2014 Overview



Legislative Victories Northern Kentucky Consensus Committee Funding options were approved to allow Kentucky Community & Technical College System to build priority projects throughout the system. Two items on the Northern Kentucky Consensus Committee list of recommendations can be built using this expansion: The Gateway Urban Campus and Jefferson Community and Technical College Carrollton Campus.

Northern Kentucky University was authorized funding to build the Health Innovations Center. With healthcare on the horizon as the next major challenge our nation faces, NKU is building a state of the art facility to train the workforce of tomorrow.

Riverfront Commons was awarded dollars to continue development. As an 11.5 mile walking/ biking path that runs along the Ohio River, Riverfront Commons will provide residents with a valuable quality of life option

Transportation Northern Kentucky received continued funding for a number of projects throughout the region. Of particular note are KY-536 and KY Route 9.

The development of KY-536 will provide a much needed east-west connector through the southern parts of Boone, Kenton, and Campbell counties.

KY Route 9 will be developed along the Licking River and across the Ohio Riverfront through Newport. The new access route will drive development in the Urban Core.

Cyber Security This legislation requires state and local government to protect business and citizen data. It also establishes a protocol for notifying appropriate parties if data are compromised.


Angel Investor Tax Credit The angel investor tax credit program will be expanded to include to help start-up companies, like UpTech portfolio companies, develop, grow, and prosper in the Commonwealth.

Childcare Assistance Program (CCAP) The Childcare Assistance Program provides aid to parents who are either attending school or working. The assistance supports those working to climb the career ladder while ensuring kids are receiving appropriate childcare.

Opportunities in 2015 Expanded Gaming Legislation would allow Kentucky citizens to vote on expanding gaming in the Commonwealth. This would save millions of Kentucky dollars from being spent in neighboring states while bolstering state revenues.

Public-Private Partnerships (P3) P3 legislation would authorize state and local governments to contract with the private business sector for a range of options. This encourages private investment, competition, saves tax dollars, and promotes transparency in government spending. All of Kentucky’s bordering states utilize P3.


Medical Review Panels Medical Review Panels play a critical part in lowering costs to the healthcare system. By implementing a review process for cases against healthcare providers, the number of meritless lawsuits would be limited. This would result directly in stabilizing the medical system and make it more attractive to employers.
