Flowers of Mysore
Flowers in any place, of any colour, by any form, whether small or big, adds vibrancy and dynamism to the place and the living beings. It is very easy to get inspired by flowers and difficult to put down any flower without any inspiration. This is my fourth book on flowers and the fifth one on flora and fauna. This book tries to unravel the flowers, the author found in a 314-acre gated residential township in Mysore.

Flowers of Mysore
THIS BOOK After spending about fifteen plus years in a gated community in Eastern part of India enjoying full six seasons each year, especially the spring with extraordinary blooms of flowers, found Mysore spring and blooms were rather subdued and not so vigorous. I told myself, “how can you blame nature, you need to look for blooms and active spring in Mysore”. There started my journey of discovering flowers in any plant in my gated residential township in Note Mudran Nagar, Mysore. This project started in May 5, 2021 and completed my last snap of the flower May 15, 2022. I started taking photographs and videos of the flowers and the plants on which they were found. To keep project going I posted my videos in Instagram (https://www.instagram.c 3

om/nkrishnaswamy/?hl= en) on almost daily basis and recording my notes once the discovery of flower was completed. This work has been enthused by the comments and likes I received in the social media and occasional and irregular help and assistance by various friends. Some of whom are Mahendra Kumar - Gardener, Rvaichandran - Gardener, Arjun Ramanuja, Jagannath P, Prem Kumar Manohar, Dr. Vijay Daniel, Akhilesh Reddy, Vineeth P. Nair, S. Prabhukumar, and many other random people. This project had to complete one full year, as different plants bloom at different periods of the year, though the majority of the bloom was found during spring. Due to physical constraints especially due to the height and not able to reach I have not photographed the flowers 4

of Neem, Jackfruit, Simul, Mango, Champa, Kadamaba, Golden Cyprus, Devadaru, Bamboo and other plants. I have tried to be as reasonable as possible in providing a complete catalogue of flowers I found in the township. I believe this can be used as a starting point for cataloguing the plant cover in the township, with a view to maintain its diversity and nurture it. I also hope that this book may inspire enthusiasts of nature, flowers, colours, photography, ecology and environment. The text has three components – Name of the Plant, Other Names and Description of the Flower, All the photographs were taken by the author using his OnePlus 8T (Model KB2001) mobile phone camera. I thank my parents, my family and friends, who are my motivators in this book taking shape. 5
