Boy band becomes men band New Kids on the Block are older, but so are their fans. By Ed Condran

The New Kids on the Block aren't new. They aren't kids, either. But their new album is called "The Block." Yes, the former pinups from Boston are back after a 15‐year hiatus. Fans are flocking to arenas throughout the country to see if the New Kids, who are creeping toward middle age, have the right stuff. Danny Wood recently took time to talk about one of the early boy bands, which will perform Friday at Hartman Arena. Why are you still called New Kids on the Block? It's just the name we're associated with. It would be really foolish to call ourselves something else. The Beach Boys didn't change their name and they are hardly boys. Are the girls still as crazy and desperate as they were for you guys 20 years ago? I would say it's not the same. The girls are older just like we're older. They're responding to the performance as opposed to just screaming at anything like they used to. What's the craziest thing a girl did to get close to you guys during your heyday? I remember in South America, there were girls who were climbing on top of our van, trying to get in. We were in some crazy situations. But when we started this thing again, I said, "Do you think any of these girls will be chasing our bus?" And yes, we're in Montreal and girls are chasing our bus. You guys are the toughest boy band, right? Is that saying much? Are we the toughest boy band? That's ridiculous. We are from Dorchester (a gritty Boston suburb). We got bused to schools in which we were the only white kids. When you say we ... I mean (NKOTB) Donnie (Wahlberg), who has been my friend since the first grade. We didn't grow up rich. But now you are, so why are you back? That goes double for Donnie, who has been doing well in films. Donnie played us a copy of "Click Click Click." He had just finished the movie ("Righteous Kill") with Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro and he was excited about what could happen with our band. Me and Donnie have been friends for so long that I usually follow his lead, and we all got excited about the project. Do you sound contemporary on this tour or are you going to take us back to 1989 sonically? I would say contemporary. We have a live band behind us this time, which is so cool. We do some of the songs a bit differently. We do "The Right Stuff" with more energy. We have more production in it. We play the hits. We'd be foolish not to play the hits and, of course, we do new material as well. There were boy bands before you guys but it felt like you guys were the prototype.

Wichita Eagle Caught Caring: Joey McIntyre and Let’s Get This Foundation There is no denying the devotion of the New Kids On The Block fans: with the fan base once made up primarily of screaming teenage girls when the group gained its popularity in the 90s, the groupies have returned — now as adults — to support the fivesome in their successful comeback. As for NKOTB singer Joey McIntyre, not only is he grateful to have such a dedicated following, but he is also counting on them to lend a hand to his new project — Let’s Get This Foundation. Adding an extra splash to their 2009 Full Service Tour, Joey has launched the foundation in an effort to make a difference, one step at a time. “The Let’s Get This Foundation is about people coming together to learn how, in even the smallest ways, we can make the world a better place,” he writes. While the goal may seem large and unspecific, the logistics are quite simple. “As we are giving back with different endeavors or ’steps,’ we can learn from each other and create a forum for all kinds of ‘good works’ — wherever the passion lies.”

Before us there was the New Edition, who we idolized. Then there were the Jackson 5 and the Osmonds. But the thing is that so many boy bands came out after us. They all seem to follow a formula. They had to have the heartthrob, the young, cute one, the tough guy. You had all these auditions to fill slots for boy bands after us. There were only about eight guys that auditioned for New Kids. It wasn't like there was a plethora of white boys who wanted to sing and dance in a boy band. Back then, that wasn't too cool in 1986. Why weren't you too cool to audition? I was already pretty much there. I was break‐dancing all over the city. I sang in the choir in elementary school. I just picked up where I left off. It wasn't a huge step for me to audition. I did what I had to do and the same applies today.

For now, that passion lies in Step One: The Summer Book Drive. Urging his fans to forgo the teddy bears, flowers and gifts that are often brought to the arenas, Joey instead suggests that concertgoers purchase one (or more!) new children’s book to be dropped off at a designated spot at the venue. After the books are collected by a group of volunteers – fans handpicked by Joey himself — they will be donated to a child in need within 24 hours. “The statistics for age‐appropriate reading material in low‐income families is alarming. In one study, they found that in middle‐income neighborhoods, there are 13 books to every child. In low‐income neighborhoods, it’s one book to every 300 kids! We can help solve that problem!” In order to gift even more books to needy families, Let’s Get This Foundation has partnered with First Book, an online site that has pledged to sell their children’s books for $2. For people who are interested in donating a minimum of $5 — which would yield more than two books — or up to $200, the site allows everyone to get involved.

The donations don’t go unnoticed; Joey has promised each fan who donates at least one book an exclusive code to download his new song “5 Brothers and a Million Sisters,” a special “autobiographical ‘thank‐you’ to the fans.” Once the book has been dropped off at the concert, each person will receive a special coupon code for the free download. For those who choose to donate via First Book, the offer is still valid, with the code displayed on the confirmation page. To date, the book drive has certainly proven successful — Joey shared that almost 5,000 books were collected during the first week alone. Taking to his Twitter account to reveal the good news, the singer tweeted that as of Wednesday, July 1st, over 12,000 books had been donated thus far. “Going for 20 thousand for the tour. I bet we can get 25 K!!! Let’s collect this!!!” Joey is dad to 19‐month‐old Griffin Thomas — who shares his favorite books here — with wife Barrett. – Anya

Hangin' Tough: The Kids may be older, but they've still got the right stuff. by Bianca Phillips I was in the fifth grade when New Kids on the Block performed in Memphis for the first time. It was 1989, and I was living in Jonesboro, Arkansas, a quick hour's drive away from the Bluff City. Several of my friends had tickets to the show at the Mid‐South Coliseum, and I wanted to go so bad. I was the world's biggest New Kids fan. I had a closet filled with day‐glow oversized New Kids T‐shirts, walls covered with Jordan and Jon Knight pinups, stacks of New Kids comic books, a New Kids sleeping bag, and a neon‐orange New Kids lunch box. I even named my goldfish Jordan, Joe, Donnie, Danny, Jon, and Maurice Starr (after their producer). I would have sworn off my favorite pair of pink spandex pants for tickets to that show. I would have canceled my subscription to Bop magazine. I would have burned my beloved Tiffany cassette. I would have done anything for New Kids tickets. But my mom was unable to get them before the show sold out, so all my girlfriends came to school the day after the show wearing souvenir T's and baseball caps, while I slowly died inside. Fast forward 20 years: On Thursday, July 2nd, I will be one of the twenty‐ and thirtysomething women piled into the Mud Island Amphitheatre, screaming my undying love to Joe McIntyre and Donnie Wahlberg. My fifth‐grade dream is finally coming true. When I (and so many other tweens) discovered New Kids on the Block in 1988, the boy band had just released their second album, Hangin' Tough. Their singles "You Got It (the Right Stuff)," "Please Don't Go Girl," "Cover Girl," and the title track "Hangin' Tough" scored big on the Billboard charts. By the end of 1989, the album had gone platinum eight times. But the band's career wasn't all bubblegum pop palaces and crazy 8‐year‐old fans from the start. The original boy band had a bit of a rough road reaching stardom. Maurice Starr held auditions in the early 1980s for a white pop equivalent of New Edition.

He found Wahlberg, who signed up brother Mark, Danny Wood, and brothers Jordan and Jon Knight. Mark quickly dropped out and was eventually replaced by Joe McIntyre. The group's eponymous debut album tanked, but they finally caught a break with Hangin' Tough when the first ingle, "Please Don't Go Girl," hit number 10. By 1990, the New Kids were international superstars, touring the States, Europe, and Asia. In 1991, Forbes named them the highest paid entertainers in show biz, beating out Madonna, Prince, Bill Cosby, and Michael Jackson (may he rest in peace). Back then, I watched their concerts on VHS and listened to "Didn't I (Blow Your Mind This Time)" over and over while making plans to wed McIntyre. His babyface mug graced my walls, and I'm pretty sure I even attempted to make out with his two‐dimensional image in Tiger Beat magazine. But as the New Kids' popularity began to wane in 1992, the kids in my school turned their backs on my beloved Fab Five. Boys started referring to the group by the offensive‐on‐so‐ many‐levels name New Fags on the Rag. But I held my head high and continued to carry my New Kids lunch box well into the seventh grade. The group disbanded after the failure of the 1994 release Face the Music (when shy guy Jon Knight started having anxiety issues), but ever the loyal fan, my junior‐high self displayed my New Kids cassettes proudly alongside my Nirvana and Pearl Jam CDs. Bad‐boy Donnie Wahlberg has led the most successful post‐New Kids career with acting roles in The Sixth Sense, the Saw movies, Annapolis, and Righteous Kill. Heartthrob Jordan Knight went on to release three solo albums, and he appeared on VH1's The Surreal Life in 2004. Danny Wood kept a low profile after leaving the group, but he managed to launch a record label and release a few albums, including his most recent, Coming Home, in 2007. Jon Knight took on a real estate career. Joe McIntyre released some solo albums, performed in Broadway's Wicked, starred on the now‐defunct Fox show Boston Public, and even competed on Dancing with the Stars. The group reunited in 2008 and soon after released their catchy pop single "Summertime," which I proudly downloaded onto my iPod. Now they're touring the U.S., providing me and a million other women a chance to fulfill childhood fantasies. I'm still holding out for McIntyre. Sure, he's married with a toddler now, but things can change. If you hear a crazy lady screaming "Marry me, Joey!" at the Mud Island show, that's probably me.

New Books verses used books... Couple of questions came up about why we are only collecting new books. There are a lot of “gentley used” and “like new books” out there that could certainly be a deserving part of a home book shelf. However, for a book drive like this, we wanted to keep it simple. The turn around for the books being collected and picked up is less than 24 hours. We want to be sure right away that all these books are ready to go and ready to get into the hands of a child that can call it their own. There is something about being the first pair of little hands to open up a beautiful new book. It is special for that child. I think it reinforces the relationship of that child with the book and the amazing journey they are about to share.

We can collect lots of books there!”- 1100 new books, y’all!!! Way to go. And the venue for the show was smaller than some, so technically per capita- St. Louis stepped up BIG TIME! Thank you thank you thank you! I sound like a broken record, but another great show. What a sweet journey we are on. You can smell the nectar, it is that pungent. !!! These volunteers showed how St. Louis does it. We had a great time in your citygot a couple days off to soak it in. Good times!!! Shout out to the City Museum- that place is spectacular. New Kids still inspire giddiness years later WICHITA, Kan. ‐ When the New Kids on the Block were at the apex of their popularity in the early 1990s, I was just a tad too old to appreciate them. I was, after all, in high school and had moved on from embarrassing boy band obsession to even‐more‐ embarrassing hair band obsession. (My maturity did not prevent me, however, from becoming a fan of 'N Sync in my late 20s. But that is a whole other embarrassing story.) Over the past few weeks, though, I've come to sort of regret missing New Kids mania, especially as I've watched excitement over the group's current tour. New Kids on the Block, or NKOTB as they are just as commonly known, is a once‐ popular boy band whose fame was intense but somewhat short‐lived in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The group's hits included danceable ditties such as "You Got It (The Right Stuff") and "Hangin' Tough." At the time, they were five fresh‐faced boys from Boston, and they inspired in preteens of their time the same hyperventilating, tearful devotion that 'N Sync did almost a decade later and that the Jonas Brothers do nearly a decade after that. Now, the band members ‐ Jonathan, Jordan, Joey, Donnie and Danny ‐ are far from kids. Two of them are 40, and the rest are getting close.Their once‐ardent fans also have grown up, but that's not stopping them from rediscovering their inner hysterical preteen selves. They include a mother of four who has already attended several concerts along the reunion tour route and regularly announces her New Kids devotion on her Twitter account.

They include 27‐year‐old Carly Holmes, who giddily stood in line at Wichita, Kan.'s Hartman Arena to buy tickets even though it would have been easier to order them online.And they include Krista Rapp, 33, who credits NKOTB with helping her find her best friend of more than 20 years. Krista was a middle school student when her parents spoiled her with a $100 New Kids on the Block embroidered official tour jacket. She wore it everywhere, including to band class, where she met fellow New Kids devotee Stephanie Kurdi. The two became inseparable, and their parents agreed to drive them to New Kids' concerts all over the region. Krista estimates they went to five or six concerts in their early teen years. They're still best friends. Stephanie (who now lives in Michigan) was maid of honor in Krista's wedding. When they heard about the reunion tour, they knew what they had to do. "It all came flooding back," Krista said. "We were pitifully excited. Embarrassingly excited." In October, Krista flew to Michigan to attend a show with Stephanie. And later this week, Stephanie will board a plane to come to the Wichita show. A funny story from the Michigan concert: The friends stepped into a bar across the street from the venue before the show and quickly realized they were surrounded by women in their 30s, all wearing faded New Kids T‐shirts and 1980s hairstyles. "It's fun to just relive the memories and the friendships," Krista said. "We were so giddy and so goofy."

And I thank. And I thank you! Way to go. Technically, if we are talking about pure numbers, ladies and gentleman, we have a new champion… with 1700 books! This is because there was a girl who drove from Florida with a car load of books! She did her own book drive on the side (which I love cuz it gets more people involved- more people, more books!). She brought a thousand books! (I’ll give a special shout out for this great donation soon). The rest of Memphis brought 700, which is very good considering it was one of the smaller venues for the tour. So that brings the total to 1700! And they take the crown from Chi-Town!!! Chi… you raised the bar like you always do and I know if we had a show there tomorrow you would take back the crown, but this is Memphis’ moment. Maybe it was The King- he knew I went to Graceland and he heard me singing Hound Dog and he just had to make Memphis The Book King! Great town, great people, great concert! I love yas!!!!! Rock star weekend with Incubus, NKOTB and The Roots By Robin Leach

The weekend turnout of rockers and pop stars for concerts and parties throughout the Strip rivaled the UFC 100 bonanza, and our fabulous Vegas DeLuxe contributing photographers managed to keep up with all of them. Rockers Incubus, led by singer Brandon Boyd, performed at The Rogue Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel, where Erik Kabik captured them in action, while at the other end of the music spectrum, the reunited New Kids on the Block had fans screaming for more while Scott Harrison clicked on the antics ‐‐ including a high‐flying Donnie Wahlberg. Scott also juggled his high‐speed schedule and made it out to The M Resort without a speeding ticket to capture the Regeneration Tour with ABC and original lead singer Martin Fry; Missing Persons with original lead singer Dale Bozzi; and Wang Chung original singers Jack Hues and Nick Feldman. Earlier in the wild weekend, Erik Kabik was front row center for Grammy Award‐ winning group The Roots. They rocked the stage at the Hard Rock Hotel, and looking none the worse after a reported hospitalization, Flavor Flav joined them onstage during the encore. Back on the Strip, wife and husband Pat Benatar and Neil Girardo were at the House of Blues in Mandalay Bay. Meantime, members of Incubus hit a VIP table at Body English at the Hard Rock after their concert, and A.J. McLean of the Backstreet Boys partied at Wasted Space. Over at The Playboy Club in the Palms, Donnie, who’s also an actor and film producer, partied with band mate Joe McIntyre. At 2:30 a.m. after celebrating with Ketel One cocktails, they treated guests to a performance of “Single.” My good pal and neighbor Motley Crue frontman Vince Neil was at N9NE Steakhouse in the Palms with his knockout wife Lia. They enjoyed bib lettuce salad and Lobster to the N9NES with Fiji water and iced tea. Across the way was MMA fighter Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in a group of six eating Morty’s lemon chicken with sides of grilled

asparagus and George Maloof’s creamed corn recipe. NBA player Ovinton Mayo and three friends also were in the main dining room. Upstairs in Nove Italiano, Duran Duran enjoyed dinner with an entourage of 18 after their concert at The Pearl. The party, including actor Dave Foley, had the private dining room for executive chef Geno Bernardo’s family‐style Italian dishes with mixed drinks, beer and wine. After dinner, Duran Duran led the group up to The Playboy Club. Frontman Simon LeBon visited his namesake restaurant, Simon, in neighboring Palms Place for a dinner and a lunch with Iron Chef Kerry Simon. Simon LeBon and a friend had lunch at Simon on Saturday. Also at The Playboy Club were MMA fighter Diego Sanchez and six friends and actor and model Greg Vaughan, who also hit Moon before the night ended. At Rain for DJ AM Fridays, celebrity guest DJ Benji Madden rocked the house. Dressed in a T‐shirt and jeans, he sipped on Ketel One cocktails while behind the wheels of steel.

Joey McIntyre to Be a Dad Again There's going to be another new kid on the block: Joey McIntyre tells PEOPLE that his wife Barrett is expecting their second child – a boy – in December. "I still can't get over it," says the singer, 36, who also has 20‐month‐old son Griffin. "We feel so blessed." So far baby no. 2 has already managed to throw his parents for a loop. "My wife actually took the [pregnancy] test but she thought it was negative," says McIntyre. "She came out and gave me this look like, 'No.' Then she showed me the test and I said 'It's positive! What the hell?'" Then when the proud parents, who were convinced they were having a girl, found out they were adding another boy to the brood. "We were shocked," says McIntyre, who had his daughter's name picked out. But they're hardly disappointed. "It's going to be a trip to have a couple of boys around." Griffin is more than ready for his new brother, says McIntyre, who grew up the youngest of nine kids. Along with constantly kissing his mommy's belly, "We say to him all the time, 'Do you want us to bring home a baby?'" Griffin's response? "Please!" The toddler has also inspired Daddy to start a book drive through the Let's Get This Foundation. While on the road, McIntyre and the rest of the New Kids have collected thousands of new children's books and distributed them to children in need in various cities.

"My wife is an avid reader and from the get‐go she sat down with him and read with him. You see the importance of that," says McIntyre, who also reads to Griffin some of his favorites like Good Night, Gorilla. "Then I found out there's a lack of age‐ appropriate books for kids, I saw a huge void and I knew our fans could step up." McIntyre hopes to reach 25,000 children by the time the guys wrap up their tour on July 18. But the big question remains: Will his family grow to include nine kids? "I think we have a deal to keep going until we have a girl," says McIntyre with a laugh. "That's what my wife says."

The Not‐So‐New Kids On The Block By Linda Leesman Last year's New Kids on the Block return to the spotlight wasn't necessarily just a flash in the pan reunion: The five boys (now men) from Boston released a new album (The Block), a couple of hit singles ("Summertime" and "Single," the latter featuring Ne‐Yo) and, now, are back on their second nationwide tour. Maybe it helps that they have a new, aged look. Two of the five Kids— Jonathan Knight and Danny Wood—just turned 40; Donnie Wahlberg, meanwhile, is just a few months from that milestone, and the other two, Joey McIntyre and Jordan Knight, aren't far behind. So how did NKOTB bide the time between disbanding in 1994 and last year's reunion? Where do they go when adolescent girls decided they no longer had "The Right Stuff"? The answers, in descending order of desirability: 1. Jonathan Knight fared well as a real‐estate developer in Essex, Massachusetts. The Southern Essex District Registry of Deeds lists multiple sales in excess of $1 million in which Knight acted as grantor. In other words, Knight doesn't have to sell bubblegum pop in order to make a mint. 2. Like his brother Mark, Donnie Wahlberg has channeled his talents toward acting. Among his film credits are Ransom, The Sixth Sense and Saw II, III and IV. This experience puts Wahlberg in elbow‐brushing proximity to Mel Gibson, Bruce Willis and a lot of screaming teenagers—a natural transition from the NKOTB days. 3. In 1999, younger Knight brother Jordan embarked on a solo career, with moderate success. His eponymous debut album garnered decent reviews, strong sales and an MTV Video Music Award

nomination. His follow‐up albums failed to do as well, however, including the nostalgic, completely un‐ironic Jordan Knight Performs New Kids on the Block: The Remix Album. 4. Joey McIntyre has cultivated his theatrical side, playing a witch's love interest in Broadway's Wicked in 2004. One year later, he was the fourth contestant eliminated on Dancing With the Stars. The former boy band dancer was out‐hoofed by actor John O'Hurley and model Kelly Monaco, with whom McIntyre was not, ahem, "Hangin' Tough." 5. Danny Wood appeared on the MTV UK series Totally Boyband. The show attempted to create a new band, called Upper Street, out of has‐been former boy‐band members. But Wood was the biggest celebrity in the lineup. Not surprisingly, Upper Street's first and only single, appropriately titled "The One," tanked dismally in England and never charted in the States.

Concert Review: New Kids On The Block bring 'Full Service' in music and dance to Irvine LA Music Examiner

The New Kids On The Block (NKOTB) brought their "Full Service" tour to The Verizon Amphitheater in Irvine on Friday night. Opening the show were Jabbawockeez and teen sensation Jesse Mc Cartney. Jabbawockeez, a seven person dance group that won the first season of the MTV show "America's Best Dance Crew". They sported their trademark kabuki style white , fedoras and performed a 20 minute combination of mime and hip hop in a medley of songs. Jesse McCartney was up next and sang for 35 minutes. He got a great crowd reception with excellent vocals and stage presence backed by a live band and two backup singers/dancers. NKOTB took the stage at 9:00 p.m. The crowd went wild with screams the second the lights went down and were on their feet the entire two hour set. It was a sea of camera flashes and home made signs with some creative fans even using them to spell out ddub soldiers, the nickname of band member Donnie Wahlberg's Official Twitter Page group. Before NKOTB came on stage, a video montage of childhood photos and footage from the career played on a video screen above the stage. The round stage platform opened and the band appeared in suits opening with the song "Full Service" from their current album "The Block". They played a mix of new songs and past hits such as "My Favorite Girl" and "You Got It (The Right Stuff)". A definite highlight was the terrifically choreographed dance moves that were impressive from start to finish. NKOTB are pros at entertaining a crowd, and after years of honing their

craft, they are even better than ever. The energy on display from all five members was truly impressive and showed that they were happy to be on stage together again. Half way through the show the guys performed their song "Single" from the middle of the theater at the sound board, giving fans in the lodge area a nice surprise. Donnie Wahlberg then took the lead on "Cover Girl" proving that he is a definite crowd pleaser and entertainer. Jon Knight and Danny Wood kept the vocal harmonies and dance routines in step which included Wood break dancing at the end of "No More Games". Jordan Knight and Joe McIntyre who both released solo albums each performed a solo spot during the show. Knight, did his hit single" Give It To You, backed by surprise openers The Jabbawockez. McIntyre dressed in 80 attire broke into the band's song "Popsicle" from their debut album. He then performed on the grand piano a new song "5 Bros And A Million Sisters". NKOTB saved their two biggest hits, "Step By Step" and "Hangin' Tough" for the encore closing out a stellar live show performance as their reunion tour which was first announced in May 08 wraps up this month.

The New Kids on the Block “Full Service” tour kicked off in Atlanta on May 28th. After taking them up the East Coast to Boston and across the country to California, the tour finishes in Houston on July 18. The concerts are receiving rave reviews for the group and for Nocturne Productions’ video. The Boston Herald felt compelled to comment on the “high‐tech graphic displays.” Sean McCann of the Poughkeepsie Journal called the New Kids on the Block “Full Service” tour, “The best concert I’ve ever seen.” One reason he sites was the staging. “We’ve got a brand‐new stage,” New Kid Joey McIntyre told the Pittsburgh Tribune Review, “really exciting video elements and a whole new look, which is really cool.” “This is one of the more elaborate shows I have done with Nocturne,” says Nocturne engineer on the tour, John McLeish. “It takes about three to three and a half hours to set up the video. Then it takes about one hour and forty‐five minutes to tear it down and put it on truck.” That video set‐up is an integral part of the stage design by Butch Allen, with technical input from Nocturne to help him bring his vision on the road. The videos include seven 30 foot high by 5 foot wide V‐Brite columns, used mostly for accents like flames, flashing colors and swirling patterns. A 3 foot high by 38 foot wide V‐Lite truss screen over a semi‐circular 7.5 foot high by 38 foot wide V‐Lite truss screen feature both video accents and elements from the main Barco D7‐ 15 foot by 21 foot central video screen. The Barco screen is used for live video elements, shot by the crew on three Panasonic cameras, two with a long lens, and one operated from the photo pit. There is also a small Sony CCD camera on the stage for POV shots. This video goes through a Panasonic AV‐HS400A switcher. The V‐Brite and VLite screens were manufactured by Nocturne in conjunction with LSI‐Saco. “The easiest part of our set up is the VLite LED,” McLeish says. “It’s newer technology and weighs almost five times less than the Barco D7 we are using. The Saco products are so easy to work with, they make setup and tear‐down stressless.” The Nocturne crew of McLeish, director David Davidian, and LED/Cam Ops Barrie Roney and Josh Marrano lend their extensive professional experience to the set up, tear‐down, and actual production of the show. Nocturne Productions leads the way in Live Event Video Production. Danny on the Block Danny Wood looks like the “Buff Dad on the Block” as he is seen leaving the beach with two of his kids as the rain begins to fall over South Beach Miami. Fresh off the New Kids On The Block Summer Tour super‐dad Danny Wood looks like he is cast from iron and comes as no surprise because Danny is a fitness guru! He tried to make the most of the weather as he and two of his children hoped for the best when they hit the beach but it began to rain shortly after and they made a dash for cover. Always the nice guy, Danny just smiled as it rained down and surely came up with a better plan for the rest of the day. Danny is currently recording a new album for the charity, Komen For The Cure a foundation that is dedicated to the cure, research, and prevention of Breast Cancer. A cause close to Danny’s heart as his mother Betty a victim of breast cancer, sadly passed away nearly a decade ago. Since then Danny has tirelessly raised money, given his time, and dedicated his life to the cause (www.rememberbetty.org). It’s also worth mentioning Danny Wood is one of the nicest guys anyone could ever meet. He is a class‐act for sure!

Joe Mac End of Tour Blog Family As most all of you know, I have been blessed to have my family come along for this amazing journey. I would not have been able to miss my son at this special time in his life‐ his first steps, his first words and on and on. My wife was a Rock Star through it all. It is no joke raising a little baby on the road, but she handle it with style and grace. In the end it was all worth it. We felt there was no substitution for being together. And Griffin loved every minute‐ from helping the caterers to idolizing the Jabbawockeez. What amazing memories we will have forever to look back on. Family is the great chill pill on the road, the great equalizer, the humanizer. It was such a blessing to see the other guys with their kids. Danny’s girl were so sweet and would not let you walk by them without giving you a hug‐ even if they saw you, literally, 20 seconds earlier. Donnie’s son Elijah became a kind of life coach in our dressing room before the show‐ asking honest disarming questions with his dad’s charm. After all he got Jon Knight to sing Step 5‐ the Holy Grail of pop music. After Jon sang Step 5 one night on the summer tour, Elijah was ready to try it himself. A touching scene when Jon and Jordan and Elijah went over to the “warm up” keyboard just before show time to practice singing “Don’t you know the time has arrived!?” I caught it all out of the corner of my eye and could feel the easy love of the whole thing. Kids break you down to your purest simplest way. And we all naturally reached out to them when they were out on the road. It is now common knowledge that Elijah nailed Step 5 and is now a seasoned pro with the mic. The apple sho nuf doesn’t fall far from the tree. Jordan said on the cruise that he would want his son to play him in a movie. Wise choice‐ Dante is as cool as his dad and a natural on the piano. (We got a little taste of his skills in the dressing room when we were in New England). Through it all, we are a family. 5 brothers and a million sisters. We laugh, we cry, we play…I argue with everyone‐ USED TO argue with everyone… It still isn’t time to write the history of this group. There’s too much love in the tank and we got places to go and people to meet. Where, how, and when, we will eventually know. Whatever it is, we will be held together by the fabric weaved together by our prents years and years ago. A quilt that grows and grows‐ so dazzling, so spectacular, the likes of which the world has never scene. Let’s watch this! ‐jm

Danny’s End of Tour Blog! Hi everyone, First off I want to thank everyone for the past year and a half. What a ride!! It has gone beyond anything I ever dreamed would happen. My kids got to see their Dad on stage, Wow!!!, simply unbelievable Walking off stage and having my youngest daughter say “It’s so cool you’re my Dad” says everything. I also want to thank everyone for their tireless work with NKOTB’s fight against breast cancer. This year will mark !0 years since my mother past away. For me it’s a celebrating and a tribute to the woman she was and the angel she is shining down on us. I will continue this fight moving forward with the Komen Foundation. Thank you to Lynn Hughes, Carrie Glasscock, Jared Paul, Dave Brown, Janelle Lopez, Jared Siegel, Gary, Ute, and Allen at Bravado, and all of the Team Betty’s out there. I am forever grateful.
