SPOTLIGHT ON FANTASY FASHION
Fantasy Fashion is a cherished tradition at NLCS, that has taken place annually for well over 20 years.
During lunchtimes, students immerse themselves in crafting innovative designs before unveiling them on the catwalk of our packed Performing Arts Centre. Prizes are then awarded in a number of categories and previous judges have included Stella McCartney, Meenal Jethi, and Dr. Julie Brixey-Williams.
This event is a real highlight in the NLCS calendar and also serves as a fundraiser for the Karenni people, courtesy of a charitable initiative spearheaded by Fantasy Fashion's founder and ONL, Stephanie Lee.
SPOTLIGHT ON VEX ROBOTICS
Vex Robotics is incredibly popular across the Senior School. The club allows students to apply their knowledge of Physics, Computer Science and Engineering, Design and Technology.
Students have also taken part in a number of VEX Robotics competitions across the UK and we have even hosted our very own at NLCS!
VEX Robotics Competitions offer students the opportunity to design, build, and program robots to compete in exciting and challenging events, putting a real emphasis on teamwork, problem-solving and creativity.
SPOTLIGHT ON SPORTS
Our approach to sports promotes inclusive excellence, urging students to try a plethora of sports to enhance both their physical and mental wellbeing.
18 sports are offered at NLCS which all students have the opportunity to explore including: Lacrosse, Netball, Tennis, Swimming, Badminton, Football, Gymnastics, Cricket, Skiing, Dance, Rounders, Water Polo, and Athletics.
We have a huge array of squads where students compete against schools across the UK. Recent successes include reaching the final of the Independent Schools Netball Cup, being crowned U19 Division 2 Champions in Lacrosse, podium finishes in the 2024 British Schoolgirls’ Ski Races and our U13 Gymnastics squad have qualified for the National Finals taking place in February.
Spanning across our 30-acre site, our extensive playing fields and sports facilities provide an ideal environment for sporting excellence to thrive at Canons.
SPOTLIGHT ON DRAMA
Drama at NLCS is truly special. With our incredible Performing Arts Centre, you can often be mistaken for being in the West End and are spoilt for choice with the huge range of shows on offer.
From our full scale musicals and plays to more intimate shows such as our drama studio productions and musical theatre evenings there really is something for everyone.
Beyond the spotlight, our students have the opportunity to learn how it all works behind the scenes. Through our Theatre Tech club, students delve into the intricacies of theatrical craftsmanship, mastering the art of lighting design and operation, set construction, and sound design.
SPOTLIGHT ON MUSIC
Approximately 500 instrumental lessons are taught each week by over 25 visiting specialists
Students are encouraged to participate in numerous activities including choirs, such as our Chandos Singers, orchestras, bands and jazz ensembles.
Similar to the robust Drama provision, students have opportunities aplenty to showcase their talents through performances. Each year, we host whole-school concerts and also engage in performances at esteemed venues across London. Additionally, tailored instrument ensemble concerts and opportunities to showcase contemporary pieces at events like NLCS sessions enrich the musical landscape of the school.
SPOTLIGHT ON MODEL UNITED NATIONS
Model United Nations (MUN) continues to increase in popularity year on year. In recent years students have travelled to MUN conferences all over the country and also as far afield as New York as they took part in the ‘Change the World Model United Nations conference’. At NLCS we have also welcomed a number of local schools for partnership MUN events.
We are also proud that NLCS offers ‘Mini-MUN’ conferences run by our students. Designed for our own Junior School, local partnership schools, and primary schools in London, these events provide invaluable opportunities for students to refine their public speaking and debating skills from an early age. We take immense pride in nurturing the next generation of diplomats and change-makers.
