10th Dies Natalis at Chateau Kamnik
NL Chamber was established on 18 January 2012 and the tenth anniversary of that fact was celebrated with a 21-dish Indonesian rice table at winery Chateau Kamnik, Skopje.
Since 2016 the NL Chamber anniversary has been a unique experience with a specially crafted menu - with dishes unknown to most of our members - in a warm, cosy atmosphere. For NL Chamber’s Chef Paul Houthuijzen and Nicole Schönbeck, the tenth Dies Natalis celebration meant a challenge to exceed all pre vious achievements, both in richness of the dishes as well as the number of servings.
five people, three days Paul and Nicole spent three days in the kitchens of winery Chateau Kamnik to prepare no less than 21 dishes to compose a full Indonesian rice table for a record number of guests. They got supported by two Dutch
friends visiting Skopje as well as Sara Trajkovska, student at the gastronomy high school. unique piece of art
To such a jubilee also belongs an appropriate present and preferably as unique as the event itself. NL Chamber’s president Olgica Naumovska proposed to have a local artist create a bicycle of silverplated wire.

The 10 years of NL Chamber history were captured in a co lourful 76-page book, also pro viding an overview of all current 64 members. The first copy of the book and the bicy cle were presented to ambassador Dirk Jan Klop.

The gastronomic team behind NL Chamber’s 10th Dies Natalis
Although NL Chamber’s birth day is on 18 January, last year’s Dies Natalis celebration was postponed to summer due to the pandemic. That inspired us to also move the celebration of the tenth anniversary to the summer season, creating the possibility to have an outdoor event.
change of scenery
However, June is known for heavy rainfall - and exactly that was predicted for the date of the celebration! The tents caused a change of the scenery, but in the end the weather was mild without any of the ex pected thunderstorms.
special guests
Various people who played a role in the early days of the chamber were present as well, like honorary member Wim Westen, co-initiator Adriaan van der Flier, former board member Marta Naumovska

network of friends
For several members the chamber also means a net work of friends: tips and tricks, some good advice, experience and inspiration, but above all pleasant conversations and a good laugh. In this spirit Thijs Zomer and Jan Zwiers, the entrepreneurs behind natural stone importer NG and microinvestment fund Microdonia, regularly arrange for new in troductions. Both had become close friends with Zoran Roso manov, owner of printing house Bato & Divajn. After Zoran passed away in Novem ber 2020, Thijs and Jan kept in touch with his family and now was the time to introduce his

marriage postponed Thijs and Jan also brought their long-term touristic services provider in Ohrid, Lale Tours to the celebration. Christiaan Basoski took over the business from his father Dimitri and as Thijs revealed, Christiaan and his fiancé Elisabeth Torn post poned their marriage (i.e. the signing at the municipality) with one day to be able to at tend the Dies Natalis!
walk-in
The practice at the Dies Natalis is to use the walk-in for making new connections during a welcome drink and leave the sea ting arrangements develop spontaneously. The pictures on these pages proof the lively conversations at every table.Elisabeth and Christiaan, Lale Tours

King’s Day in Bardovci
Since his arrival in summer 2019, this was the first time for ambassador Dirk Jan Kop to host a King’s Day reception, which took place in the sunny garden of the Dutch residency in the village of Bardovci. Amongst the guests were also the Macedonian managers of Dutch-owned companies.

Schengen to require travel authorisation non-EU citizens
The EU is to implement the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) by November 2023. Travel Authorisations will be charged 7 EUR.

the application for manual processing. Carriers (airlines, couch and shipping compa nies) will deny boarding to passengers without a travel authorisation, while travellers with other means of transport will also be able to apply for an authorisation at kiosks at the borders.
ETIAS is expected to become operational by November 2023 and authorisations will be charged 7 EUR. An authorisa tion remains valid for three years or until the expiry date of the passport.
Up to three years prison for reckless driving
The Macedonian government proposed changes to article 403 of the Criminal Code that classify certain traffic viola tions as crimes. The proposed changes provide for sentences from fines to up to three years of prison for driving under in fluence of 1.5 promille alcohol,
speeding with at least 70 km/h above the speed limit and other violations that are to be considered “reckless driving”. The proposed changes follow the example of Croatia from 2011 and are expected to come into effect by the end of this year.

Where the construction fini shed during the pandemic, the Dutch plant tissue laboratory Iribov was forced to postpone the official opening ceremony. More than a year after the al most 300 employees started operations in the new building, the opening was officially cele brated on 28 May 2022.
20 million plants
With the new state-of-the-art transfer rooms and culture rooms, Iribov produces 20 mil lion vegetable plants per year through in-vitro cultivation.
The laboratory in Vinica was es tablished in 2001 and that fact would lead to the establishment of another Dutch-owned com pany, Geerlofs Frigotehnika in Kocani. Like two decades be fore, Geerlofs built the culture rooms.

short Building of the Year
The housing project Sluishuis in the newly developed Amster dam neighbourhood IJburg has won the Residential Building of the Year 2022 award. The complex of 442 apartments was designed by Barcode Ar chitects from Rotterdam and BIG from Copenhagen. The design is based on a clas sical courtyard building revitalized by two transformations. Towards the urban district the block steps down like a cascade of landscaped terraces, creating a natural transition from cityscape to smallerscale, natural surroundings. At the IJ lake side, the block opens up to let the water take part in the courtyard.
Plant-based plastic
Dutch Avantium started the construction of the world’s first commercial factory for FDCA (furandicarboxylic acid) at
Chemical Park Delfzijl. FDCA is one of the components for 100% plant-based and re cyclable plastic material PEF (polyethylene furanoate). Avantium, established in 2000 as a spin-off of Shell, has de veloped the technology to con vert plant-based sugar into FDCA and has already proven the potential of PEF as both an alternative for PET bottles and as yarn for textiles. Recently LVMH signed for a fixed volume of PEF for perfume and cosmetics packaging
