This busy term is by no means over!Taking a moment to look at what has been achieved by the remarkable girls who call Halla East their home, I am in awe of the endless list of accomplishments, the diversity of talent and the variety of activities or experiences they have had.All this whilst balancing a commitment to excellence with regard to their academic studies.Yr12’s experiencing the first taste of balancing their time and testing themselves under timed conditions duringAnnuals and theYr13’s getting serious about their final preparations and setting themselves up for the real IB Exams.
Halla East has had moments of high tension at times this half-term facing the reality of grades is never easy, making life decisions about next steps with parents and the UGC team is challenging and living through 3 weeks of examinations requires a stead-fast approach and resilience. I am happy to say each year group has done well.
Let’s hope the results bring what is deserved!
MessagefromtheHomeCommittee
As the Home Captain of Halla East Boarding Home, I have been entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the well-being of our community.Throughout the year, I have encountered numerous situations that tested not only my leadership skills but also my resilience in the face of adversity.
One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned this year is the importance of adaptability. Whether it is adjusting to unexpected changes or finding creative solutions to unplanned challenges, our ability to adapt has been essential to our success.
Also, it’s been incredibly inspiring to witness the strength and tenacity of all the students. As we reflect on the achievements of the past year, I hope that each and everyone of us can take pride in our resilience and risk-taking mindset. I believe that together, we’ve proven that we have the power to overcome obstacles and achieve our goals, no matter what challenges lie in our path.

Malaysia CAS Trip
Two of our year 12 girls, Jiwon and Ji-Min, headed to Malaysia for their CAS trip right after annual exams from 05/01 - 05/07! It was their first time visiting Malaysia and they had such memorable experience there. They were engaged as part of the local community, preserving the environment through planting mangrove trees, beach cleaning and much more.
They also had opportunities to enjoy various extreme activities such as water rafting, caving, kayaking and snorkeling!
Although the climate was quite hot and humid to endure, the girls say that this experience will never be forgotten and they truly appreciated the wonderful memories made in the exotic place!

Halla East Makeover projects - “2nd floor study space”
Exciting news! Our beloved 2nd-floor study space is getting a makeover!
Before After
The Halla East staff team and home committee has been hard at work, pouring their creativity and passion into transforming the study space into a cozy room for you all. Think soft lighting, comfy cushions, and maybe even a touch of greenery to brighten up those study sessions. Just needs final finishing touches. We believe that a welcoming environment can make all the difference when it comes to productivity and well-being.

- “Outside restoration CAS Project”
Before BBQ Grill building in progress…
Another exciting news is that our Year 12s are on a mission to spruce up our outdoor space as their CAS project for IB. They've already started building a BBQ grill, and there's plenty more in the works!
Stay tuned for updates as our outdoor oasis takes shape. Let's give a big shoutout to Tony Kim, Tristien Crebier and Kyran Coughlan for making Halla East even better!
Year 12’s will have a final BBQ evening to enjoy this space before the summer holiday.

This is Ms. Shin from South Korea. This is my 5th year teaching key stage 3 and 4 Geography. I have experiences of working as an assistant boarding mistress in both sixth form and senior boarding homes. I majored in a liberal art programme called ‘EastAsian History’in University ofTokyo. I had a chance to study Geography, Environmental Science, Japanese along with EastAsian History. My passion lies on Human Geography, especially population and disparities. I do love to read around this field in my free time. I am looking forward to working in Halla East with both the home team and the girls.

Hello! I am Ms Lindsay Lee from Ontario, Canada. I started teaching at NLCS Jeju in 2019. I have previously taught in the Geography but now I am teaching in the Biology and ESS. I studied my Bachelor of Science in Geography at Western University (Go Mustangs!) and then moved to Ottawa University for my Bachelor and Masters of Education. I love Jeju. I love the nature and unlimited number of coffee shops that it brings. Community service is my passion and I strongly believe in giving back to the community. I hope we can participate in some community projects together. I am so excited to go back into boarding next year and I hope that we can go on adventures and enjoy Jeju together. I love Jeju. I love going on drives around the island and sitting by the beach but also exploring the amazing Olleh trails. But most importantly, I love that it introduced me to my beloved and beautiful dog, Oreum.
