History is a dynamic, contested evidence based discipline that involves an exciting engagement withthepast.Itisarigorousintellectualdiscipline,focusedaroundkeyhistoricalconceptssuchas change, causation and significance Year 10 students will be beginning the first year of the CIE IGCSE History Course, but will learn much more than just how to do amazingly well in their examinations!
The NLCS Jeju Year 10 and 11 History programme is therefore ambitious in its aim to provide a robust foundation for our students in the academic discipline of History However, it also recognisesthatthenarrativeofthepast,withitswonderfulcharactersandcolourfuladventures,is crucial in engaging young minds It isalsoimportantthatstudentsdolearnʻwhathappenedʼ(by whichitismeantthecurrentmainstreamconsensusamonghistoriansaboutatimeandplace)as there is great social and cultural value in this. The content of our pre Diploma Critical Thinking course is grounded in real worldglobalissues, suchastheUNSustainableDevelopmentGoals,humanrightsandcurrentaffairs.Firstly,students will be introduced to a range of practical strategies that will help them inquire and question effectively, for example the question formulation technique as taught by Harvard University.
