MTV News. "The music is intended to inspire people to feel a certain way about themselves, so they'll be able to encompass, in their own lives, a sense of inner fame that they can project to the world, and the carefree nature of the album is a reflection of that aura. I like to funnel interesting ideas to the rest of the world through a pop lens." Lady GaGa, who did a brief stint as a go-go dancer following a premature withdrawal from New York University, said she'd like to revive pop music, returning the one thing that's been missing from the equation since the heyday of 'NSYNC and Britney Spears. "What has been lost in pop music these days is the combination of the visual and the imagery of the artist, along with the music — and both are just as important," she said. "So, even though the carefree nature of the album is something that people are latching onto right away about my stuff, I hope they will take notice of the interactive, multimedia nature of what I'm trying to do. The things I like to do and the theatrics, I like to incorporate them into the choreography. With my music, it's a party, it's a lifestyle, and it's about making the lifestyle the forefront of the music." Lady GaGa's rise to prominence didn't happen overnight, of course. After dropping out of college, she said she decided to make a new life for herself. She found she was "super-uninspired, and I just wanted to do it alone, so it was me and my piano and three jobs, and I played every club, bombed in every club, and I worked my way up and put this performance-art show together, and here we are." Since signing with Interscope and teaming with Akon, Lady GaGa has written tracks for the likes of Tami Chynn and the Pussycat Dolls. And while she's focused, for the moment, on her own career, she was recently asked to collaborate with one of her favorite artists, and it was an opportunity she couldn't pass up. "I'm a huge New Kids fan," Lady GaGa gushed as she talked about appearing on the track "Big Boy/Big Girl" from the New Kids on the Block's forthcoming comeback LP, which is being produced her friend Red1. "He played them some of my records, and they said, 'Who is this chick?' " she explained. "So, I met up with the guys, and we actually ended up writing another song together. I was at Staples Center's "Home Court Advantage"—where Lakers fans go to watch road playoff games on the Jumbotron—for Game 2 where I spotted not one, but three ugly altercations, with Celtics fans in full C's regalia as victims. There was less ugliness at Game 3 two days later, but still plenty of greeninspired finger wagging and obscenities that'd make even a Bostonian blush. Which begs the question: In an environment such as this, why would a celebrity like Donnie Wahlberg, a man looking to work in an industry overrun by purple-and-gold Suits—and a man who owns a home here in Laker Nation, no less—show up wearing a Paul Pierce jersey to a Lakers Party? We'll let the NKOTBer-turned-actor and perhaps the C's most vocal supporter, explain why the C's will be fine, LA is soft, and the refs aren't kind … to the Celitcs. ESPNthemag.com: You've got guts wearing that jersey to a Lakers home game. Do you feel safe? Donnie Wahlberg: (Laughs) Safe? Who's going to hurt me in LA? I keep saying that the Lakers need someone to step up and do what McHale did to Rambis. They need someone to clothesline someone else. But if they do it, then what happens? Who's going to step up and fight for the Lakers? That's their problem. They don't have any tough guys, do they? Farmar's got some toughness. He's a superstar in the making. But no, no tough guys. The Cetlics got a few tough guys. Is there anyone on the Lakers you wouldn't want to meet in an alley? I think they'd all try to pick me up if I met them in an alley. (Laughs) How about Turiaf? 'NEW KIDS' FANS STILL SCREAMING, 15 YEARS LATER Sheri Block, CTV.ca Entertainment New Kids on the Block's fans may have matured into adults, but it didn't stop many of them from screaming out the name of their favorite boy band member backstage at the 2008 MuchMusic Video Awards (MMVAs). Performing at their first major live event in more than 15 years, the Boston-based group who achieved massive success in the late 80s and early 90s for their pop songs and choreographed dance moves, had the ladies screeching "Donnie!" or "Joey!" at the top of their lungs once more. "(It has) evolved into a respectful healthy mature adult sort of screaming," said Donnie Wahlberg with a laugh, noting that many of their fans have since grown up to have families and careers. "It's kind of a chance for them to just let their hair down and kind of be kids again, be free again. While we have a lot of work to do and a lot of responsibility putting this together, I think it's a chance for us to do that as well. I don't think we're having mid-life crises or anything but you know, we're having fun and we're getting to do something we haven't done in a long time and I think it's the same for the fans," he said. It doesn't hurt that the fans are now legal drinking age, said Joey McIntyre. "Back in the day they scream because they didn't know what else to do. (They had) feelings they couldn't really act upon so they screamed. Now they scream because they can drink and they get a little tipsy." It has been a year of comebacks for many boy/girl groups from the 90s and Melanie C of the Spice Girls, who reunited for a world tour earlier this year, said when a group gets back together you have to give the fans something of quality or it's not worth doing. "I don't think you should go out there just to make money, I think you should go out there for the fans. And people can criticize you for coming back but you know what? ... The people want to see it," said Mel C, who presented an award at the MMVAs.
nkotbthing.com "Sporty Spice" is now concentrating on her solo career -- she just released her fourth album -- and said there will be no more Spice Girls reunions in the future. "We toured in January, February and that really was our goodbye. We have no plans to do anything else in the future but then we never ever thought we would (reunite again)." The success that groups like New Kids on the Block and the Spice Girls have enjoyed is a level reality TV girl group Girlicious can only hope to attain one day. The four-member group that was formed from 'The Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious' told reporters backstage they look up to these groups and want to stay together forever so they don't have to reunite. But when it comes to sustaining their musical longevity, manager Robin Antin and judge on the reality series, was quick to jump in. "We have an incredible label, Interscope, Geffen, A&M, that have supported us through the whole process. My partner, Jimmy Iovine, and Rob Fair, are so supportive ... I know as far as longevity, between all of us, we have an incredible backbone supporting this. "It's real," continued Antin. "It's not just some reality show thing where they go away tomorrow. It's something I've put my heart and soul into and I hope 15 years later, I can be sitting here doing the same thing." "Even though we came from a reality TV show we worked just as hard if not harder than every other artist out there," added group member Natalie Mejia.

MMVAS ROCK THROUGH THE STORM The MuchMusic Video Awards rocked Toronto Sunday night. Thousands of screaming fans braved the rain to see their favourite stars grace the red carpet, including presenters Perez Hilton, Chace Crawford, Whitney Port and Jason Spezza. But the show got even hotter when Rihanna "Took a Bow" on the stage, while the audience went nuts for the New Kids on the Block, performing their first major show in Canada in 15 years. ONE NIGHT IN TORONTO We had SUCH a great time in Canada on Sunday! There were so many awesome moments, but the coolest had to be the opportunity to have our own party. The lovely and talented Melanie C. (above) came out to kick it with us and the boys from Simple Plan killed it with their superenergetic performance. It was the perfect way to bring to an end an almost perfect evening - minus the rain. There's so many people we'd like to thank, who helped make our big soiree possible. Much appreciation to CK One and everyone at Coty, Simple Plan, Evian, MAC Cosmetics, Rich Prosseco, DJ Jesse Marco, Revival, Lollicakes, STRUT Entertainment, and Bruce & Brian and everyone else at BMF Media. No one would tell us exactly what happened but there appeared to be some "drama" that went down between them backstage. By all accounts, The Office star, Wilson, was being quite difficult. Sources tell us he was supposed to introduce the Jabbawockeez, winners of MTV's America's Best Dance Crew. However, he refused to do that because he didn't know who they were and thought it was "beneath him." Wait, who is Rainn Wilson again???? (…)

Rihanna performed in another of her crazy black costumes and she had two shiny trophies to add to her ensemble by the end of the night. NKOTB AND ME Sorry it’s taken so long. Haven’t had a couple of hours straight uninterrupted to sit down and pound it out. Found out about the interview last Wednesday but didn’t want to jinx. Kept expecting something to go wrong – they’d cancel last minute, I’d break my other arm, my producer would change her mind and decide on a different story focus. Saturday seemed so far away. Interview times with celebrities are fluid. This means that if you’re slotted into 9am, there’s a good chance you’ll be there until 6pm. Or longer. Which is why “glamour” couldn’t be a more inappropriate attribute to describe the process. The process is hurry up and wait. Occasionally though, it is totally worth it the wait. The New Kids are totally worth it. Jen B was my producer – only the most ardent New Kids superfan on the planet. Like she went to Jordan and Jon’s house and saved a handful of grass from their lawn. Yes. She did. And a piece of pizza. Yes. She did. This is what you do when you’re 10 years old. When I was 10 years old I pined for Michael Jackson and pretend kissed him on my pillow. Between NKOTB and Michael Jackson, I’m thinking in the long run, Jen B came out way ahead. She also had her hair blown out for the occasion. It looked amazing. Needless to say, we were a ball of nerves. At noon we were setting up a lounge on the 4th floor. One long couch with 2 stools behind it for the boys, one matching leather chair across for me. Lighting a set takes forever. Seriously… forever. NKOTB was scheduled to arrive in our suite at 1:45pm, more than enough time to review the questions, go over the research, whip ourselves into a nervous frenzy, and belt out every New Kids song to camera with Marie B.
nkotbthing.com Marie is our production manager who conveniently decided to show up that morning, design the room, and stay for five hours because she had nothing better to do on a Saturday. Marie and I were the losers who were reliving the dance moves to Step By Step and screeching at the top of our lungs when their publicist decided to pop in for a visit to make sure the room was up to standard. Later on, during our very pitchy rendition of Please Don’t Go Girl, it was their manager (a piece of quivering ass) who came down the hall for a stroll and heard us mutilating his clients’ music. This is when Dylan pleaded with me to stop embarrassing myself. Apparently I was offending his sense of cool. Whatever. We kept singing. At one point, Marie had to dash into the artist green room area to steal a stool. She opened a curtain and there he was – Danny grinning back at her with a very suggestive… Hello. She hopped up with an “oh hi!” and ran away and spent the next hour trying to decide if he was about to ask her out for dinner. Marie and Danny have quite a story. Before long it was time. I was wringing my hands, Jen B had changed her shoes, Marie had taken off her flats and put on a pair of black sexy pumps, and Dylan was annoyed. We heard them walking down the hall, we heard their Boston accents, we did not fling our tits at them when they walked in the room. Jen B actually managed to hold it together and delivered her “producer” speech without sounding at all like someone who’s been stalking them for almost 20 years. I was impressed. Donnie came in first. I told him I was a big fan… he pulled me in for a hug. Then it was Jordan (a handshake) and Joey (also a handshake and he smells so good) and Jonathan (hidden behind sunglasses the entire time) who greeted me warmly before throwing himself onto the couch. Danny straggled in last wearing the best outfit: a blue t-shirt bedazzled here and there with sequins and (we think) rhinestones. My mother dressed Danny Wood!!! Amazing. Right off the get, the chemistry was electric. Jen B had spent months trying to confirm this interview. Months. And the best part is that it’s early. It’s at the very, very beginning of their comeback. So none of them are tired yet. In fact they’ve just been thrown right back into a tornado after a long, long hiatus. We were with them before the fatigue, before they start calling in their answers, before the cynicism kicks in… it was the best time to talk. And a half hour interview is a long, long time. Maybe it was because we were completely blocked off from anyone else in a secluded part of the building, maybe it was the soft lighting that the guys had spent too long tinkering with, maybe it was Marie’s cosy set design…but from the beginning it felt less like an interview than me sitting in my living room talking to five dudes. They were ready to talk. They were ready to reveal. So much so that my full interview with New Kids on the Block will be turned into a half hour special airing THIS FRIDAY on Star and again on CTV on Monday morning. In several sombre moments, the boys were willing to address the internal turmoil that eventually led to their split, they had some fighting words for those who think they shouldn’t be reuniting, they teased each other incessantly about romance on the road, and yes… there was flirting. Of course there was flirting. Yeah. I flirted. They started and I flirted back and if you think I would pass up that kind of opportunity, you’re straight up Tom Cruise. Crazy. Conversation was laden with innuendo. They’re boys, after all. And as they will be the first to tell you, they are thrilled that seemingly overnight but not really, their fans aren’t 12 anymore. No more jailbait. Total legal love on the tour bus. At one point Joe cheekily asked if I would go on tour with them.
nkotbthing.com Hell. Yes. He was wearing jeans and a white t shirt underneath a blue blazer with a polka dot hankerchief tucked into the breast pocket. The bluest blues, the nicest nose, and not a child anymore. Sasha says that there may have been some eyef&cking on his part at the MMVAs when he came into our lounge on Sunday, which is ironic because Sasha was the one who got eyef&cked by Colin Farrell while I was standing next to her last year at TIFF. Oh yeah Joey’s a charmer. But he’s also a father and a husband and speaks lovingly and often about his baby and wife. Indeed. Joey McIntyre grew up so hot. He’s like my favourite now. Actually…they’re all pretty sexy but curiously enough, not Jordan. Jordan who was the object of my 16 year old sex vow. Jordan was kinda bland. We were expecting Jordan to be the ringleader, very vocal, or at least as charismatic as some of the others. In reality, both Knight brothers sort of fade away, leaving Joey, Donnie, and Danny out front. Donnie speaks the most. Donnie answers every question first. And elaborates. And he’s probably a little more forthcoming than he should be. So much so that he had to write a note to himself on his blackberry about giving too much information. Of all of them, Donnie’s the guy who could be your friend. He’s probably the most fun. And accessible too. During sound check on Saturday afternoon, he was murmuring into the microphone that he needed a “groin stretch” over and over again. And the dancers love him. At rehearsal on Sunday, he rushed up to one of them and gave her a big platonic hug. It was cute – like they could party together without it being groupie weird. Most surprising though was Danny. I was never a “Danny”. Aesthetically… well… he’s not David Beckham. Best story I’ve ever heard about Danny though is from this woman I know reminiscing about the New Kids days. She was a Danny. But she was a Danny because Danny wasn’t as cute as the others. As such, she reasoned that she would have the best chance. Have you ever heard such a pragmatic approach to choosing a FANTASY lover??? Amazing. But remember, Danny was the one who dated Halle Berry. I asked him straight up, he told me straight up. Then the other guys jumped in and talked about how that’s the one accomplishment that set him apart. That they will always be lesser to Danny no matter who was singing lead vocals. Having met him now, I can totally see it. We all could totally see it. By the end of it Marie wanted Danny. There is something about Danny. Like an ugly sexy. He’s interesting, he’s really quick, and above all, Danny is cool. Even wearing a bedazzled tee. And finally… about Jon. It’s no secret he’s painfully shy. We talked about that: he still has issues with attention, but he says he’s managing the best he can. In person Jon is much better looking. And that long face from before has filled out nicely now. Maybe a little too orange but the best looking, the most handsome one of the lot.

Apparently Joe keeps bringing it up, like he can’t let it go. And Jordan was like – dude, you need to stop telling this story. They vowed to never speak of it again. Tiffany. I think we’re alone now. At the end we played a lighting round. Speed questions where each had to choose this or that. Like boxers or briefs… One of them was wearing nothing. Hanging free. Can you guess who? It was a dream interview. We floated around for hours afterwards and decided to get drunk that night to commemorate the day, not so much because we interviewed the New Kids, not so much because we turned 30 minutes into 45, not because we actually did what we normally NEVER do and asked for a photo, but because something about the afternoon, all the prepping, the singing, the laughing, the giggling…it was like being 16 again. But only the good parts. Only the happy parts. Happy in the way only 16 year olds can feel. Like when a 16 year old is happy, no one else in the world could possibly be as happy. As if it was a 16 year old who invented happy in the first place… that’s how it was with Marie and Jen and me. Like whatever happens, we’ll always have NKOTB. Forever. Photos are attached. The one where Marie has her head turned… it was because half a second before Dylan clicked, Danny leaned into her and said: Wow. You’re really attractive. You can imagine what she was like the rest of the weekend. PS. In case you’re wondering how the boys rank on the Boy Meter…even Dylan had to concede by the end that he would totally hang out with them. But this may be because Donnie shouted out Scarborough. PPS. Almost forgot about the music. I still love the music. I will always love the music. It didn’t sound so great on tv but it sounded great to us in the crowd. Last night, finally, the 22-year drought ended, and the Boston sports team with the winningest tradition returned to the top. Reveling in the C's Game 6 spanking of the Lakers were a bunch of bigwigs, and we're not talking about botoxed B-movie actors like Tom Arnold. (Maybe next year, Tom.) Wyc celebrated with his parents Irv and Sukey Grousbeck. High-fiving fans also included more than a few Patriots: team president Jonathan Kraft, coach Bill Belichick (with girlfriend Linda Holliday), and players Vince Wilfork, Wes Welker, Matt Cassel, Larry Izzo, Adalius Thomas, and Ben Watson. The BoSox brain trust was also in the house, with John Henry and Tom Werner sitting courtside, and Theo Epstein looking on from a suite. Bruins owner and C's landlord Jeremy Jacobs witnessed the series winner, as did B's Zdeno Chara and Shawn Thornton. Aerosmith's Steven Tyler was on hand with girlfriend Erin Brady and fellow bandmate Joey Kramer. Also in the crowd were New Kids Donnie Wahlberg and Joey McIntyre, Dropkick Murphy Ken Casey, and super producer James "Jimmy Jam" Harris. Jack Nicholson was rumored to be making the trip east. MATT WELLS VS DONNIE WALHBERG So 6am Monday morning (the day after the MMVA I went away for 2 days and didn't check email. I came back to about 50 emails asking the same question: "Dude, what's up with you and Donnie Wahlberg?" I guess a lot of people watched my interview with New Kids on the Block (that’s on MuchAXs) and a lot of people also heard rumblings of my New Kids encounter. So here it is: What you do see on AXS is Donnie egging me on a little and trying to make things a little cooler. What you DON'T see is why he was doing that. Let me preface this story by saying I have done close to 1000 interviews since my first on Going Coastal and have NEVER had a problem with anyone, until there was Donnie Wahlberg. I asked them if after selling 70 million albums (the majority in a time when the industry was SO different), did they walk away from it safely and with a pocketful full of loot? In my head I was thinking about bands like TLC who sold MILLIONS and went bankrupt...even U2 came back from the Zooropa tour and lost money. Perhaps I should have prefaced the question with that thought because... Donnie got pissed and asked, "Would you ask the Rolling Stones that question?" and continued to tell me that it's just because they were young. I was assuming that meant they were not smart with the business - which wasn't the case - but he was like a bulldog and I didn't back down which didn't make things any better. I told him I thought it was a legit question, refused to back down and, well, my face in the remaining moments of the interview tells the rest. I finished the interview because they deserved to have a good one (as any artist who comes through here), and you deserve to see it. But, my friends, I wanted to walk SO FU#$ING BAD. I don't want to be a jerk about it, but I will be. At the end of the day, this wasn't a career making interview for me, nor a highlight, but the following was my thought process before AND after the interview: they will have a successful reunion tour and make a pocketful of loot - just don't ask Donnie about it if you see him. NEW KIDS GET SUPPORT FROM NATASHA BEDINGFIELD New kids On The Block have added Natasha Bedingfield to their North American reunion tour, and have added a couple new dates to their itinerary. The 10-week outing, which will visit US and Canadian cities from coast to coast, is set to kick off Sept. 18 with the first of three concerts in Toronto. Since last check, a stop was added in Providence, RI, and a second Los Angeles gig was tacked on. So far, shows have been sold out in Toronto, the Denver area, Atlantic City and Uncasville, CT, according to the New Kids' website. An updated itinerary is listed below. On the road trip, New Kids on the Block plan to put a new twist on their old songs and introduce material from their forthcoming album, which is due this fall. The lead single from the set, "Summertime," has been climbing Billboard's pop and mainstream charts over the past six weeks and is streaming at the group's MySpace page. New Kids, whose members are now in their 30s, appeared together on NBC-TV's "Today" show in April to announce their reunion. They returned to the program last month to give their first public performance together in 15 years. They've since played a couple of radio festivals and performed at Toronto's MuchMusic Video Awards. Bedingfield, one of the UK's biggest pop stars, will get fans warmed up with material from her latest album, "Pocketful of Sunshine," which reached No. 3 on The Billboard 200 in February. The set has spawned the hits "Love Like This" and the title track, and a third single is due this summer. The Grammy-nominated songstress made a huge impression on US fans with her 2005 release, "Unwritten," the title track from which was one of the most played songs on mainstream American radio in 2006, according to her bio. Bedingfield is currently traveling around the US on the Verizon VIP Tour, which also features Kate Voegele and The Veronicas. Being the Gemini minx that she is (she shares a star sign with Anna and Dodai, who were born on the 19th and 3rd, respectively), Diablo, the brunette in the center of this photo, couldn't let such an occasion pass without a truly bitchin' party to mark this momentous date. So she secured the Playboy mansion as the site of her debauchery, declared the evening to be pirate-themed, and erected a bouncy castle in her own honor. Though we could not make it to L.A. to attend the party, we sent a Jezebel mole in our place to snap some pics. SATIRE: NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK FANS VINDICATED Written by Eric Whelchel New Kids on the Block fans, alternately known as either Blockheads or Thirty-something Female Masochists, formally declared vindication today regarding ticket prices for the boy band's upcoming reunion tour. Ever since it was revealed that the band (best known for such classic songs as...uh...uh...never mind that, there's more to a band that the songs they record) would be reuniting, critics, music fans, those with functioning temporal lobes, and cultural observers with a modicum of good taste have questioned the band's motives in reuniting after a blissful nearly 20-year layoff. Yet the band's fans are now having the last laugh, as the reasonable ticket prices for the tour have confounded skeptics and silenced critics who leveled the age-old charge that the Kids "are just in it for the money" and that a reunion tour "would be more pointless than a surf board in Siberia." For the NKOTB tour starting in September, ticket prices range anywhere from $35 for a view near the rafters to upwards of $80 for the best floor seats. Prices which, the vast majority of Blockheads agree, are more than appropriate for a band of NKOTB's stature. "Of all the bands that could described as a footnote on the epic ass of music, NKOTB was the biggest of all!" exclaimed user Iluvjordan in a recent internet posting. "Only between $35 to $80 to see my favorite childhood band at a coldly impersonal, enormous, cavernous arena? Sign me up!" Although the band was rehearsing 20 hours a day to perfect their instrument-less song and dance craft, an announcement via the band's website explained the band's decision to offer such cheap, inexpensive, music-superstar-level prices: "In continuing the NKOTB tradition of honoring its dedicated fans, tickets for this tour have been priced in keeping with rates for other artists of NKOTB's caliber. We used equivalent artists like Tom Waits and Bob Dylan, as well as other reunited bands such as The Stooges, to gauge our market value. The best tickets only cost about $16 per Kid, though Danny might of course get less."0 Kathy McMontgomery, an avid 35 year-old Blockhead from Wheeling, West Virginia who still boasts about her NKOTB ankle tattoo, took a quick break from her work-at-home telemarketing job to express a view shared by many of the band's fans: "All we've heard since the reunion was announced was that the band was doing it just for the money. Let's be clear: the ticket prices for this tour clearly answer that accusation." Husband John McMontgomery, a rare male NKOTB fan who didn't request that his identity be withheld for this report, echoed his wife's sentiments: "An NKOTB reunion comes along, if you're really, really, really lucky, only once in a lifetime. Although you can't really put on a price on that, I think it's fair to say that the prices speak for themselves." The Blockheads also feel that the going rates for the upcoming tour confirm their belief that the band's primary motives in touring are strictly fan-based. "No question these low, low, bargain basement liquidation ticket costs clearly show the Kids are doing the tour for the fans," stated Annie Franzen-Crosby of Kansas City, MO. "With these ridiculously low ticket prices, it's clear the Kids aren't interested in making any profit. This is truly a tour for the fans, just like we also thought." Franzen-Crosby added, a bit less diplomatically, "All those critics who thought the reunion was simply a way for the band to cash in on some people's love of irrelevant, nostalgic, mediocre, disposable kitsch can shove it.
