The Year of the Tiger YJ Yo It is believed that people who were born in the year of the tiger possess the strengths of a tiger. Not everyone knows that each year represents a certain animal. The animal of the year is determined by the Chinese zodiac, consisting of twelve animals. According to this zodiac, 2022 is the year of the tiger, following 2010, 1998, and 1986. In celebration of the year of the tiger, I want to introduce five athletes who were born in the year of the tiger that have and will continue to make outstanding achievements.
Nelly Korda, who is a well-known professional golfer, was born on July 28, 1998. She plays in the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association), winning seven times in total. Korda also played in the 2021 Solheim Cup and 2019 Solheim Cup, making great achievements. Not only that, she won the Olympic gold medal at the women’s individual golf event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Japan as well! She currently ranks No. 1 with an average point of 9.75 and a total point of 448.67 in the Women’s World Golf Rankings. She is a beloved golfer around the world, with a fierce swing that reminds the audience of the power of a tiger.

Joannie Rochette, who was a successful figure skater but now a skilled doctor, was born on January 13, 1986. She was the 2004 Grand Prix Final bronze medalist, the 2008 and 2009 Four Continents silver medalist, and the 2009 World silver medalist. Despite the sudden death of her mother, Rochette came third and received the bronze medal in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics with Mao Asada in second place and Yuna Kim in first. In 2013, Joannie Rochette retired and decided to work as a doctor, starting with being a spokesperson for the “iheartmom” campaign and in 2020 earning her medical degree, announcing that she would be working in Quebec during the COVID-19 pandemic. Even though Joannie Rochette is now a calm and skilled doctor who helps her patients fight diseases, many people still remember the tiger that used to skate through the cold ice.

Olympic Mascot Jay Jun In a world-renowned sports festival that only happens once in 4 years, countries carefully scrutinize and select a mascot that effectively represents the country and where they are headed in the near future. After reading this article, you will be able to realize the cute mascots and the reason behind every single detail ranging from the overall silhouette of the figure to the slightest touches on their hands. Let’s start with the most familiar Character for Koreans and people who have been living in Korea for a couple of years. This is “호돌이", the main mascot of the 1988 Olympics that was held in Korea. At that moment, a small and relatively weak country like Korea opening a massive festival of sports was simply unprecedented. After the Olympics were officially announced, Korea went into business. Every department in the government started to take action faster than ever. They changed parks, constructed massive shopping centers and arenas, reconstructed numerous highway roads, accelerated the production of technology: cell phones, early development of robots, etc. Now, you guys might be asking why are all these “extra components” necessary for a festival that compares the athletic abilities of players?
Let us dig in deeper. What actually happens in a country when it hosts the Olympic games 1. Foreigners come to visit the countr 2. Media reporters come to broadcast events to their own country

3. Olympians from all over the world come to experience the countr
The main idea is that the Olympics is a chance to promote a country’s culture effectively. Every action taken to improve Korea’s status was ultimately to give a better impression to countries that were not familiar to Korea yet, or the countries that thought Korea was a ‘developing country.’ These exact philosophies are implied when designing the specifications of a mascot. On the top left-hand corner, we see “호돌이”, which is a tiger with a traditional Korean hat on his head. From the overall build of the mascot, we, as viewers can safely assume that Korea is trying to promote their famous animal and traditional culture. Now, let’s see if the Beijing winter Olympics mascots also have those attributes and if they do, find out the meaning behind the cute, chubby panda.
This is “Bing Dwen Dwen (冰墩墩)”, the mascot of Beijing Winter Olympics 2022, taking place only a month after the publishing date of this article. This year’s mascot is a panda wearing a translucent armor. From the video officially promoting the character, we, as the audience can assume that the bodysuit is the symbol of advancing technology of China and the multicolored rainbow layers of membrane represent unification from people around the world. Finally, The video also has the Panda giving a High-Five to an astronaut in space, implying the development of the Chinese space technology.
With the sudden rise of COVID patients in certain areas of China, people are still wondering if the Olympics will be able to take place. If it does happen, let us enjoy the show that Bing Dwen Dwen (冰墩墩) will present us with

“Football is just like my partner. A good friend. That’s what it is. Shabell: Sharon Yoon & Bella Ki Interview with Jian Yeo,Y8 In NLCS Jeju, there are many student superstars who are talented in so many ways. They express themselves through academics, art and even sports. This interview is about our own special star football player, Jian Yeo in Y8. From 2014 when she first set foot on the NLCS Jeju campus, until 2022, where she stands as a capable and influential football player, Jian has always been on the field as one of our star players. Sadly, she has decided to leave the school this upcoming term. Therefore, we decided to interview her to share her brilliant sports career and her precious memories she made in NLCS Jeju.
Q. When did you start playing sports and what inspired you to play sports A. I played sports from Year 4 when I first joined the NLCS football squad in Junior school. Football was the only sport I played and it was what encouraged me to try and play other sports. Playing football made me realize the joy sport provides and motivated me to try athletics and even enter competitions such as FOBISIA. I entered competitions with multiple sports such as swimming, but football was what made me realize the significance of playing these sports.

Q. Were there any challenges you faced while playing football
A. Just as most sports players would, I had minor muscle cramps which caused pain after big tournaments such as KISAC, when we are all very nervous and spending a lot of energy. However, I had to overcome the pain to become stronger and compete as who I am now. The challenges had become a strong solid part of myself.
Q. What is your life like now in 2022 A. As I enjoy football very much, if I don’t play sports for a long period of time, I feel like a big part of me has disappeared and feel empty. Football excites me every day -- especially now when I only have one opportunity a week to play football during CCAs, it makes me look forward to Wednesday: the only day I play football.
Q. What does sport mean to you A. Sport is just my partner, a good friend. Even when I become older, I really want to and will continue to play football. Also, I think sport is a very crucial element that cannot be separated from me and my life. It’s a lifelong friend, and it helped me grow into who I am now.

Q.Now that you are leaving NLCS, do you have any comments for the school? A. I have so much to say… I lived more than half of my life here in NLCS Jeju. The school has always, always been a part of my life. It has been a big chunk of who I am. NLCS is a part of my life
Jian has not only been a big part of the sports community in NLCS Jeju but also the school itself. She first started her sports career here and is now one of the team members who’ve been in this school for the longest. 7 years! That sure is a long time, and Jian has been our energizer, spreading not only her positive energy but also influencing other pupils to fight their limitations when playing certain sports. Thank you, Jian, and we wish you the best of luck in your future

Australian Open: Rafael Nadal reaches the Final aiming to win his 21 major tournamen William Shinwoo Ki Rafael Nadal, whose pain has worsened since the French Open in June last year, rested the entire season and returned to this year's Australian Open. This Australian Open is an important tournament for Nadal as he won the Australian Open only once in 2009. The public expects Nadal to win the Australian Open to achieve a "Double career Grand Slam" and become the 21st major winner of men's tennis, over Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic
Nadal faced Matteo Berrettini in the semifinals of the men's singles at the Australian Open on the 28th. Nadal's forehand penetrated Veritini's weakness, the backhand, and Nadal took the lead throughout the game.Veritini's first serve game caught the first and the second set. He gave the

third set up to Berrettini due to lack of stamina, but he broke one game in the fourth set and the game ended in two hours and 55 minutes. The set score was 3-1 (6-3 6-2 3-6 6-3)
During the interview, Nadal once said “Overall, it’s a particularly exciting success for me, perhaps more exciting than a victory, than a grand slam title, because of how unexpected it was, because of everything we’ve been through in recent months.” Currently, he is the fourth oldest man in the Open era to reach the Australian Open. Nadal also recorded 9 wins and 0 losses in 2022 after winning the warm-up tournament in Melbourne. According to Guardian, Nadal said his spirit of competition is in "personal DNA" and his goal is to win, but over the past few months he has also taken things differently. He decided to enjoy the progress he has made because simply being able to play tennis is a bigger priority than winning. In addition, he added “At the end of the day, and being very honest, for me is much more important to have the chance to play tennis than win the 21, no? Because that makes me more happy in terms of general life, to be able to do the thing that I like to do more than achieving another grand slam.
Medvedev, whom Nadal will meet in the final, advanced to the finals by beating Stefanos Tsitsipas 3-1 in the semifinals. The two will play at 5:30 pm. on January 30. It is likely to be a key point of today’s Australian Open to see if Nadal will be able to take a good opportunity and win the title of the most major championship

How does exercising affect our body JY Lee Exercising affects our body in many different ways. We are told that the best way to maintain a healthy lifestyle is to exercise. What would be some specific benefits of regular exercise

5. It can improve your mental health and mood. During exercise, your body releases chemicals that can improve your mood and make you feel more relaxed which helps you deal with stress and reduce depression
6. It helps your thinking, learning, and judgment skills get sharper. Exercise stimulates your body to release proteins and other chemicals that improve the structure and function of your brain
7. It strengthens your bones and muscles. Regular exercise can help teenagers build strong bones. This can slow down the loss of bone density that comes with age. Doing muscle-strengthening activities can help you increase or maintain your muscle mass and strength
8. It improves your sleep. Exercise can help you to fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. It also increases your quality of sleep which allows you to feel fewer symptoms of being tired or being weary.
