THE MIDDLE SCHOOL PLAY: 16 and 17 November 2016 at 7.00pm in the Performing Arts Centre
THE TROJAN WOMEN The Trojan Women (Gr: Troäde) is a tragedy by the ancient Greek playwright Euripides. It was first presented at the City of Dionysia 415 BCE, along with two other unconnected tragedies Alexandros and Palamedes, and the comedic satyr play Sisyphos, all of which have since been lost to antiquity. It follows the fates of Hecuba, Andromache, Cassandra and the other women of Troy after their city has been sacked, their husbands killed, and their remaining families about to be taken away as slaves. It runs parallel to the events in Euripides’ play Hecuba and as such this production will merge elements from both plays. This middle school performance will combine the largest ever cast, with a visually stunning backdrop to explore key themes of grief, revenge and the futile nature of war. The Trojan Women is often considered one of Euripides’ greatest works, and among the best anti-war plays ever written. ORIGINAL DANCE WORK BY SENIOR GIRLS: 14 December 2016 at 7.30pm in the Performing Arts Centre
OUR WORLD This popular annual event will draw on stories from across the world to provide inspiration for original work. DRAMA THE YEAR 10 SUMMER PRODUCTION: 28 and 29 June 2017 at 7.30pm in the Drama Studio
CHATROOM Enda Walsh’s 2005 play was met with great critical acclaim. The teenage characters communicate only via the internet. Conversations range in subject from Britney Spears to Willy Wonka to death. One character is depressed and talks of ending his life. From this chilling premise is forged a funny, compelling and uplifting play that tackles the issues of teenage life head-on and with great understanding. THE YEAR 11 PRODUCTION: Sunday 2 July 2017 at 5pm in the Drama Studio
LUTON AIRPORT Mirroring the rehearsal routines of Shakespeare’s actors, students from Year 11 will have only one full rehearsal to prepare this new play written by Deborah Gibbs, Director of Drama. This exciting event continues to raise money for KSDP a charity set up in memory of ONL, Stephanie Lee. Organised by The Art Society, the evening promises to be as vibrant and enjoyable as ever. KSDP works with the Karenni people, providing basic needs and education in the smallest and poorest of the ethnic minority states in Burma. Around 23,000 Karenni people reside in camps in Mae Hong Son province. Some of these people have lived in camps for over 17 years; there are children who have never seen the outside world. The refugees are confined to the camp and they are not allowed to work, so they rely on support from humanitarian organizations. The charity fashion show, which is now in its 19th Year, involves girls of all ages who design, make and model an array of highly imaginative costumes.
